Mysticus C*
I'm slightly confused with all the redirected links. I clicked here we go and then downloaded the file off rapidshare. which is the right set if instructions? the guide shows another way of fixing bootloader problem when install dvd doesnt make bootloader... for example ToH RC2? or some early versions of various osx DVDs... for this guide to work, you need 3 things + an osx install dvd that can boot... (iatkos r3 for example) + a usb flash drive + the script file that you will download from the guide how to do it? + place the files you download on to a usb drive + note down the usb drives partition name or just rename its name from windows to a USB or flash or whatever name you like (do not make spaces in the name) for ease of remembering (as like in windows, you can name a disk or partition a name, and make sure you note it down, so you can type it correctly when you want to navigate to the usb folder) + place the usb flash drive on one of your usb ports (in case you have usb mounting problem) + place the osx dvd, and boot as if you are gonna install... + when it comes to install screen + check the top menu + go to utilities / terminal + in terminal window, type following; cd /Volumes/USB_Partition_Name/postscript (USB_Partition_Name is the name of USB's name as exactly you named it in windows (as you would see in windows) + once you navigated to folder above, type following; ./patch.sh osx_partition (osx_partition is the name of your Mac volume, as I suggested you to name osx1 or osx2 if you remember so it would look like; ./patch.sh osx1 + than follow the instructions on the screen... clear enough? when you try, can you report the results? (like if you are able to boot without dvd help? or not?) but easier way to do it just boot from r3 dvd, and choose only efi or darwin bootloader whichever you like and choose nothing else... it does the same thing, for your hdd it most likely will not fix it, but worth the try with this script as well... If i find one that works 100% I will let you know. suggestion for you, if you put a nic card that will work out of the box with iatkos, this means it will have trouble later... you need to find a new one which should have official osx drivers released after november... at earliest date... bcoz leopard released around that dates... remember it should be a new one or should have latest osx (leo) drivers from manufacturers web site and should mentione to work on Leo!!!! zonker
after reading, I take it there are no Wired Ethernet cards that are fully working yet? Look at the card in my sig. Worked great out of the box. My other problems are my own fault (I had iATKOSr3 working great before with the updates but I did something to mess it up) and I am trying to figure them out. It happened when I updated my bios. I'm sure it's a bios setting I'm overlooking but I have not seen a clear post on what the recommended bios settings are for nForce chipsets to work. remember it should be a new one or should have latest osx (leo) drivers from manufacturers web site and should mentione to work on Leo!!!! zonker
After reading replies to other problems, I realized that what I did was eliminate the bootloader from both partitions somehow by restoring but reformatted and attempted reinstall before you posted to just reinstall the bootloader only. If I can just keep the IDE DVD awake long enough, I'll be back in business. I'm going to try reburning the DVD tonight on the G4 to see if that is the issue. Maybe it was a lucky, one use only burn. But that doesn't explaing why I can still boot it up (the DVD) unless a bad burn is why it takes so long to validate the installer pkg. It installed in about 8 minutes the first time but now seems to take that long just to validate the package. Easkay
@easkay: if you can try on another hdd, make sure it is different brand/model... if possible try a friend's hdd so you can first check it before going to buy one... so you dont waste money... @mysticus I have a 12gb disk I could try. In the script I downloaded, there was no postscript file, I will try patching, along with the 12gb disk. Mysticus C*
@zonker: validation can takes up to 10 mins on some people's (for example DvP's) machine I can confirm this! but once it validates it installs very quick, this is due to dvd drive and/or DVD-R media quality and/or drivers issue... but it works after 10 mins! wait and see... for the bios: edit: acpi "sleep" state = "s3" or "s1 & s3" c1e power state = disabled speedstep = disabled hpet = doesnt matter execute disable bit = enabled @waldfee: dont make a statement like it works, just make your suggestion, people try and see the results themselves, it may or may not work depending on the type of the problem... let people with this problem try and see if it works... @easkay: I dont know the details of the patch sorry... first try installing iatkos r3 on the other hdd, then later u can try the patch thingy if iatkos still doesnt work... but you may need a sata hdd as well... just in case on your mobo pata doesnt work well... i can also send you netkas's efi bootloader as well to see if it will make any difference with a guide I will prepare... good luck... Thanks for all your hard work, I've just finished installing it on the other hd and i'll give you a heads up shortly. Like I said earlier, I don't have a spare sata disk, so it's either pata or usb. I'm getting a caddy sometime next week. It would be good if i could have that bootloader and a guide with it. I've just tried, and no luck. It only boots with dvd. I also tried the script and it said permission denied when I tried to run it Looks like it's the dvd or grub in the near future. durro
@durro: if you can just give me correct questions like how this works, without saying it doesnt work, i would direct you correctly, but you say, things are not working, when they are actually working, and for bios order, since it works on your system as one hdd, like i said, you are doing bios order for boot is wrong on your mobo, and you keep saying it is correct when it is not actually... it looked like easkay had same problem to me, but found that it is a unique one that happens with some HDDs... so your problem was bios order and I m most definetely sure about it, bcoz you can boot from hdd without dvd, where as easkay cannot, which indicates different problem... so first check your boot order preferences and fix it first... than you can use all your other hdds, and make sure you use the correct hdd in the boot order, and make a fresh partitioning and install, and at first boot check volume icon if it exist or not, bcoz if it doesnt exist it means sound is not recognized, then you can use stereo driver on my update installer, but if sound works out of the box, do not install any sound driver as it will cause conflict! which you made me do it to your system... and it is the green jack on the back of the pc which should work for speakers or headphones... do not hope to expect inputs like mic or line in with on board... good luck.... I had to use the same fix as him i accidently left the dvd in and it worked and then worked there after... I'm not trying to {censored} you off or anything but that is the only difference i made between the installations (i did try using the boot menu in the bios which is the same as selecting the boot order in the bios) Just putting that out there I have also seen on youtube people saying to keep the disk in and let it do it's own thing. You may wish to add this into you'r guide for ppl who cant get it working the normal way. However everything else you are probably right... Thanks for all your help. codingmonkey
@codemonkey: security updates usually works fine, but time to time, there can be trouble ones like time machine fix recently which involved new kernel... and major updates like 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3 will be not possible straigh away... you need patches... you can do security updates, but first watch the first page of the forum first, so you can see if there are any concerns regarding them ok? Thanks Mysticus!! Your 10.5.2 guide worked beautifully, I've updated successfully! So I guess I'll have to make sure that items that I update do not change the kernel right? How do I know if an update is going to modify the kernel? Anyway, I'll make sure to keep an eye on the first page, your FAQ is very good. Hmm I can't seem to find XCode though.... (for the errorsearch without overclocking in the moment) i would suggest you to try appleviaata patch, and see if it helps using/installing big programs, if it doesnt help try memory (RAM) trick... maxmem=2048 for example... @rohizzle: I dont know deadbeef error, and search function is not working right now... so cant tell... @codingmonkey: xcode on some systems may cause some troubles, so try it on your own risk @durro and easykay: I will make a small guide with all the files in it, for installing new bootloader and activating your partition... to see if it will help or not... for both of you, I guess it is pata controller problem? if you are giving me correct information... i ve seen this same problem with someone else, as pata hdd didnt work at all, although everything was done correctly, original bootloader refuses to load... and on this case, i asked the guy to use sata, and it worked, and i know it doesnt make sense, but somehow osx bootloaders refuses to load on certain controllers and/or hdds... I will make this guide for you two to be my test guys, if you promise to do it exactly as I say it and do not make your own assumptions and change anything while doing it... if you do your own changes during applying the guide, it will make everything changed and you will give me wrong information, so please follow the guide when it is done pls... I will make the guide to test two bootloaders... darwin, and netkas's efi bootloader v8... to see if it will make any difference... I doubt it will fix anything... but worth the try... I will PM the files and guide later today (i m busy right now with something else and going out soon). I will not post the guide here unless it is confirmed working, bcoz some of you think this bootloader guide fixes all boot problems, it doesnt! a guide that has been posted here before was for certain dvds where the dvd doesnt install the bootloader, where as iatkos r3 installs the bootloader fine... if you understand what i mean... the intention of the guide i will PM you is to see if different efi bootloader will help or not... bcoz iatkos has different efi bootloader than netkas's versions... so will see if it will work or not... so there is no guarantee... @special note to everyone: As I always say, sometimes the best way to install osx is to invest a little money (on an intel chipset...) intel chipsets have better support for osx as original macs are on intel chipsets, just search the forum and find the specs of mobos that are claimed to be perfect install (and bear in mind that there is no perfect as well apart from macs which osx is designed for, even original macs have troubles as well ) and choose one that suits your needs, I know it is a little expensive, but in the long run it definetely worth it...
