HiFi
well, i just got my hands on a copy of this baby, mounted the .dmg on a G4 mac, double-clicked "optional installs" and it says "BETA software" in the EULA...wasn't this supposed to be final? HiFi
it's the "It's unpatched so don't bother trying to install it." release... munky
wonder where it came from then, if not a retail iMac... surely the retail package wont have the Beta warning? DeathChill
It's most definitely from a retail iMac. Probably just forgot to change the BETA stuff. sigxcpu
They said that the 10.4.4 disc is a restore disk and we have an install disk as far as i can see, so maybe this one is beta. what is the difference between install disk and restore disk in mac world? HiFi
we got restore discs when we bought our G4s some time ago...with OS 9.2 on it, those discs could be used as installation discs too...later we bought 10.3 boxed, wich was an actual installation disc... i guess the only difference is that a restore disc comes with your new mac and the installation disc can be purchased without a computer... munky
would apple really be so stupid as to 'forget' to remove Beta warnings from a retail package? xiberia
well, it does say that.... surely an oversight? the version on that cd (at least, the one I downloaded) is 10.4.4 8G1165. Interestingly, the EULA for installing the OS says: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ APPLE COMPUTER, INC. SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR MAC OS X Single Use License for use on Apple-labeled Systems PLEASE READ THIS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT ("LICENSE") CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE APPLE SOFTWARE. BY USING THE APPLE SOFTWARE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE, DO NOT USE THE SOFTWARE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE LICENSE, YOU MAY RETURN THE APPLE SOFTWARE TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT FOR A REFUND. IF THE APPLE SOFTWARE WAS ACCESSED ELECTRONICALLY, CLICK "DISAGREE/DECLINE". FOR APPLE SOFTWARE INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE OF HARDWARE, YOU MUST RETURN THE ENTIRE HARDWARE/SOFTWARE PACKAGE IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A REFUND. The rights granted herein are limited blah blah etc etc on and on ---------------------------------------------------------------- so it looks like they just forgot to update the ones in the other packages. no biggie, if you buy an iMac its already installed so you wouldn't notice anyway. R. Bear Helms
The restore disk (2 Layer) boots on a Mac Mini, but will not install. Kernel panic, no driver for a PowerMac10.1. I'm pretty well convinced the bootloader is an EFI reliant Intel specific boot. The contents of the DVD can be browsed and run under my current OS X. However, the installer for bundled software will test my environment and tell me it isn't meant for my machine. Mr. Bond
IMO, that seems like to big of an oversite for a company like Apple to look over. Still, I guess you can't really question the validity of the image, if people have started working on getting results out of it.
