That way you know where in the startup it fails. Second, from what I've gathered, vanilla kernel will not run with a Pentium D chip. Use the hacked kernel and see where it gets you. Post with your results, of course! @nkear5, did your sleep/shutdown/restart always work, or was this after you installed smbios and/or 10.5.2 update? @mcgoo, just out of curiosity, have you tried overclocking your e4600? I've gotten to 3.0GHz easily with 250mhz FSB with stock cooling, but I'm waiting to go higher until I get my new heatsink/fan. Okasha
Your guide is really helping me, since I have a P35-DS4 motherboard. Have been working to get it all run smoothly yesterday the whole afternoon and now I got my dualboot running, thanks to you guys! I now have two major troubles. 1) In the MS dual boot menu, I can only use the keyboard when it is connected by the PS2 adapter in the PS2 port. After that, I have to plug it in the USB port again, otherwise it won't work in leopard. SO, every time I boot, I have to switch it 2) My leopard won't shut down itself. It hangs every time I want to close it. This means that I am unable to decently install drivers because when I reboot, no serious changes have been made. Live messenger keeps installed, the updates worked, but for instance firefox, I have to install that every reboot. How can I see what is causing this? shurabas
Its sad that no one fixed the 4 SATA port problem yet I was hoping that it will be fixed soon but I guess not. In my case, when AHCI is enabled, i boot faster in all of my OSes (XP, Leo, Ubuntu) .. If im on IDE, my XP boots extremely slow! Hoping for a fix soon! nkear5
This was all working fine until today. I plugged my e-sata nic into my computer. As soon as I did this I was greeted with a kernel panic stating (Unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI"). Seeing this I panicked myself, and removed the e-sata port. But the problem still remained. Now the only way to boot into OS X is with the -f flag. It is bearable for now, but some assistance into fixing this would be great, thanks for any help and a great tutorial. Edit: Nevermind, I managed to fix it with a backup of AppleACPIPlatform.kext that came with the Kalyway Combo Update, followed by a reinstallation of the netkas 9.2 kernel. I know I could, but I have a stock cooler and don't want to mess with it right now. It's fast enough for me. I have OC before. Took a 1.8 GHz AMD 64 to 2.4 before. mistwolf
Gigabyte P35-DS3L, Core 2 Duo 8200, 2 GB RAM, Gigabyte 8800 GT video. SATA hard drive, IDE DVD burner. Everything works flawlessly following this guide. No troubles with networking, no troubles with having an ATAPI optical drive and a SATA hard drive. Audio works great with my 2.1 speakers, graphics work great with the latest NVInject that supports the 8800 GTs. Updated to 10.5.2 per the guide given, no problem at all; I mucked it up the first time by not noticing my sudo password was typod, so it was trying to remove the file when it couldn't, which screwed the isntall. Started fresh, made sure my credentials were right, went through without a hitch. Very happy! Those parts of the program use the built in sensors of a Mac, use the Temperature Monitor program it will show your cpu and hard drive temps. I was just reiterating a previous post. I have devised a workaround, which was to make a permanent -f boot flag in com.apple.boot.plist. newbmac
A few audio suggestions: 1) Could you please specify if the Microphone works for each of the audio patches? 2) Could you also please list for each if it is 2.1 or 5.1 out? 3) Also, if digital-in and out works via coax/optical? Thanks and awesome guide! mtotho
@newbmac, took your suggestion, unfortunately i only know about the DS3L and P5W DH, if anyone wants to give me other info, please tell. also, you have to understand, Real Macs do use 5.1 Audio via the digital out. The digital out on these hacks work as they should.. they dont do 5.1 sound unless playing a supported codec with dolby digital surround. Like watching movie or DVD would trigger the switch. Other wise it mainly plays out of the center channel, or all channels. When not watching a movie, i just turn my digital to stereo.. and sub woofer works too. If enough analog ports worked for 5.1 sound, there is a way to set it up in midi sound manager, but i dont know what kind of applications it would even let u use it for. That's helpful regarding the mic and optical/coax outputs thanks! I am starting to put together my build list over the next few weeks. I am debating the Gigabyte board versus the Asus. the Gigabyte is half the price and seems like it requires less patching, though the Asus works with AHCI... I looked and didn't see Microphone mentioned? Does the Mic-in work on both those boards? What do you think, Asus or Gigabyte board?
