Tiranofice
Hi there everyone, i am really trying to create my own movies. I already saw some great movies like Final Fantasy VII: advent children and Transformers where 3d is a really important part of the movie. Now, my intention is to create a movie on my own, completely in 3d. I don't care how much time it will take to learn and to make it, i am really motivated and have plenty of time (i am a teacher of music). however, i don't know where to start. I figured this out: since i have a mac, i will be learning final cut studio express to do the montage and stuff like that. I might use final cut to add Special Effects, or Adobe After Effects, i don't know which one is best. But SFX is low prority, i want to make a pretty basic movie first, and then grow and grow to make a decent one. I already have scripts and drawings of what characters might look like. Also, i want to make something more or less realistic. I mean, i don't care whether you are able to see of it is made by computer or not, i just want to make it comfortable to view, very realistic 3d and stuff. to show what my criteria of "realistic" are, i found this pic of Devil May Cry 4, which is perfect in design. It doesn't need to be that realistic, but i want to be sure the program i am working with has enough potential in it to do stuff like this: I already said i am a beginner in 3d, but i am not a Noob. I started my 3d adventure with Google SketchUp, i mastered that one in a week or two. Than i moved on to Blender. I also learned a lot there, but it wasn't what i wanted, it was too basic. It was like ms paint, sure, you can create fantastic things, but it is damn difficult to create things decent on your own. Then finally, i found the Holy Grail: 3d MAX. I went through all the tutorials that came with it and also did some from tutorialized. I loved it, it was photo realistic. It took time to create things, but i didn't mind. too bad that doesn't exist on mac. So basically i want some 3d prog capable of what 3d max is capable of. equal (minor or less) in realism and (maybe better) in animating. i thought of maya, but i wasn't sure it would be good? any recommendations. Lostgame
Maya is certainly your best option. Shake will also assist you greatly in 3D effects. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/80417-3d-with-mac-for-a-movie/#findComment-572053 Share on other sites

Synaesthesia
Maya is awesome, and Cinema 4d, but I for one really like Modo 301. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/80417-3d-with-mac-for-a-movie/#findComment-572426 Share on other sites
A.I.Ghost
Dont forget about Lightwave3D as it is fully supported universal binary now. And it cost's much less than Maya/Max/Cinema. Tiranofice
after reading all your replys, i think i will go with maya. Since it is from the same developer as studio 3d max, which i loved. for adding effects i still don't know what i will buy: after effects or shake. also, i don't see where final cut could come in handy? i create with maya and do the montage with shake or after effects?
