Trying to build a system that works great requires a lot of digging around. Let's try to simplify things here.

The idea is to make this as simple as possible. Build a box, boot and install from a DVD, and you have a perfectly running hackintosh that can install any new updates without worry.

If you have a PERFECT install (vanila, efi, etc) without any fuss (i.e. using just the install DVD) please post here:

1. What disc you used. iAtkos, Kalliway, etc.

2. List of hardware

Thanks for your input

Ill start of with my setup.

i used Kalyways 10.5.1 dvd, i used both the vanilla kernals, with the right settings in BIOS it gives perfect sleep/wake, reboot and shutdown.

together with a loose alc889a patch, not much fuzz

mobo: Gigabyte P35 DS3P

CPU: e6750 unclocked.

GPU: asus geforce 7300GS ({censored}, but it works out of the box!)

2 Sata drives, 1 Sata HDD.

Working very well.

I am pretty new to osX86, and have tried various installs on different machines with varying degrees of failure, and a whole lot of dashed hopes and frustration.(WOW! it actually booted! AWWW crashed:( ) If we need to find a very specific hardware configuration with a specific install that should work, shouldn't we just be buying macs? (The people at apple seem to have come up with a hardware config that works)

Excuse me for seeming jaded, but these topics keep showing up year after year & never do any good..

1: this is what the wiki is for..

2: there is no such thing as a perfect easy install, due to the endless possible permutations of hardware.

3: people say "mine is 100% perfect" & then it turns out that it lacks audio input, or ps/2 keyboard compatibility, or some other minor issue.

Certainly from time to time classic setups arise, but with the speed of change in the PC industry, such specs are very ephemeral. Also people's requirements are different, and what works for one person may be mysteriously stubborn for another due to something as minor as an incremental difference in graphics card firmware.

whatever you list here, please make sure it is entered into the wiki, which has more long-term value as a repository of working components.

I've had perfect installs with ToH, iATKOS, and Kalyway. Kalyway is by far the best performer though, because for some reason it boots up in 1/5th the time as the others.

Core 2 E6850

GA-P35-DS3P

GeForce 8800 GTS

WD Raptor 150 HD (SATA)

LiteOn DVD Burner (SATA)

Kalyway hangs at 1 minute left, iAtkos installed perfect and running quite well (says i have a mac pro)

My Kalyway install did that too! All I did was only Install the base system and EFI + Vanilla Kernel. Do not install Audio, Video, or Ethernet. Try that and see if that works, it worked for me.

I didn't think to do that, thanks alot it worked

Perfect Install here.

1) Disc: Kalyway Leopard 10.5.1

2) System Specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2Ghz FSB 800mhz

Motherboard: ASUS P5GC-MX (i945G/GZ Chipset)

RAM: 2GB DDR2

Graphics: ASUS EN7300GS 256Mb PCI-e

Sound: Realtek ALC883 5.1 + USB Logitech Headset

HDD: 250GB IDE HDD + 80GB SATA HDD

Everything works perfectly, Installed Kalyway with the following options:

Vanilla Kernel (And the ACPI one thingy), Bootloader EFI for GUID, NVinject for Desktop and HDA_ALC883 Sound Driver. Only thing that doesn't work is the motherboard's Gigabit LAN, but I'm using a PCI Realtek network card in it's place. No big deal.
