Proud Bajan
i happen to get iATKOS install on my dell inspiron 6400 with only one issue and that was the sound, but i patched it with the applehda patcher v1.20 and its popping right now. only one problem i have with the iATKOS release and thats the graphics issue, i see many delays from the cursor in firefox, looks like i have 2 mice connected lol, but all is running fine for me. just the darwin bootloader with no efi and flagged the partition to boot with my ubuntu live cd and whoooo hooooooooo i just hope they come with an update to fix this graphic issue. oh yea, the wireless dont work either, i dont really care cause i dont use wireless. bofors
i just hope they come with an update to fix this graphic issue. While iATKOS does a great job in offering a selection of graphics "drivers" in there customization options, it is ultimately the responsibility of OSx86 users to get their unique hardware configurations running. S.SubZero
I can't believe how many people are bitching about this. I mean, in my opinion, not only was this tastefully done but it is a total non-issue. Meh, for me if I want to show someone I run OS X I would want to show them that exact window, and having it different than the original makes it too h4x0ry. The silver lining is that I spent some time googling, got the original TIF file, and I got the stock image and text back. I learned something new! Boot Camp
Meh, for me if I want to show someone I run OS X I would want to show them that exact window, and having it different than the original makes it too h4x0ry. You got that right. Isn't the point of OSx86 to try and run Leopard just as close to the original as possible? That window bugged the heck out of me. BlueAvenue
If you mean that it says it is going to restart, then counts on down and gets to 0 and does not restart, that's ok. Just push your reset button to manually restart. If the install was ok, it should boot up for you. That's been my experience with a lot of these hack distros. Zoot Allures
Hi all, I spent the whole thursday night trying to get iAtkos install booting. I mean, the DVD launch OK on my AHCI DVD but EFI Boot script fails, even with manual install of Netkas EFI v.8, no dice, the Leopard installation refuse to boot, nothing happens. I dont know what in my hardware clashes with it : - tried to put the SATA controller on IDE - tried to put it back on AHCI (just like my Win XP runs) - with or without the Disable Bit - with GUID or MBR partition I reinstalled the Xxx 10.4.11 that installs EFI, the OS etc. It was OK, boots, works fluently. I tried to overwrite this with iAtkos v.1.0i, again, no dice. Kalyway went OK, straight out of the burner. If only it wasn't so "customised" (all these orange icons, orange backgrounds etc.). Only no sounds, had to install two kexts found around here. Reboots nice, didn't try sleep mode though cause it usually mess the display at wake up... Congratulations and many thanks to the Kalyway and iAtkos (anyway). kamikaze
Thing to change to make Kalyway perfect 1. remove all these ugly look and feel customizations (especially the orange color, dude you have no taste). 2. add the R1000 driver 3. add the Silicon Image 3232 driver Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77308-uphuck-or-kalyway/page/2/#findComment-547996 Share on other sites
tincus
My vote is for Kalyway, all working OK with GUID partition EFI and vanilla kernel. iATKOS freezes at startup (when asks for .mac account). Anyway thanks both. The only thing: orange background WTF!!! hehehehe. kaworu nagisa
im waiting for something like JaS 10.4.8 - that was best one. both versions that comes from uphuck and kalyway are too much different than original osx and theres still some programs avaible only by rosetta (no-ip ie.) and guys just bin ppc code... and other case - languages; 10.5 is the first version after some years avaible again in polish language... pity that i must install language after whole system. im planing of course to try both versions and choose as major os better one. Ferr
I used the Kalyway DVD. I would have tried the iAtkos DVD, but it took so long to download that I had already burnt and installed Kalyway. Had no problems apart from having to run the EFI again after install (thought I would). Just followed the instructions from BJ Moose on one of the other Kalyway threads. Sound was not working, so I downloaded the kext found on this site for my ALC888. I used Candybar to reset all of the icons back to default. It's shareware, but comes with a fourteen day trial. More than enough for me! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77308-uphuck-or-kalyway/page/2/#findComment-548512 Share on other sites
SticMAC™
I decided to test both NEW installs on my Dell Dimension 9200 and did Kayway first, without going into too much details (cause there are'nt any!) everything installed. I had to add my soundcard sigmatel 9227, my Wireless USB from Netopia and i was up and running! This included running in RAID mode. NO PROBLEM! I must add to read the instructions during the setup screens during boot up! Then it was Iatkos's turn.... firstly had to switch my raid off, so I had to disable my main drive in order not to wipe it! The boot setup went through with normal speed, i read the instructions, as the setup did NOT include making the drive bootable! It had a seperate Terminal application to do this!? This is where the mess started, if you do a diskutil list you will see your drive, mine as it had my main drive(disk0) included, was disk1, BUT you have to GUESS as the question was which HDD?!!!! If you didn't know GUID made more than one partition, HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO KNOW ITS PARTITION 2!!!!! After this mess the installation continued, but the DVD seemed to be stuck on a point for a long time without showing ANYTHING on the progrees bar (4 min 23sec) the first time i thought it wwas stuch so i rebooted then the second time, then just as I was going to reboot it, it continued! I do understand that this is because the image file is compressed? but why try and save 2GB if you are going to cut a 4,7GB DVD!? I really thought the idea of the DVD was to help those that don't know as much as others(us, we, the inner circle) but this is a real mess if you are a normal(noobi) user! You be the judge...... Iatkos, or Kalyway...... SticMAN ps do Kalyway last then you are done and don't have to redo everything!!
