Did you boot from DVD ?

Here are the steps I followed to fix the bootloader:

1 - Boot from DVD

2 - Type -s at prompt

3 - fdisk -e /dev/rdiskX

- f X

- update

- w

- q

4 - cd /usr/standalone/i386

5 - dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsX bs=512 count=1

6 - ./startupfiletool -v /dev/rdiskXsX ./boot

And it works ...

Tanx zephyroth...It's a bit diffrent...gonna report...E

Edit: I did boot from dvd...

EDIT 2: dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsX bs=512 count=1...still don't have permissions...Is the problem maybe in the master drive...dvd rom is set to slave and the drive is master

Hi Puttabong,

Just wondering, I have installed OSX using Rev 1 but I had a problem with NVDAResman so I got rid, I was getting a panic.I put in NVinject instead and its booting up to where you put in your name details etc etc. But it is freezing on where it is "Creating account" screen. The mouse is doing the coloured spiral and the little "loading" thing is going around but then stops.

Any ideas??

I have an AMD 3500+

MSI K8N Diamond

1GB Ram

2 SATA HDD's

1 IDE DVD-Rom

@CyberSoft: No I removed the GeForce.kext and still getting stuck on the "Creating Account" screen.

If I boot into Ubuntu I can see that the account names that I created are in the Users folder so it seems to be creating them but just not allowing me to get onto the desktop.

Anyone else have this problem or any ideas/solutions???

Hy yall!

I'm installing the Zephyroth Leopard but I'm stuck in the same problem as always.

I tried Tiger and another Leopard version but when I try to format my particion (active with MBR) with disk utility it says "preparing to erase" for a long time (maybe hours) and nothing but an error, if it shows an error.

I think that the problem is my motherboard with nforce5 (I think it's not supported yet).

My config is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200

Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe

nVIDIA nForce 590 SLI

2048 MB DDR2-800

GeForce 8600GT

250GB SATA II (c:\Windows Vista; d:\Programs; e:\Personal Files; f:\"Leopard" (raw and activated whenever I try to install Leopard)

If this is the problem, Is there any "easy to understand tutorial" explaining how to put the nforce5 kext found at the wikidot site into my dvd?

Thanks for the help!

ps.: applyed yesterday for an account at kbot.de. How long does it usually take to be accepted there? =)

A couple of tips:

"Creating User Account" stall:

1: two or three screens earlier, choose "I DON'T have an internet connection" - even if you DO.

2: If you've already tried an install once, it may help to re-partition the drive, rather than just erase & re-install, OR try a re-install over the top of the prior install.

(My experiences: This stall seems to come from an unsupported, or partially supported LAN card. The initial start screens will try for an internet connection and/or to see if there's a user account already in place from a prior install.

If you're not sure your LAN adapter is 100% compatible and working, DISABLE IT! and tell OSX you don't have any internet connection! That will probably get you past "Creating User Account" and you can re-enable or load drivers once you get OSX booted.

I also got the stall a few times with a known good LAN adapter, but when I tried to just "erase" my primary Mac partition and had a second (or third) data partition that I had left intact. (I had a 2nd HFS partition that I'd copied .kexts and Installers onto for "ease of installation"...)

It seemed to work better for me to use a seperate drive, and to completely re-partition the drive in the event of a failed install and a re-install attempt. I have no clue why... Please note that I've nearly always used at least 2 HFS partitions in most of my install attempts.

Just how many install attempts?

Probably close to 50 - on 5 or 6 different motherboards. I have 2 nice, stable, working Zephyroth installs at this time.

Unfortunately, most of the AMD MB's I have lying around use the 8201 PHY Lan chip. Some have had success using it - I haven't - just frustration! I now disable the 8201 and add a cheap Realtek 8139 or 8169 PCI LAN adapter. The proper LAN adapter seems to account for a disproportionate amount of either grief or joy...

Since I've learned that, I NOW usually bust my installs AFTER I get to the desktop (trying to install proper sound & video drivers!)

I also am able to boot th dvd into the install screen, and every attempt i have tried in disk utitlity, wether erase, partition, raid, all end up is some sort of error and me not being able to format my hardrive in HFS+, any ideas of third party software to format the hardrive or why the {censored} utility isnt working, i have leopard installed on my laptop and i got everything working but on my desktop with an amd processor it wont even format the harddrive, thanks for your help

I've installed leopard without a problem , the only way i can boot is via -x , but i cant seem to bypass in the setup where it asks you to choose a way to transfer ur files , when i choose do not transfer ur files now , it takes about 30 seconds and starts all over where u have to choose country etc and thats where im stuck right now . Can anyone help me it would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hmm I don't think you can actually :P I was lucky to have tiger still installed so i could run it...

No matter, I reinstalled cleanly and used the resolution change switch to the kernel, had to fix everything because I skipped the initial set up but at least it works...

Now its just my ATI card I need to wrestle with, but Ill leave that for now....

Back to the MacWorld updates :thumbsup_anim:

How to find the "disk" and "partion" numbers you need:

Most Windows users aren't used to using "Terminal" or "Command Line" prompts and instructions. These really are a different language. To those that understand and use these commands frequently, it's actually a quick and effective way to accomplish tasks outside the Graphical User Interface. When you're not used to it, it's mostly jibberish...

The problem is: It's EXTREMELY important that you KNOW and enter EXACTLY the right information when using Terminal. If you don't, you can really screw something up!

OK, back to finding the disk and partition info:

There are other ways, but a fairly "quick and dirty" way is:

Boot off the Install DVD to the first Graphical Installation screen. You'll see a Menu Item above that says "Utilities" You can choose either the "Disk Utility" or "System Profile" (something like that?). Use either one to navigate to info on your install disk and it'll list the disk number and partition number in the form: dxsx ("d" = disk number, "s" = partition number)

If there's only ONE hard disk in your system, it's going to be "d0" (disk number zero), partition number is likely to be ONE ("s1") unless you've already got an OS install on a drive and you've added other partitions (or are using another partition) for your OSx86 install.

Use those values in the Terminal commands to make your OSx86 partition bootable and/or perform other operations in Terminal

example: suppose your disk is number 2 and partition number is 1 ( "d2s1" ) - enter the following commands in Terminal to make your OSx86 disk/partition bootable...

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk2 (hit Enter - starts "fdisk" utility interactively and specifies disk 2)

update (hit Enter - updates machine code for MBR)

f 1 (hit Enter - makes partition 1 active)

w (hit Enter - writes the MBR (Master Boot Record) on active partition)

q (hit Enter - Quits and makes changes permanent)

(you are now OUT of the "fdisk" utility...)

reboot (hit Enter - causes a system restart)

Tanx zephyroth...It's a bit diffrent...gonna report...EEdit: I did boot from dvd...EDIT 2: dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsX bs=512 count=1...still don't have permissions...Is the problem maybe in the master drive...dvd rom is set to slave and the drive is master
i think you have to unmount the disk prior to changing this.diskutil unmount /Volumes/XXX #replace XXX with name of volume

then try the dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsX bs=512 count=1

Zeph,

Is there a way of modifying the install disk to include a kext for SATA support? I currently have it installed on my nforce SATA but it was after much trouble. If there is a way to force the installer to load a kext file, that would work.

Anyone???????????????

Im almost giving up on installing , first time that i come so far and again im stuck :D

I got stuck there too, I changed the resolution so it would limit the setup screens you have problems with into not running in the first place. I booted with:

"Graphics Mode"="640x480x32" to do this.

This was explained earlier in the thread but Im putting it here for convenience :)

P.S. you will need to change your settings later, because it will default to admin, etc.

Can i run 64Bit mode on my 939 AMD system listed in my siig?
First page of this thread, first post, first line:

"I have seen a new torrent named Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1 for AMD SSE2/SSE3 (32bits)."

No, Zephyroth is built on a 32-bit kernel.

Anyone???????????????Im almost giving up on installing , first time that i come so far and again im stuck :D

You'll also probably get more (and better) help and information if you list your hardware and what steps you've already taken. Reading the thread and the Wiki information can also be a big help...

Besides changing the screen resolution, disabling your LAN adapter may help, choosing "I don't have an Internet Connection" may help. But, knowing as little as we do, those are all really a "shot in the dark"...

well im on my way to school now , board lan party

amd athlon 64 4000+ , ill give better specs when i get home

well i used the booting commands to make it boot and type -x to start otherwise i get a panic

im kinda a noob with mac so could like give a step by step how to boot with screen size
