alfredo456
Hello folks: I m thinking to install ATI X300 under Leopard 10.5.1 is very difficult (imposible for getting CI/QE fully?). Yes, I have seen some post where these users (I too), can have a bit oportunity. I hope. So, mu question is...what is the better graphic card (no very expensive) for adding to Leopard 10.5.1 AMD version?. Install and enjoy, without problems. Nvidia, ATI? Thanks you very much. Nephelim
OK, my addition to the "Hey, that's kinda odd" list... Once I got my OSX installed, and the Nvidia Drivers installed, I started having the issue with the USB devices no longer being available. This is probably coincidence, as after I got the nVidia drivers online, I was able to boot without the -x flag. However, checking the ever-helpful Wiki (which is insanely helpful, BTW) I found the solution that has worked for others. Trying response 1 did not help, as my Mobo does not have a "legacy" setting to disable. It does, however, have a USB Kyboard and USB Mouse enable\Disable value, and the option of using USB 1, or usb 1 and 2 (but not, you will notice, only USB 2). This, I will touch on again in a moment. So I pulled down the IOUSBFamily.kext file that was on the Wiki, and installed it, again following the instructions on installing a kext on the Wiki (I mean INSANELY useful). When I was running that install, I was trying to activate the kext immediately, rather than when I used the -f flag, and there was a string of errors that were thrown about it not being a valid kext. I should note, at this point, that I was an idiot and forgot to backup my OLD kext. Anyhow, I thought that perhaps is required a reboot for some reason, and bounced the box. When I rebooted, its now hanging on the blue screen again, even when I add all kinds of tags to Darwin to the contrary. I probably could drop into -s mode without an issue, I haven't tried yet. So here's the weird bit: I dropped in to the BIOS, on a whim, and disabled the USB support for keyboard and mouse, it booted slicker than snot, activating my USB sound device and my Media Reader, then threw an error about the USB drivers, which I of course could not click on, as my keyboard and mouse were non-existent. Having no CLI support for the keys was also a pain because without the keys, I can't add any boot flags to work around this. So I re-enabled the Keyboard only in the Bios, just to see what it would do. Same resolt - booted, with dead-end error. My question is, if I need to replace the IOUSBFamily.kext file, can I do so directly from the DVD, and if so, how do I mount the DVD drive from the -s? I have some limited experience with Linux, and a lot of experience with DOS, but I am unfamiliar with this shell's command eccentricities. zephyroth
steven7 It's slow on first boot ? If yes it's totally normal because Spotlight is indexing your drives. What's the chipset of you MB ? NForce ? VIA ? If it's NForce5 or VIA, go to the wiki and download the kext that matches your chipset. I forgot to remove AppleHWSensor.kext in /System/Library/Extensions, you can delete it and see if it's better (or not ...). For all I've added drivers for VIA and NForce 5 on wiki. sergiales
got leopard on but its not the fast os feels like runin linux live cd do u know any patch to speed it up ? Apart from what Zephyroth said, Mac OS X perhaps is not the fastest and most responsive OS since it uses Darwin as underlying subsystem (FreeBSD port). But think about other beneficits that this OS provides... BTW, if you want you can disable Spotlight and Dashboard in order to speed it up a bit. JoeTheWise
Today, I will work hard on Rev.2 and wiki ... My girlfriend returns at home .The mpkg for NVidia has been added to the wiki. Do you think Zephyroth it will work also on 8800GT 512MB (G92)? A lot of people is saying in other threads the new kext and framework from 10.5.2 is working with G92 cards, but I have tried installing manual and no luck, I have tried some other installers and still no luck. I got a kernel panic from geforce.kext. It works if I boot using the -x flag but in that case no CI e no QE. BTW: the ID for 8800GT 512 MB is 0x0611 if someone wants to had it to the wiki. BTW2: take all the time you need Zephiroth, and thanks for all your work!! If it works it is great format to HFS+ make a space of 10GB then you have 3GB left + the NTFS Partiton but i think the NTFS partition is read only as i can't write to the NTFS partition Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/73524-new-amd-dvd-for-leopard/page/54/#findComment-562102 Share on other sites

Tried just now (I'm posting from Leopard...) now the card works without the -x flag, I can change resolution, it detects the two monitor connected to it, it detects the right RAm size, but still no CI e no QE... JoeTheWise
JoeTheWise Ok. Well, I have manually entered the deviceID (0x0611) in the info.plist in NVinject.kext, made all the chmod, chown, rebooted, but the result is the same: a lot better than days ago, no more kernel panic, no more need to boot with the -x flag, the card is recognized, the amount of RAM too, I can change resolution now, dual display recognized and works too, but still no CI and no QE. I have also scanned all my Leopard HD with Marvin's Utility looking for decrypts and CPUID, but nothing. Your pkg Zephiroth installs all the files needed I think (kext, framework, NVinject) but I think it's a problem related with AMD platform, a lot of people on the other threads on OSx86 (the one dedicated to 8800 support or the one on the new 10.5.2 kext and framework) claims that also 8800 GT works well, but seems to me everyone has tried tried on an Intel machine. Josh25
I have the exact same problem that DioX has, Ive tried reinstalling like three times. All on drives i named with no spaces, like "Mac" or something.Everytime for me the installation hangs at somepoint near the end, I reboot to the dvd and "finish" the installation, but it always gives me a big fat error saying Instalation Failed at the end, and reboots. If i then hit f8 it only shows the dvd. Bottom line: Where is this "about a minute left problem fixer" that was mentioned? I cant seem to find it the thread, sorry. mobo: Biostar 6100/754 Nforce430/410 AMD Athlon 64 3200 Seagate 160gig ultraATA HD Nvidia 8600gt P.S. I have had 10.4.10 installed on this drive before, so I know its not the drive or partition problem. Ignore the error you get when you finish the install. The reason it boots to the dvd is because you haven't read any of the install instructions. You need to set your drive up to be bootable. Again, all the instructions to install this are on page 9 of this thread. Of course I tried that, ive needed to do that on most every other install of 0sx86 Ive done, it still is not letting me boot to the hard drive, Im going to try another install method which used the Master boot record option when formating the disk. I let you guys know if that works. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/73524-new-amd-dvd-for-leopard/page/54/#findComment-562196 Share on other sites

7eventh
Its workin As I couldn t wait any longer ... ... I installed 10.5.1 with the "old" Version of Zephyroths DVD. Installation went without any problem... Darvin was still active from a former 10.4.10 installation (Funny aspect of this: I fixed the problem of setting the OSX-partition active by booting into the Repair-Console from XP and fire up a fixboot) First problem came when trying to boot into Leopard as I went in the "Keyboard - User Creation"-Loop. Booting again with the DVD and removing all NVidia and Geforce files in the extension directory of the Leopard-Partition got me over the loop. After this I installed Zephyroths new NVidia-Universal-Installer and ... a perfectly stable working 10.5.1 ... so THANX TO ALL PEOPLE IN THIS THREAD ... I ve learned a lot from you !! BTW ... System: OS: WinXP 32 (40GB) / OSX Leopard 10.5.1 (40 GB) Asus A8N5X (NForce4) USB-Mouse/Keyboard Opteron 165 at 2,5 GHz 2GB RAM (4x512 Kingston HyperX) NVidia Quadro FX 3400 Samsung S203B (S-ATA DVD) Now lets see if I can get that damn serial Wacon Intuos to work PS: OK ... not 100% stable ...freezes while browsing ... but hey ... how bad can that be Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/73524-new-amd-dvd-for-leopard/page/54/#findComment-562224 Share on other sites

Josh25
Fourth Times a Charm! the previous times i formated the drive i just would erase the Drive and then partition it using the GUID, and it seemed to work, but now when I tried the MBR option i get a nice green check mark saying installation was good. After doing the fdisk -e thing yet again, it seems to now work. Now Im getting the No Keyboard connected screen once I boot up. besides buying the usb/ps2 connector as suggested, is there another way to get around this?
