It has been announced that the iPhone will be available in France in less than a week, on November 29th. The iPhone will go on sale for 399€. As the French law states, customers will be able to unlock their iPhone for free six months after their purchase but Orange will allow them to do that before that date for a 100€ charge. The iPhone's rates seem to be very competitive, as with the plans in the other countries.

I still think it's a lot. I -as a poor student- won't be able to afford it without saving up a bunch.

Takes me back to the whole PS3 launch thingy... 599 us dorrars.

It's still weird, a lot of phones are free when subscribing to a telephone service. At least in Holland.

I wonder how this will be in wa few years.

That's not competitive... I get 600 minutes and 500 texts with unlimited data for less than that on O2 in the UK...

Plus, you might be right about the iPhone technologically, but one thing I will say is the interface is very slick. It really is much nicer/easier/prettier to use than any other PDA I've used (although I can only say that based on standing in the Apple Store for about 1/4 hour playing with one) Mobile Safari is great - I can actually picture myself browsing the web with it, unlike every other PDA or smartphone I've tried to do it on (on WiFi, at least... EDGE is a bit too slow after using HSDPA. Still, there's always the next iPhone :D)

Windows Mobile sucks. It's an unstable, unreliable, slow, ugly, memory hogging POS. I hope PalmOS isn't as dead as it seems, since otherwise it seems like it'll have no competitor in the PDA market, and only Symbian in the smarphone market

My VZW plan gives me:

- 2K minutes /month

- Unlimited night and weekends

- Unlimited in-network calling

- 5K SMS, Vid, and Pic messaging

- Unlimited in-network SMS, Vid, Pic messaging

- Unlimited mobile web

All for just $100/month

I think I'll stay with VZW. :(

That's a lot of money to spend on just a mobile phone though. I suppose it makes sense if your phone is permanently glued to your ear (aren't you worried about scrambling your brain with microwaves though?)

I spend less than that on my mobile, home phone and cable internet put together...
