Stravaganza
Hi Stravaganza (and all others),I just have one more problem: MY MOUSE AND KEYBOARD AREN'T DETECTED, which is a problem beacause I can't start... Is there some kext for Dell inspiron 640m (same as e1505)?? Is there anything else I have to do ?? Thanks a lot Hi, gui31. Congrats, all most! Definitely you can do it. Did you try the Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad thread in The Genius Bar and they are not still working? --S Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/22/#findComment-536520 Share on other sites
RFMan
I have to admit, I'm rather stumped right now about why I can't get OSX to install according to the guide. I specifically bought hardware that is virtually identical to that in the original post: Gigabyte GA945GCMX-S2 motherboard (F5 firmware) 2x1GB OCZ RAM Intel E2140 CPU GeForce 7600GT 256MB LG 18x SATA DVD-RW Seagate 320GB PATA HDD Seagate 80GB SATA HDD Kalyway boots fine and does its thing fine. The Patched BrazilMac DVD boots fine, but less than 15 seconds through the bootup process, it just stops without giving me an error code. The last line I see in verbose mode is: BSD Root: disk1s3, major 14, minor 4 The line appears, the DVD drive keeps on reading for a few seconds then stops, and then nothing. No errors, no progress. I'm kinds stumped. I've tried connecting the DVD drive through an external USB-SATA dongle with the same results. The ToH DVD booth directly to the language selection screen, so this has me kinds stumped. I want to install OSX this way with PC EFI because it seems much more elegant and I can do updates, but I just can't get it to work. Any help appreciated Luc in Canada Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/22/#findComment-536532 Share on other sites

RFMan
I generated the .ISO myself on my MacBook with a Tiger Retail DVD. It mounts on the desktop when doube-clicked. I've burned to two different media with two different burners and I still have issues with PATA completely desabled. I'll try burning again tomorrow, but if that doesn't work, I'll check the drive in the HAckintosh, maybe it's the one that is having problems. genzai
Hello all, Based on this excellent guide, i bought similar components (based around the GA-945GCMX-S2) and i now have an almost fully working leopard. Only issues are as follows: Built-in video seems locked to 1024x768, though QE/CI is working Restart does not work (hangs), must use shutdown > then power on. I also was succesful getting 10.5.1 installed based on the updates in this guide. I really appricate the help from the hackpr0 community. I'll update you all on any bugs or sucesses i have as i put this hackint0sh through the paces. So far Final Cut Studio 2 is working a charm with HDV and DVCpro HD projects. Nice and snappy. Will install a Kona3 card soon and let you know how that goes. All Adobe CS3 products seem to be working, had to manually update some of them though, not sure why the auto updater would fail often. Will also be trying Pro-Tools M-Powered and LE with firewire 410 and mbox2. Will update with results later this week. By the way, i am using Paulicat's AppleSMBIOS.kext Everything else is as layed out in the guide at the start of this thread. Of course would love to get all all resoutions working. The restart bug is annoying but easy to work around. -genzai Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/22/#findComment-536686 Share on other sites
Onetrack
Yes.. it will..It is a high end mac pro - some people on this forum have built quad core monsters like Replicant & Weaksauce12 - the machine is as reliable as your hardware - for me I run it as my primary / only computer for everyday general tasks and for serious crunching and for work. Of course you could get a nice plugin card and have dual monitor, but its up to your budget what you get. I have a geforce 7950GT and some here have high end 8800GTX/S's running. The restart issue has been fixed, simply download the restart kext bin (AppleACPIPlatform) from #leopard on irc.osx86.hu and drop it into /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/MacOS/ overwriting the old one, of course then you have to go into that directory in terminal and chown / chmod it as described earlier by Stella if you can't find it:chmod 775 AppleACPIPlatformchown root:wheel AppleACPIPlatform and thats all there is to it.. restart is fixed.Hello all,Based on this excellent guide, i bought similar components (based around the GA-945GCMX-S2) and i now have an almost fully working leopard.Only issues are as follows:Built-in video seems locked to 1024x768, though QE/CI is workingRestart does not work (hangs), must use shutdown > then power on.I also was succesful getting 10.5.1 installed based on the updates in this guide. Coelacanth
@Onetrack Does this efi v5.2 works with Brazilmac's Patched DVD? I tried following what is on this thread, from installing Leopard, removing AppleSMBIOS.kext and putting dsmos and applesmbios from efiv5.2 folder, chmod and chown the files. delete the appleintelcpupower.kext and repairing permissions. During the repair permission in disk utility, it spits out a message saying something about the applesmbios.kext. is it normal? Upon bootup, it will boot but there's no video and if i attached another monitor, it will say that keyboard is not detected. I am using Inspiron 6400 Laptop. If i use the patch from brazilmac and all, my laptop works perfect, except for the sound and wireless(intel). Any help would be highly appreciated. I really want to convert from being a long time Windows User to a full time Mac. Onetrack
Not sure about your Dell, but earlier there is a patch for mouse / keyboard support ApplePCINUB or something I'll have to go back, if you want to scan the messages you can see its within the last few pages I believe. You're really close.. just missing a kext or two I'm thinking.. Onetrack
Absolutely.. if you're getting the gigabyte board - you can use pretty much any matx case as long as there is sufficient power for your system. In mine I have a Thermaltake Lanbox Lite with a 550 Watt Silverstone strider. But since they're standard pc motherboards, just get a case you like, and a good psu for the most part, i'd say personal preference? just make sure the powersupply has the correct plugs for your motherboard and other hardware. soulman901
If you are looking to build a machine that doesn't require a lot of power, I would recommend an EarthWatt from Antec. They make pretty solid PSU's. The one in my main rig is a Trio 650 and the one for my Hacintosh is going to be a 430Earth Watt. Onetrack
You'll have to format your drive to fat32. Most likely, and this is the most common reason why the drive is not showing, is that your drive is currently ntfs. OSX disk utility will not even see it if it is. I would suggest you download a copy of the gparted livecd and format it. well i got the hardware, and upon booting the kalyway format cd i cant see my sata drive! what to do? I recently installed Leopard on my Gateway NX260X using Onetrack's guide. The keyboard and trackpad was not working. So I post-patched with BrazilMac and then I got them working. If you already tried that, I am out of suggestion. If you did not do it yet, I suggest to do it. My laptop didn't give me any keyboard and trackpad without AppleACPIPlatform.kext *and* ApplePS2Controller.kext from BrazilMac patch. And here's an answer to your question. dsmos.kext is simply a helper kernel module for collectly reporting the system resources in System Profiler, so I don't think it causes a problem. AppleSMBIOS.kext could be an important part for the problem but I don't think it actually causes it (That's my gut-feeling). Good luck to you. --S P.S. Would you tell me what kind of options do you have in BIOS? Try "1680x1050x32". And I believe Kalyway's CD doesn't support GUID. Once you run Kalyway's CD, it uses MBR by default.
