Actually (sorry) I changed my mind once AGAIN and I'm going with the Bad Axe 2.

Good, now enjoy your overpriced, poorly-overclocking, non-45nm-supporting board based on a 2 year old chipset and leave this poor forum alone. Can't you go ten minutes without changing your mind?!

Most of us have P965/P35 boards working perfectly fine in OS X... I somehow doubt 500FSB would be stable on a 975X, let alone more than about 350MHz with Quads :)

YES IT DOES WORKS WITH LEOPARD

some minor issues though :

- wont shut down sometimes : disks stop spinning but fans don't

- audio needs patching, files can be found here www.hardwr.fr/files/macos

EDIT : woops, I really should read my previous posts... sorry about that

OK! Does RAID work?

well... about that...

Mac os will only boot when the SATA mode is set to AHCI, which means no raid. I've tried with the disk utility during the installer, raid options stay disabled. Either I've missed something, or it does indeed not work with this mobo.

No, you dont have to have a s-ata dvd drive. setting the onboard controller to ide mode will let you boot from an ide dvd-rom drive. but maybe uphuck isnt the best distribution.

i tested many (if not all9 distributions, and came to this: maybe using kalyway 10.4.10 with ppf 1 is doing well. it boots, it istalls. But i had some issues with my harddrives, that may or maybe not caused of this kalyway disk. but basically i have a PERFECT running machine that runs with my very first install, the good old JaS 10.4.8. It runs perfectly with the DS3 board (with minor patches to audio and LAN).

So i did the following: Installed a fresh JaS 10.4.8. Upgraded to JaS 10.4.9. Upgraded to koolcals 10.4.10. Patched a bit (natit 0.1, Audio, R1000 network, editied network.plist for en0 problem with FCP 2.0, appied CS3Patch). And: Now this system seems perfect.

It all depends on the components you have. No one said, that running a perfect Hackintosh is easy...

BTW.: The ASUS P5W DH seems very fine. but i wont go with the old 975X Chipset, cause it will not be compatible with the forcoming new cpus.

rhalls,

first, i'd like to say that congrats to your nice setups. i'm currently using an asus pw5 dh dlx and have no problem with it but by reading all your posts in this thread, i'm considering of building a new system for hackintosh based on this board. i agree that 975 chipset is a bit old already when building another setup today. do you mind telling us which revision of the board you are using? there are currently 2 revisions to choose from, rev 1.1 and rev 2.0. see picture below. thank you. :)

post-65600-1196747435.jpg - rev 2.0

Hi people!

I've posted the same question in another thread but maybe its better suited to ask my questions here.

Onizuka: which version of the P35-D3P do you have? I plan on getting the rev 2.0 version. I'm trying to figure out if the rev 2.0 has any suprises in store for me. I've already discovered there IS a difference betweeen the P5B-Deluxe Wifi vs non-Wifi... (wifi panics/hangs on ToH install, non-wifi runs like a champion!)

So I'd like to clarify a few things:

-ICH9: Bios setting on AHCI, otherwise works out of box - no performance issues (dev id needed for profiler?)

-Network: works out of box (no dev id needed), fix still required for time machine, uuid 35 error, etc....

-Audio: requires patch, but then you get 5.1 (spdif) and 2 channels out/in via analog

-IDE: works via patch (dev id needed?) - is it Jmicron?

-Wireless: doesn't work, but its not needed

also:

I plan on going efi v8, stock kernel with guid partitions... anyone run into issues doing this?

And finally, Shutdown/Restart/Sleep.....

I'm assuming that there are some shutdown (powerdown) issues, seems like every one is having them. Sleep most likely works if both keyboard and mouse share usb connection (this allows my P5B to sleep/wake correctly).

Thanks alot for the help & info! Its much appreciated!!

OSx86 ftw!

lolz

Hey

Mine is rev 1.1, it's got the huge chipset heatsink. About your questions :

- sata mode needs to be set to AHCI in bios, after that it works

- nework works yes, the fix is needed for the uuid error (for lots of applications ran from the command line, not only time machine)

- audio needs patching, 2ch out, i did not check s/pdif... audio inputs work too

- IDE: just checked, it doesn't work out of the box. you could probably point me that patch so that i could test it

- wireless feature is not on this card

never heard about efi stuff (except on real macs)... what's that supposed to be?

restart works fine, but the problem is shutdown. it will sometimes completely shutdown and then restart after twenty seconds, and sometimes the fans will keep on spinning after shutdown. this is not an issue for me, but can be rally annoying...

hope this helps

Hey, I wrote a full install guide for this motherboard (rev 2.0). I installed leopard using brazilmac, efi, and GUID partition map.

Everything is working (except for occasional shutdown/restart problem)!
