  1. It really works! Now my Linksys WMP300N (rev 01) recognized as AirPort Extreme, Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 b/g/n NOTE: If you get nothing after the 'sudo cat $SSB_SPROM > ssb_sprom_copy' command, just try to plug the PCI card to another PC. Didn't work with G41 motherboard + Ubuntu 10.10 but it did work with X58 mobo + Ubuntu 9.04 boot CD. Big thanks to BuildSmart & chrand for this guide.

Still waiting for working GTX 580 and see how it performs before rushing to get one. I'm sure lot of people are watching this very closely.

I was searching for a GeForce GTX 580 thread yesterday and I found this post. Has anyone tried GTX 580 yet? I saw some good review for this new Nvidia gfx card, slightly trailing behind HD 5970 and has only single GPU. Also has the same price with GTX 480. Please post if you have success with this card. Thanks.

5.1 Audio in Leopard - Hardware?

hi there, mtotho. i just saw your "Perfect Hackintosh" video on youtube. nice hackintosh setup you have there. btw, as a fellow p5w dh owner, i'd like you to know that i'm able to play a Dolby Digital 5.1 & DTS Surround sound DVD movie through the SPDIF output port connected to a receiver (an oldie but goldie sony STR-DB930) using the VLC player in discreet surround, of course. i can also play mp3's with iTunes in stereo (PCM) only. the receiver automatically detect this and it doesn't need any interaction. you do not necessarily play your mp3's or cd audio's in all 5 speakers. it is called Pro Logic in my receiver but i can choose to enable or disable it. it always play mp3's in front left & front right speakers only plus the subwoofer. the receiver just reads the information or sound it receives through the SPDIF digital input. pls. note that you can't control an SPDIF output in Mac OS X. your sound card must have 6 or more analog output channels and your receiver must also have multi-channel analog input. for more info about 5.1 sound in Mac OS X, visit this: http://guides.macrumors.com/Configuring_5....put_in_Mac_OS_X plus this youtube movie about p5w dh dlx's digital out in action:
  8. The "pluggable ethernet string" for Marvell Yukon 88E8053 works! I've been able to use the 10.5.0 vanilla IONetworkingFamily.kext without breaking the time machine. Also, the infamous " _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35" is now gone. This error is known especially when entering the "diskutil list" command on the Terminal, and also on some other tasks. For more info, follow this thread: http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,92.60.html
  9. i think this is a common problem to most p5w dh dlx owners out there. other mobo like the ga-p35-ds3p has also some issue with not only shutdown but also restart. but since i moved to efi strings, i no longer have this issue. i'm not quite confident if it's really a solution but my shutdown problem is now gone.
  10. yes, i totally agree with you.also booting and installing from this restored-retail-DVD on a spare hard drive is unbelievably fast. for me, this is the funkiest way to install leopard. how much more if you have all the efi strings for your graphics, audio and network? i already have a working 8800gts_640mb & alc882m efi strings installed. so far so good. next is the built-in network to avoid installing the fixed IONetworkingFamily.kext for TM. still trying to figure this out. ppl from other forum are not so keen on sharing. do you feel perfecting your beloved p5w dh mobo is not yet enough? then go and take a look: http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/board,2.0.html
  11. i_am...me, my post was supposedly a reply to wenecon's inquiry but his post actually addresses to you. sorry i overlooked that. there have been a lot of users in this community, including myself find this thread very helpful. not only you are a very knowledgeable guy but also you enthusiastically answer all the queries no matter how vague they are sometimes. we really appreciate your tremendous effort in helping this community and we do hope that you continue your valued work. we salute you! btw, my previous post has now been removed (by myself) from this thread.
  12. Works great. I already updated to 10.5.2 by following this guide: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87078 Note: You need to backup your existing AppleSMBIOS.kext, ALCinject.kext & AppleHDA.kext before installing the update. Time machine is still working after the update. Have not yet tried the Graphics Update, though.

[How to] Install 10.5.2 Update [TUTORIAL]

To resolve the above, you just have to put the previous AppleSMBIOS.kext back to your /System/Library/Extensions folder. Hope you made a backup of this file before you install the update. If not, you can easily find it elsewhere in this thread.

    Mac Users Have Different Brains

i must say that "people who are open minded PC users are more than 99% more likely to try to install a Mac OS on their PC".

    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P

rhalls, first, i'd like to say that congrats to your nice setups. i'm currently using an asus pw5 dh dlx and have no problem with it but by reading all your posts in this thread, i'm considering of building a new system for hackintosh based on this board. i agree that 975 chipset is a bit old already when building another setup today. do you mind telling us which revision of the board you are using? there are currently 2 revisions to choose from, rev 1.1 and rev 2.0. see picture below. thank you. - rev 1.1 - rev 2.0
