david06
I'm putting together specs for a system and my #1 priority is OSX86 compatibility. After reading posts on here, I get the idea that the badaxe 2 is one of the most compatible motherboards -- there may be others just as good as it, but there are really no boards that are actually easier to use with OSX86. What are the equivalent "most compatible" video cards (including the card manufacturer, i.e. sapphire, asus, powercolor, etc if that matters)? In terms of no video artifacts, all outputs on the card working, fully supported drivers, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71871-what-isare-the-most-compatible-video-cards/ Share on other sites
sarahbau
I think the nVidia 7000 series is still the best supported. I think the GTs tend to have fewer problems. For my 7600 GT, I just dropped in the natit kext, and got dual monitor support, CI and QE, with all resolutions supported. Onetrack
I agree - I currently have a 7300GT and have used both the asus silent and the bfg ones - fully supported independent resolutions with dual monitor / qe/ci with only a simple nvidia kext. Works in both Leo and Tiger. I'm upgrading tho - going up to a foxconn 7950GT/256 meg I picked up from ebay for 108 bux - just waiting for it to show - a friend has a 7900GS with no issues at all. Basically - pickup a 7000 series GT card - best bang for the buck with the least hassle. But yes, do make sure its a 256 meg card or you'll run into trouble with it. ~pcwiz
Yeah anything in the 7xxx series should work. The GeForce FX5200 is cheap and also works. The best video card right now that is compatible with OS X is the GeForce 8800GTS Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71871-what-isare-the-most-compatible-video-cards/#findComment-511023 Share on other sites
replicant
if the 7950gt or 7950gx2 is compatible, that is what i'll be getting. then you can eventually upgrade to an 8800gt or 8800gtx when the timing is right (aka driver support and lowered process). thefinalprophecy
If you're considering ATI, the Radeon X1950-series (GT, Pro, or XT) work great. The card I have in my sig zips through every game I've thrown at it, and NewEgg runs pretty good deals on it. The PowerColor x1950 Pro has a big ole heatsink on it and runs completely silent as far as I can tell. If you have room for it in your case then I'd recommend it. ~pcwiz
The X1950 is nothing compared to the new GeForce 8800GTX. Don't think I'm a GeForce fanboy because for a fact, I've never actually owned a GeForce, all my graphics cards were ever only ATI (and sometimes SiS). But I've used GeForce a lot and can tell you that they have better overall performance than ATI cards. And ATI cards are more expensive too. The X1650 is $160-250 to buy new and the 7600GS which is the competitor by nVidia to the ATI X1650 and has better performance overall is only $79.99! If you already have a computer with a higher end ATI card, great, you'll be satisfied but if you are buying new, its better to get a GeForce card as they have more support. Denzark
any nvidia 5 6 7 series that is LESS then 512mb. will work. I have 2 x MSI NX7600gs 256mb (id 0392 0x10de ) running 3 x 19" Samsung 913n (analog) and haven't managed to get a kext to work yet . I tried the Natit kexts without luck . All that happens is that OS X refuses to boot and then I have to do a re install . Does anyone know a solution? I'm running 10.4.10 . (MoC)
Get a compatible card off of ebay and save some green. Ebay has the same for less. Example: Store Wii HD Component Cables = $35.00 Ebay Wii Cables = $5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71871-what-isare-the-most-compatible-video-cards/#findComment-518378 Share on other sites
