Okay so I have had Vista now for about 6 months and I can't stand it! I tried linux but didn't really like it. I use Mac OSX on a daily basis at work and I have previously owned an iMac G5 and a MacBook Pro. I sold both of my Mac's to go back to PC...now I regret it. I have a nice XPS system with an Intel C2D 2.66, 4GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I would like to install Leopard and completely remove Vista...can I do this?

I have to be honest, this forum is definitely the most difficult to navigate and I am a member of 30+ forums.

I will go buy Leopard right now if I can be sure that once I install I won't have problems.

Thank you and sorry if this question has been answered before but all I see is dual boot info.

Mike

I will be honest I have not yet done it myself. But, it doesn't look too hard. Basically you dowload a .iso off of a torrent site (use google) (dont do this its illegal), burn to dvd, install from that. Its big (its the entire operating system, but patched). Or, you can use brazilmac's (?) patch. You buy the leopard dvd (legally), copy it to your hard drive, dowload the patch, follow the instructions to apply the patch, burn the result to a dvd, and install off of that.

When you are installing you have all of these options about patches for chipsets, video cards, etc. Choose the applicable ones. Once you install, certain things may not work. You must search the forums (use google for god sake, not the forum search) for kexts that fix your problems, and then copy those to some folder (i dont know which one) and repair permissions to make stuff work.

hope that helped, coming from someone who has never done it

I went from XP Pro to Vista and have reverted back to XP. Vista looked cool - and that's it. It had some pretty cool looking features, but had so many problems.

XP isn't the best, but it's better than Vista.

I can't wait to get Leopard working on my PC, though.

I am really amazed how many people want to run OS X on their PC who don't even know which mobo they have!

Ha, it's like back in the old days of OSx86!

On topic, I'm not running Vista at all now, I reverted to XP for everything PC. Vista kept interfering with what I wanted to do, too many lockups and crashes. I just hope the app writers stay away from Vista-only versions when they release new code. I know that many big companies, including the one I work for, have said they won't touch Vista for a long time yet, so with luck heavyweight apps will support XP for the foreseeable future.

First try Uphuck 1.4ir3. It's easy and small, and works on a great variety of different Intel processors and motherboards. If that works, then you can try and get Leopard to work, which is a bit trickier. Your motherboard is a Dell 0CT17, although that doesn't help us much. I googled it and I think it's based on the P965 Express chipset. You might wanna try cpu-z to see if it can ID your motherboard. The rest of your hardware looks great! :D

Good luck and keep asking if you need help :P

OK so P965 chipset. Here's what it says in the wiki for that. You can also search the forum, or ask for installation tips with the 965 chipset (ICH8)

To install: plug a DVDreader in usb,or use a SATA DVD Driver. Turn off jmicron controller. Plug a sata HD on ich8 sata ports, and select AHCI mode in bios. After install: renable jmicron...it works for eide and sata (but not for boot) - Usb need apple patch - Audio need editing of appleazalia.kext - LAN realtek 8111 need
