The ~28 Mb Security Update installed OK; still worked after reboot.

Installing the ~135 Mb OSX 10.4.11 update resulted in a continually rebooting system on my SSE3 VIA chipset 10.4.10 install.

Note: the 10.4.10 install had required using the "Universal 8.9.4 kernel". The default kernel does not work with my VIA chipset system.

Cool !!! this worked gr8..

1) Backup these files ...

/system/library/coreservices/loginwindow.app

/system/library/extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext

/system/library/extensions/AppleACPIplatform.kext

/system/library/extensions/AppleAPIC.kext

/system/library/extensions/IOATAFamily.kext

/system/library/extensions/system.kext

2) If you are using 900GMA / 950 GMA controller, keep Diabolikgma9XX.pkg handy.... (950/900).

3) After the installation, restore the files to the original location & run diabolikgma patch

4) Now repair Disk Permissions using diskutil.

5) reboot it...

Proteo - I am using the EFI patch and stock kernel, although there is also a modified (SSE2/AMD) version already complete.

~mac.nub

Mine crashed right before IOAPIC message with EFI and stock kernel.

Recovering from backup, then will try modified kernel.

mac.nub, what kext did you modify to get it to work?

EDIT-- System halts right after "Started CPU 01" with stock kernel, hacked kernel, and old kernel from mac.nub 10.4.10

Halts at same spot with cpus=1, except it doesn't start 2nd core.

EDIT-- found a way to boot. Guide here:

i've followed the guide from osx86scene to upgrade from 4.10 to 4.11:

http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?...b73441a77e7a6f9

all worked, no need to reinstall drivers, but takes a little while for spotlight to update my contents on the HDD after reboot.

one minor problem though, the sound card (ASROCK onboard AC97) now makes continuous buzzing noise. it gets so irritating in the end, that i restored 4.10 from my clone hdd... then i think i dun really miss much except safari3 and a bunch of security updates... anyone knows where to download these security updates included in the 4.11 upgrade?
