rhalls
Forget the hardware raid of the mainboards, it wont work. Software Raid from apple harddisk util works, but no big speed gain. ill test this fantec case in the naxt days, maybe with the included hardware raid and e-Sata i will get good speed. ill report. SkyZ
Can you be more precise? Do we have to cut a molex connector? Where exactly do we have to connect this cable to? Directly on the motherboard? are you using the connector on the motherboard or the one on the back panel? First of all, happy new year~~~ Been away for a while, and you can ignore my previous post, I just replace the power supply with a new 650W one during the weekend, and bang! No need to do anything (run custom wire or whatsoever) and I got all ports (FireWire/USB) working (even non back IO USB ports can supply bus power to USB external HDD, not to mention FW ext. HDD)~~~~ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71317-guide-gigabyte-ga-g33m-ds2r-with-leo/page/3/#findComment-569866 Share on other sites

Hi there, I was using a 450W power supply (check my signature for what I have in the case), and front IO can't really supply electric power to external devices, but with 650W power, all works fine~~~ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71317-guide-gigabyte-ga-g33m-ds2r-with-leo/page/3/#findComment-575276 Share on other sites
Pip of Perverse
Hi, I came upon your post and was wondering if you could help me with this motherboard. I currently have the GA-G33M-DS2R with an E6400, 4GB ram, 320GB sata drive, and an ATI X1650 Pro 256MB - using the flat image. I tried following the guides online to get sound to work, but the computer just hangs during the grey apple screen. When I booted it in verbose mode, it kept displaying something like Package 0 can't be found HPET and would just keep going on and on. Am I supposed to remove the extensions.mktext (10.2MB) from my System/Library after I replaced the ktext and did the chmod/chown? Is that what they mean be reloading the ktexts? I tried removing it, but it just hangs during bootup. I can't get the x1650pro to work properly; I'll probably end up getting a geforce 7300. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading! P.S.: I'm planning to place it in a Mac Pro case. SkyZ
I think it's about BIOS setting as you said there's error about HPET. Try modify your BIOS setting (you can find it in this guide) and see how it goes. TragicM
Alright, I'm having some issues with my current setup. Maybe there are some conflicts I am not aware of? I keep getting the message that my installation has failed when using the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD (burned slow, verified). I have had no problems booting off of the disk. I've checked my bios settings dozens of times, and still, I get the Install Failed screen every time I try and install. Motherboard: GA-G33M-DS2R CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz RAM: 4G Patriot Performance Extreme GPU: EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HD: 250 GB SATA Seagate 7200 RPM I don't know if there is an easy fix. I coulnd't find anything. Thanks! Grooby97
what I learned about using Kalyway and this board is to skip the DVD verification. For some reason, if the DVD verification goes, it fails the installation. TragicM
Thanks Grooby! That worked, and the install was succesfull! Now I have a new problem.... When I restarted I left the DVD in, let is count down, and then I got this error: System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found. Maybe an issue with GUID? EDIT: Nevermind, found out it was a problem with PC_EFI. Updated to v8.0 and it worked great. seye
Hi I have a working Leopard 10.5.2 on this board and it is very fast. I´m using the V32Kernel with Speed Step and EFI v8 dualboot with Vista. One thing that I wasn´t able to get to work was hotplug. I absolutely need this function. I have two hot-swappable harddrive-mounts, one e-SATA port as well as three SATA to CF adaptors and one PC-Card slot. They all work but I have to reboot for the drives to be recognized by the system. Even USB drives are not recognized when I plug them in. Which makes sense since the ICH9R also controlls the USB ports. Is there a kext that supports hotplug? Or another kernel? sauria
Thanks, i have already the same bios setting. For firewire i have a 10$ pci firewire card wich works well in tiger, maybe you should also try this solution. i have not tried it yet but i will. Just one thing, do you see the firewire interface in networks settings under syteme preferences? I do and that's why i thought it worked. And if i boot with -v, i see a message telling something about security and firewire, i don't remember exactly what. Maybe there's only a little plist edit to make it work. Which PCI Firewire card do you have that works? Thank you. Bungo
Hi I succesfuly installed from retail dvd using boot-132 method and updated to 10.5.1, next 10.5.5 (ComboUpdater from Apple) and installed needed kexts. Everything seemed to work, but I noticed that DVD drive stoped respond (no ejected) after few minutes with disk in it (can't eject other removable drives too). Tried different combinations, various of kexts, no results. I've the same problem with GA-G33-DS3R. Both mobos has ICH9R. Noticed that after few minutes it shut drives down in AHCI (as opposed to IDE), may be it is relevant to power management (saving)? Noticed that in IDE mode drives no hang up. Anybody noticed that issue? How can I resolve it? Bungo
dude...i have this board too and I absolutely CAN NOT get ANY boot-132 method to work! care to offer any advice..?? Wchich one? I haven't got GA-G33-DS3R any more but try this mini howto and this guide. Most problems result from ICH9R and JMicron controllers. Did you try to disable JMicron, IC9R set to AHCI mode, enable 0-3...native mode or set to IDE mode in your BIOS? Prepare your own DFE's boot-132 disk with working AppleAHCIPort.kext supportting ICH9R and witout JMicronAHCI support. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71317-guide-gigabyte-ga-g33m-ds2r-with-leo/page/3/#findComment-1000620 Share on other sites
