Every thing work!!! Even sleeping and waking up. Almost perfect setup coming close to a macpro (apart from my old creaking hard drives, sound only stereo with analog/digital out and mic in). My sincere thanks to all the great hackers.

 

I highly recommend my system for a person investing on a midrange hackintosh.

 

EDIT: I guess 'perfect' is the wrong word. I would say almost perfect, just like many perfect things in real life. :stretcher:

 

10.5.1 updated online, had my fingers crossed . . . . . . it works!!

I haven't downloaded ToH yet. Did you have to enable HPET in the bios first? I've heard a lot of folks having difficulty getting it to boot. And most important, do you really have mic in working? Have you actually hooked up a mic to test it? Not having mic in is the only reason I've never listed my setup as perfect.

Hey pakaya, I would be curious to know how you got the sound patched. I tried Tarugas 1.17 patcher with the 9274 dump on these forums and it didn't work - did you patch the leopard kext or are you using the old tiger AppleHDA? If you have a new 9274 dump file that works, please post it!

 

BJMoose: I did turn on HPET in the bios but I don't think it is a requirement. I turned it on because I was seeing a 'Package 0 did not get HPET' error in the logs - however that did nothing to fix it. Turns out the fix is to just delete the Intel CPU Power management kext. I haven't turned it back off in BIOS, as it doesn't really seem to be affecting anything either way.

 

For the install on the badaxe2, I would recommend going with the BrazilMac patched DVD (easy to make yourself from the stock dvd). Then after install, instead of running the postpatch script, just do the EFI bootloader fix (with dsmos and SMBios kexts) and you should be in business (add natit for video, etc). There's one additional networking fix that fixes time machine that involves putting a new file in the IONetworkingFamily folder. Overall it was pretty straightforward except making the partition bootable again was a pain (but it is all detailed in brazilMac's guide on osx86scene).

I was just gonna see if one of the Bad Axe2 owners here could give me a rundown on your bios settings. In Tiger and Leopard I have had weird network and shutdown/restart issues. I have to have 2 locations setup in my network settings, and everytime I boot up I have to change the location to get an active network connection. That goes for wired and wireless. Also I rarely get a shutdown, just spinning bricks forever about 95% of the time. I've tried almost every release of 10.4 that came out, and these issues stuck around through them all. It has to be my bios.

Bit over excited, sorry. I plugged in the only available mic, not working. This is not a problem for me though. I agree with you perfect is the wrong word. I am running default bios settings on the mobo except memory timings, bus freq 334, enabled quick resume technology and Vt

Hi I use the same dump as you, 1.17 strangely didn't work for me. tharuga 1.16 worked fine.

Hi, I apologize if it sounded like I was saying you were using the wrong word. I wasn't referring to your title at all. I've built several BA2 based hackintoshes. One person, several months ago, said he/she got the mic in to work but offered no assistance as to how. I've tried everything that has come down the pike since and haven't gotten it to work on any of my systems. What I meant to say was that the only thing holding me back from saying my system was perfect was that mic in thing.

ya those boards are expensive as hell... I dont think many people can afford or want to spend that much just for stuff like sleep. They used to be like $300 which is insane for a motherboard. I have a lowly $110 board that has decent compatibility, just no sleep which I dont even use in Windows anyways.

i like the badaxe 2 because it works almost 100% out of the box. also you can have sata and ide with no issues.. the gigabyte i replaced had to be run in acpi so the ide drives couldnt be used. and that made it sucky to have a dual booting windows system.

A real success story! Well, I finally got the whole 6+gb of Leopard downloaded last night. I did the first half of the Brazilmac method last night, that is, I created a SL DVD disk of the OS. When I got home from work tonight, I used Kaly's cd to format a new partition for Leopard (I really do know how to format, but I saw this and wanted to try it out). Worked fine. Then I installed Leopard. When I rebooted, as expected, I got the blinking cursor.

 

So I booted the Leopard install disk again and from terminal, I did the startupfiletool thing to load the efi bootloader off of a usb stick. I tried several times, but I couldn't seem to load the vanilla kernel from the Leopard install disk. Tried to reboot and this time I saw the efi bootloader, but I had a flashing message saying it couldn't find the kernel.

 

Next I thought I'd used the Brazilmac PostPatch method from an external Tiger USB drive with a couple of variations. I replaced the Brazilmac kernel with the vanilla kernel. I ran 9a581PostPatch.sh and rebooted, but still had the flashing message. I rebooted to Tiger and examined the .sh file and found I had to edit it by replacing the XXX with my user ID. Re-ran the .sh file and rebooted and had success.

 

I was really impressed that I didn't need to load any external kexts. Ethernet, Video (with full ci/qe support and resolution etc), USB sound in and out all worked perfectly out of the box. I could connect to my other computers (both wired and wireless) via my Linksys WRT350N hub. I made a backup of my system disk with disk utility and then put my system to the real test.

 

I accepted all the apple updates, including the 10.5.1 system update. It downloaded a little differently than Tiger, so I expected to have a problem. But when I rebooted, About this Mac reports 10.5.1 and when I re-ran the updater, it showed my system to be fully up to date. I haven't really tried to install anything yet, just played around with the OS a bit. But so far, after a couple of install snafus, it works great.

Marvell SATA working in Leo?

Yes, the disks on the Marvell controller show up just fine. I haven't done anything with them yet (they're my windows xp disks), but they are NTFS and show both read and write. I'll have to test that out when I get a chance.

BJ Moose or Pakaya, please help me out. I have a Badaxe2/Q6600/8800gts320mb on the way after thanksgiving from the newegg. I was wondering what leopard install I need to get. On my newsgroups I see flat, nextract (this might be the guy who put it on the groups?, its 20 days old and on a SL disk image), and the original disk on leopard. Theres a Brazilmac 9a581 patch on the groups from the first of the month on the groups as well. What install should I use and what scripts do I need after I install to make it boot, have sound, and be EFI Vanilla too?

I have a Bad Axe 2 system that I am constructing... It runs TOH Leopard with 4 gig ram and 2 X1900 graphic cards...

 

I have gotten one of the cards to work, but I am not able to get both working at the same time...

 

I want to be able to hook up 4 monitors to the system.

 

I have been able to get 2 monitors working when connected to one card, but not 1 monitor on each card.

 

Both cards are identified and show up in System Profiler.

 

Any suggestions? or will this be remedied by using EFI booting...

you might be all consider yourself very smart but there is no such a thing

as Intel BAD AXE 2 Motherboard on Intel's website.

What is exact model number?

You shouldn't save money on your mobo, especially when building a hackintosh.
