the audio from speakers is quite buggy...i just wait for a certain period of time fiddling with the "sound" option in system preferences and it would come back on. shrug.

edit:

has anyone tried running photoshop cs3 on the iatkos install? so far i've only come across this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;mode=linear and from what it seems, it does not look promising

Thanks to MacGirl and all the other good people on this messageboard, this little notebook isn't too bad with OSX, pretty usuable. Battery life isn't as good as Windows, but only by 45 minutes or so.

I've got sound working thanks to using KextHelper that is linked above (about 3 or 4 posts above this one)

I think I might need to get my friends old wireless card from his Gateway notebook (I think it is Broadcom based) or purchase a Dell Truemobile 1490 this weekend.

Bluetooth works pretty well; my mouse was finally detected but the tracking doesn't seem to be as good as Windows Vista, although it's not awful either.

Anyway to get the little IR remote to work within Leopard? It would be so nice to get that working with Front Row... I hear it works for the HP computers (very similar remote) on Tiger.... but because of the display driver available for the GMA x3100 only available in Leopard, so far the little Express Card remote isn't working correctly. ;)

Any thoughts?

try to enable sound from windows.. i had the same bug today.. i muted from winxp and when i log in macosx i no hear any sound.. after re-enable from win it works!!!

unfortunately i doubt that will help because on some bootups i dont have sound - and i dont even have windows installed :(

Maybe you could boot with a Live CD of Ubuntu or something and make changes in sound device.

so 10.5.2 has been officially released. Any news on updating and or fixing other problems?

edit: seems like on most install packages, the update DOES NOT work. Do not update to 10.5.2 yet!

edit2: theres a way to install it (at least on the kalyway install), people have said that reboot, shutdown, and sleep has started to work after the update + graphics update, not sure on what computer:

http://netkas.org/?p=50#comments

The update works, just do not install or delete inmediatly the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext becaus it will cause kernel panics.

But you need to put back again AppleSMBIOS if you did not use the Vanilla one, also for the AppleACPIPlatform.kext or the AppleHDA.kext (sound).

Sleep/Shutdown/Restart doesn't work yet.

Hi Macgirl, i did the update but didn't delete the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and having kernel panics indeed. Any idea how to delete the kext?

Thanks!

no go for me anyway because i didnt install EFI (non vanilla) :/

You can install, just backup your the kernel, AppleSMBIOS.kext and AppleACPIPlatform.kext, delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext but before reboot place back all the files you backup.

You can boot with the Install DVD, go to the Utilities menu and run Terminal from there you can delete the AppleIntelPowerManagement.bundle

Something like this, asume in this case the main volume is called Leopard

rm -fr /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

rm /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

then reboot.

I have a m1330 now and i want to try os x on it. Which version would you recommend at the moment? 10.4 or 10.5 ... and which releases will work the best. I don t realy want a very unstable/testing build. The release that works the best would be great. Thanks in advance.

10.4 works fine but lacks driver for Graphics Card, even on 10.5 or 10.5.1 are no support for the the Geforce 8400, if you have the X3100 you have drivers since 10.5

I have the 8400m installed.

I tried Jas 10.4 today but was not able to boot it with both cores enabled and i had to swap the disk every time i wanted to boot. I will try 10.5 tomorow. Currently i am reading all the guides you recommended but its not so easy for a total os x noob.

So, great - just great. I ordered a Dell Truemobile 1490 WiFi card from eBay and received it on Thursday and thought I would be able to install it without much of a hitch. WRONG. The WiFi panel that covers the wireless card, that screw is completely stripped. Completely!

Ugh, I contacted Dell to see what they could do, but of course -- my service tag number wouldn't link up to their computers and i have to contact customer care on Monday or during the week.

This will be the last time I try and test the waters with a scratch and dent machine. ;) Makes me want to sell it if it wasn't always a pain in the rear on selling laptops :(

i have a problem now.

installed kalyway 10.5.1 and the comboupdate 10.5.2

Then i installed sound (fist time installed a kext ;))

So far it worked like a charm.

then i wanted to install the nvidia drivers from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=78980 for my 8400m but after a reboot i only get black screen. what have i done wrong and what can i do now?

i can boot up now again. what installer do you recommend for the 8400m? when i have a clean install of 10.5.2 from kalyway, do i have to install something before the installer or something? don t want to mess it up again.

*edit*

i think i have done it now... it works

I have one question left. In os x the harddrive is alway klicking somehow. like it is parking the head or something. is that normal or does it damage my harddrive. in windows it doesn t make sounds like that.

Really don't know about that, check Energy Saver Preference, see if "Put hard disk to sleep..." is on or off and if changing make a difference.
Nope, doesn t make a difference. The sound seems to be in windows too but it takes much longer till the hdd "shuts off" (???). So you don t hear that sound all the time. In osx it takes only a few seconds. Maybe i m just imagining. Have to test it a bit longer.

Everything seems to work quite fine now. Installed everything except of speedstep. i will try that later.

One little question left. When i install the nvidia driver the bootprocess seems to take much longer than before. The loading indicator just stops spinning and than it takes 30 seconds or so till something happens. Normal or not normal?
