What also works (and makes me wonder): using my IDE DVD±RW. Don't ask me why, but installing with this drive worked from one day to the other. I think I made some entries in the BIOS which enabled it.

Maybe we should trade photos of the BIOS settings here :(

I have the DS4 mobo and have this problem? I get the 'waiting for root device error' even though using the orange SATA ports (WD250G SATA + ASUS DVD Multi SATA). The only time I get past is when I leave the SATA controller disabled! So instead of having to use AHCI as everyone says? Problem is that my HDD is seen as 128GB and not 250GB! I'm using Uphuck 1.4i r2. Any ideas?

JaS 10.4.8 + ppf1 + ppf2 recognized my 500GB SATA drive without much hassle, setting the SATA controller to AHCI, on an orange port. Note that there are 2 places to set SATA mode on the appropriate page in bios: the first [1st or 2nd option] is for the orange ports, further on that same page is for the purple ports [jmicron, i believe].

Could have to do something with bios version, mine was F4 [standard] when i installed it.

Thanks for the reply. I may just download JaS and try it. Unfortunately it takes days in my country and costs me plenty! I'm almost sure I saw someone with the same board + Uphuck somewhere on this forum...(EDIT it's ddrdark DS4+Uphuck) so if anyone uses Uphuck on DS4/DS3 mobo, please reply. I'll really appreciate it!

I'm using the right ports and bios settings, but getting 'waiting for root device error'

Use 'wrong' (default) bios settings and then I get a 128GB HDD recognised and not 250GB

upgrade ur bios! that should help also!

your settings should be like this....

INTERGRATED PERIPHERALS -

(YELLOW PORTS)(INTEL ICH9R)

SATA - RAID/AHCI MODE: AHCI

SATA - PORT 0-3 NATIVE MODE: ENABLED

(PURPLE PORTS)(JMICRON - GSATA)

ONBOARD SATA/IDE DEVICE: ENABLED

ONBOARD SATA/IDE CTRL MODE: AHCI (OR IDE)

if you set it to RAID you wont get MAC to recognize the disk!

all GA-P35-DS3P owners should upgrade to the F6 BIOS version, update to F5 first then to F6. Im running my E6600 at 3.2GHZ 400MHZ x 8 Multiplier

Captain nemo and the rest,

Could you benchmark your P35 systems and see what scores you get.(geekbench or xbench). Im building a higher end unit and was eyeing this board.

THanks

I'm using a Gigabyte P35-DS3P board. Here's my Xbench score:

CPU is an E2180, slightly overclocked (2.66 Ghz). Graphics card is a 7600GT natit 0.2. Everything works except sleep. I installed Uphuck 1.3 (1.4 didn't work for me) and upgraded to 10.4.10

I just want to be clear on this, You used an IDE DVD drive to install to a SATA Drive?

Thanks.

To answer my own question. Yes.

Use all default BIOS options, but change the first option to ACHI in the advanced menu.

AND don't use an uphuck ISO. JAS worked first time, and without pain.

IDE works, my Drive burns and reads. :hysterical:

You don't need a sata DVD drive!

hey dude... my score was about 200.... let me get it!

here it is... muahahahahhahahahah!!!

Thanks for all the replies so far. I've updated my bios, checked all settings, but still same problems. Think I'm gonna try JaS. Funny thing is that I put a old 80G IDE HDD via SATA/IDE convertor in my pc and it was read as a 80G (no AHCI). Gonna try and get another SATA drive to test.

Recently, I gave up my crappy MCP61 board and build a shiny P35 machine. Result is, AMAZING.

Here is my DS3R.

Could you tell us what kind of RAM/Bus speed you are using? I know I have a crappy CPU, but maybe I could achieve a better score by changing the RAM timings.

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L which is the cheaper version without raid or 1384. I can't get the new kalyway 10.4.10 installer to see my SATA HD. I boot from a USB CD/DVD. I have AHCI enabled, and I have been able to see the SATA HD from other install disks, like Jas 10.4.8 and uphuck 1.x. Anyone know why I might be having trouble with kalyway 10.4.10?

Kalyway is the same think as KoolKal. ( I think http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=62910)

Sata HD plugged into first ICH9 (orange port)

SATA AHCI mode

SATA Native mode enabled

There is no setting for "Onboard SATA/IDE" on this version of the board.

I'm booting from a USB CD, but when I run disk utility I see no SATA HD. With JaS 10.4.8 boot disk I can see the SATA HD fine.

hey dudes, ive run into a problem, i figured out why my monitor would randomly {censored} out on reboots... stupid NATIT driver... why didnt somebody mention its only for DUAL Displays... anywho, now the problem is that i have to choose between having sound or internet... i mean jesus! i want both... well heres the problem...

if i install the REALTEK R1000 driver for the Ethernet Network adapter it works fine! No problems. Now the problem is when i have to install the audio KEXT's

the only way i have been able to get the audio to completely work with all channels working is by Copying the KEXTS to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder and rebooting. Of course at rebooting you will get "Some Library Extensions cannot be used or something like that" welll... i do this comman in TERMINAL...

In a Teminal window do the following:-

sudo -s

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

reboot

it should then be ok

on reboot, sound works, but guess what? My ETHERNET NETWORK ADAPTER is gone...

does anybody know how to have both successfuly running? Cuz i am stump... seriously....

thanks...

ok, i figured it out, its the stupid TITAN driver that causes me to lose the NETWORKING card... stupid TITAN, is their an updated version?

also, anyone know why with the NATIT it can cause the screen to just stay black at load up? thanks.

I use uphuck 1.3 then koolkal 10.4.10 and realtek 1000 driver

i wanna know how you get uphuck to 10.4.10? i tried koolkal's 10.4.10 update with semthex's 8.10.1 kernel, but after reboot my both display did not wakeup only black screens, maybe i should check some patch in update window or do not check new kernel ? :D

I don't see how that would be a problem. 4x 2GB seems like overkill tho... Unless your planning on running multiple virtual machines, photoshop, etc at the same time.

you're absolutely right, but using win xp in a parallels vm together with editing full scaled images in photoshop on a 2gb machine suxx. So I thought that upgrading to only 4 GB isn't a really big step. Maybe 6 gb are state of the art too! The reason for my question was, I thought that the hacked osx kernel wouldn't handle more than 4gb... like my crappy 32bit windows xp which can only handle 3.2 gb ram.

regards

-s.
