Hi,

I'm about to buy a new mainboard for my C2D 6600. I don't need SLI, so I decided to buy the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3, because on my current MSI board with Intel P965 I'm unable to install it :/

Does anyone here has this board (not the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P) and does it work fine with Sound, SATA etc.?

I really hope so :)

Ciao

Nemo

TheCoolNerds: Thanx a lot! ;)

I just bought the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 this morning and it runs fantastic! With "koolkas 10.4.10" i was able to enable the Realtek onboard network card, even the onboard sound requiered a download and 4 simple lines in the terminal. I'm very happy with it! :P

Just picked up a GA-P35-DS3R myself (only difference is RAID support from what I can tell). It has an ALC899 (which needs a patch). If installing from one of the newer releases (10.4.9 or higher) there should be a kext for the RTL8111B, though your mileage may vary with that. Also, make sure you install using either a USB or SATA optical drive (only use the yellow/orange port as stated earlier, the IDE port and the purple SATA ports are controlled via Gigabyte's controller which I think is VIA but don't hold me to it). Also, make sure SATA is setup in the BIOS to use AHCI mode and not IDE or Standard. This enables the ICH9 BIOS for AHCI, which adds about 3 - 5 seconds more for boot time, but no biggie.

BTW, I'm using this with uPhuck 10.4.9 1.3, 250 GB WD SATA II, 2 GB DDR2- PC5300, Sony DVD-R/W, and an EVGA GeForce 7600GT video card. I also updated to Koolkal 10.4.10. Make sure you backup your ALC889 kexts (AppleHDA.kext and ALCinjext.kext) before updating.

Great board!

A short dissapountment from my side. I've 4x 250GB HDD (Samsung SATA-II) attached to my board. Only the HDDs on Port 0 & 1 are recognized by OS X. All HDDs are connected to the orange/yellow ports. Any ideas how to solve this? :/

Btw. I was suprised of the SATA cables who came with the Gigabyte board! Those nice cables hook into the SATA Ports onboard and on the drives ones with a "click" fantastic. I was displeased with the "normal" SATA cables yet, because they easily slip off the ports.

Ok once again me...

I solved the HDD issue by connecting HDD 3 & 4 to the purple "Gigabyte SATA/RAID Controller". Sounds stupid, but NOW OS X recognizes the 2 more disks in the system

PS. The external is a Seagate in a USB2-Case (works seamless with the NTFS Read/Write Driver from the Koolkas 10.4.10 package.)

hey NEMO dude, what are your BIOS SETTINGS under the INTERGRATED thing where you set the RAID stuff to...

A picture says more than a hundred words:

Ok - here are some problems I had while installing, so following a short tutorial how to install OS X on the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3:

1st: Connect your SATA DVD-drive with one of the two purple Gigabyte jack (JMicron)

2nd: Connect your SATA HDD with a ICH9 jack (Intel, yellow/orange)

3rd: Start the PC and go to the BIOS, select "Integrated peripherials" and set the SATA AHCI Mode to "AHCI" (1st entry)

4th: Set Onboard SATA/IDE Device to Enable and Onboard SATA(IDE Ctrl. Mode) to IDE.

5th: Press F10 and Y

6th: Insert the JaS 10.4.8 disc and install it

7th: Install JaS 10.4.9 Update:

+ 1st: Install 10.4.9

+ 2nd: Install LoginWindow 10.4.4

+ 3rd: Install SMB Fix

+ 4th: reboot

8th: Install Koolkas 10.4.10

+ 1st: Install Kernel & 10.4.10

+ 2nd: reboot

+ 3rd: Install the matching drivers (for me I was in need to install the natit dual for my 2 screens)

+ 4th: reboot

9th: Download the ACL889a driver kext from: here

10th: Install it the way Appleseed has told us in his thread:

Drop the two kext files into "/System/Library/Extensions/" (authenticate w/password).

Then, open a Teminal & do the following:

sudo -s

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

reboot

11th: Ok. Nearly done. Now, turn off you hackintosh and connect the SATA DVD-drive to the ICH9 (yellow/orange) port. If you want to add 4 discs to you hackintosh, now add the 2nd to the ICH9 and the 3rd & 4th to the JMicron one (BE SURE TO HAVE INSTALLED THE JMICRON UPDATE FROM KOOLKAS 10.4.10!).

If you want to have a faster disc, try to set Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI in the BIOS (Integrated peripherials).

On the next reboot if those discs aren't formated or in an Mac-unreadable format, Initialize them and enjoy! :(

Hope this works for you, too.

By the way: I hunted for a working Bluetooth stick, I found out that a cheap Kensington (No. 33348) for 19,99€ works fine with my SonyEricsson K600i :)

I would like to use 2x or 4x 2048 (800 or 667) dimm kit. Any experience with this configuration?
I don't see how that would be a problem. 4x 2GB seems like overkill tho... Unless your planning on running multiple virtual machines, photoshop, etc at the same time.

@Kieste: Never used 2GB dimms. But as far as I can say from using different sizes (first: 2x 1GB + 2x 512MB, now 4x 1GB dimms) - the P35 seems to be a nice board for crazy combinations :(

My dealer wrotes on his website that it can hanel up to 8GB of RAM - means 4x 2048 and 800 and also 667 MHz are useable with this board. I don't see a problem :)

@TheCoolNerds: Playing around with the speedstep technology? Please tell us if you got results.

PS. This board really rocks! I bought a AC Freezer 7 Pro yesterday and a 12cm cooler for the case. Now I can run my E6600 (2.4GHz) @ 3GHz without any issues at a temp. around 45°C / 69°C under 100% CPU load after around 10mins (Intel Thermal Analysis).

Yep, 2GB dimms shouldn't be a problem for that board. Tho as i said earlier, what on earth would you use 8GB RAM for?

Kinda off-topic:I find running 'In-place large FFTs' in Prime95, for at least an hour to be a much better test for maximum load temp than Intel Thermal Analysis Tool or Orthos, or ... Also, i found Intel Thermal Analysis Tool to display too low t

mperatures for my E6750 on a GA-P35-DS4: temperatures are around 5-10°C too low for one core, about 10-15°C too low for the other core... Don't know what the situation is for your board. To give you an idea: start your computer, go in to bios, health status and wait for about 10 minutes. Note the CPU temperature. Then start up windows, and whatever program you prefer for temperature measurement. Now let the comp just sit idle for about 10 minutes. Note the CPU temp indicated by your program, and compare with the value you had in bios. For me the temp indicated by any program is always at least 5°C too low. Everest seems to display a CPU temp that's consistently 5°C too low, so i rely on that. Under load @ 3.4GHz i've never seen the temp go higher than 50°C in everest. Which is nice :D

It's possible - that's how I have my system currently setup.

I have a Gigabyte P35-DQ6 and a Raid 1 array on the ICH9R. I boot OSX off and use a SATA HD connected to the JMICRON controller (set to AHCI (after I used a JMICRON patch - prior to that it had to be set to IDE)). This works with the ICH9R enabled and set to RAID.

To install OSX I have to disable the ICH9R and set the JMICRON to IDE. When I boot into OSX with the ICH9R enabled (set to RAID) OSX doesn't see the array - it only sees the two HD and two DVD drives connected to the JMICRON. It's a workable situation but I'm still pondering if I want to do something different for a long term solution.

i doubt u will get a ide dvd drive to install MAC OS X, especially with the JMICRON {censored}! just upgrade to SATA! best move ever!!!!

oh and you cant install MAC OS X with RAID turned on, its either AHCI or IDE, trust me! I think i know this motherboard like the back of my own hand!
