sulfo
Hi guys, after getting some cash for christmas I was thinking of "uprading" my system, ie. sell my athlon 64 and mb and instead get a D915GAGL mb and a celeron d336 or (if have enough money left a p4). I read that both are fully compatible with 10.4.3, does this mean i can install it from the unpatched dvd right away? plz tell me if i'm right here, because if yes then i'll go out buying this stuff the next day... greetz tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6197-osx-only-setup/ Share on other sites
Ouch
You still need to patch the DVD to circumvent apple's TPM security code which prevents the original DVD from installing on non-apple hardware. It makes the installer check for the prescence of a chip on the motherboard which standard intel 915 chipsets don't have. The patch stops this check from happening. If you get that system remember you will also need to enable the CPUID and NX/XD Bit in the bios to stop the installer from just rebooting before loading. I didn't realise this at first and it took me an hour of bios tinkering before i discovered it! sulfo
first, thanks for the quick answer! Patching the iso with the Anti TPM should be no problem with Ultra ISO I think. Sorry if this double checking but I wanna be absolutely positve that this works: If understand correctly: If i patch the iso and activate CPUID and NX in the BIOS i can install from DVD to (unformatted) HDD, just like I would install XP for example? Slip
Sounds Similar. I went for the ASROCK 915 Dual board and a celeron 2.66 with EMT 64. Everything works. Don't have a firewire device yet to try the Lucent chip pci card. I picked up a SATA drive on Boxing day and copied the whole install over prgs and all from a ATA drive , bootable after choosing start disk in preference's. I'ts nice with my Lexar Jump Drive to move files around to PC world etc. Never figured out the passwd permission thing with samba not connecting. As for whats next will they release 10.4.4 to intel dev's ? if not could be the end of the road. Like The Prophetess says might not be much point to a 915 board. Could wait and see what gets released. Unless you have use for a legacy system. I probably won't jump on the Mac bandwagon mainly re: cost and applications. Until I have a look where its' going In the meantime hope for a 10.4.4 PS U didn't hear it from me . someone else brought this up Ha ha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6197-osx-only-setup/#findComment-38848 Share on other sites

You have a Venice which is perfectly compatibile with Mac...so no point to do so....try to install 10.4.3 8f1111 with original kernel....is gonna work everything ( except probably SATA and gigaLAN) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6197-osx-only-setup/#findComment-38871 Share on other sites

There is no guarantee that 915G mobos will work with future releases. Be patient, we will soon know.. p.s. My Venice is running OSX perfectly fine (except for QE and CG - nvidia, vga but your 9800pro has QE-CG support) Edited December 29, 2005 by chelhydra Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6197-osx-only-setup/#findComment-38940 Share on other sites
sulfo
ok after reading up i've gone away from the idea of buying a cel. when i'm home next week (im at my parents right now) i'm gonna try 10.4.3 and see if i get it running without safe mode and with sound (the onboard sound i guess can be done from what i've read). wehen it does i'll share the x bench score... i'm curious whether my radeon 9800 pro will really work "out of the box" with 10.4.3, with 4.1 its just basic vesa support.... neway wish u guys a good start into the new year and thanks for all the help. if a problem with my specs pops someone to the eye i'd be glad if u let me know! greetz Tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6197-osx-only-setup/#findComment-39003 Share on other sites
linear
Just thougt I mention that I originally had a celeron D 340, and this worked great with the first leaked osx86. But soon after I had everything working 8f1099 and hten 8f11111 came out that required PAE (physical address extensions). My celeron defiantly did not have this. I ended up selling it on ebay and getting a 3GHz Prescott, and have been happy ever since.
