MacFeast
I tried to run 10.4.3 (8F1099), with the SSE2/NX patches. I tried native (booting of a DVD+RW) and from Daemon tools/VMWare. In native the computer just reset and in VMWare it complained about PAE (message is hereEDIT: Removed content violating DMCA EDIT: Removed content violating DMCA urlObviously I tried to boot WinXP with /PAE and to add paevm=true to the vmware config. Nothing worked. According to the HCL, my processor is supposed to work with these patches (at least the 1.6 GHz "banias" but well...). Any hints to what I've forgotten? MacFeast
After more reading, this only gets more and more confusing. The HCL says the Banias is not supported, but still many users on this forum are using it with success. Please help me. I am totally lost. And after some more homework I find it very very very unlikely that my somewhat modern laptop should not have the PAE, when my ancient web server (celeron 900 mhz) has it (it does not have sse2 though). If it is of any help, I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 (ATI Radeon Mobile 9600), the bus speed is 400 MHz. OSX 10.4.1 did work but I don't have it anymore. Again, any help is highly appreciated. I just killed my linux installation to get this going and I'm getting sick of Windows already....... And I also tried the 8f1111... same problem Edited December 17, 2005 by MacFeast Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5877-pentium-m-banias-14-ghz/#findComment-37040 Share on other sites
Scothiam
yeah, us pentium m folk seem to be out of luck (unless you have a 533mhz fsb). I found this link which has some info on PM systems, http://win2osx.net/wiki/index.php/Testspecs , but I think the best we can hope for is a 10.4.1 (with execpatch). That is, of course, till the real macintels hit the shelf cheers, By the way, PAE was first introduced in the pentium Pro, and has appeared in all(most?) x86 (from intel at least) cpus since. Apparently, it is only in the early pentium Ms (banais and dothan1) that it does not function "completely"(?). So yep, your old celeron has what we need in our much newer systems, d'oh! stmkjp
no, that's not true. I have Pentium M 1.7 (Dothan Core) with FSB400Mhz. this doesn't support PAE nor NX/XD, but I installed 10.4.3 8F1099 successfully(now i installed 8F1111 though). Technobob
I have both 8F1099 and 8F1111a installed on my Banias CPU so it is possible. Try using JaS's PPF files found here, they are the easiest to use and this one worked perfect for me. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=5710&hl= Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5877-pentium-m-banias-14-ghz/#findComment-37543 Share on other sites
MacFeast
This does not work for me. Tried 8f1099 and 8f1111 with different patches. Native and VMWare, neither worked. I think that some of the (newer) Pentium M:s have PAE and mine does not. That is the only logical explanation. I'm hoping that there will be a no-PAE patch out eventually... zorxd
strange thing for me and my Dothan 1.6 GHz FSB 400 (but overclocked to 2.13 GHz) I get the no PAE support error in vmware but it works fine in native Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5877-pentium-m-banias-14-ghz/#findComment-37552 Share on other sites
MacFeast
Ok I will give it another try with the JaS.All111aPatches. Maybe I did something wrong / in the wrong order. Luckily I've got a bunch of +RW:s otherwise I would have a nice coaster collection by now.... MacFeast
I did not notice you have a Dell you need to use this PPF patch. Maybe, if that shows the same symptoms as the PAE, or maybe I had both problems. Anyway burning is at 97% now (burning at 1x speed) so I'll see soon enough.... Victor Gil
Maybe you should try using de Original DVD ISO and then use the JaS PPF patch to get the installer working, it has all the patches applied and in case you processor miss something it still should work fine. MacFeast
Okay, I got one step further this time. It actually booted to the install screen but then the dreaded multilanguage reboot screen came up as soon as it started copying files. Maybe it's a completely different problem, I don't know. MacFeast
Nope. I have not managed to solve that kernel panic issue. I'm still hoping that someone on this forum knows what to do. jcruzlara
I had a problem installing it on my 1.4ghz pentium m too so I installed it on another computer and then copied the partition over to my laptop, but it's really unstable as some one said before you should try to put in -v and -s at the darwing thingy and then just type in sh /etc/rc when it saiys too that got it to work for me Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5877-pentium-m-banias-14-ghz/#findComment-37839 Share on other sites

MacFeast
Firewire dvd burners are getting quite cheap now. You should get one, because vmware does not work. Never did for me, or for anyone else here on the forum either it seems.
