Sudar
EDIT: Removed content violating DMCA But what if I have SSE3 P4 without NX? The unpatched kernel causes the system continiously restarting right after the apple logo appears on screen. The patched kernel is designed to emulate SSE3 instructions, right? But I have SSE3 compatible P4... mobo D915GUX, P4 2.8 (no NX), 8f1111 installed natively with "SSE3 noNX" kernel. 39thRonin
The coolest news ever! THANK YOU, maxxuss and DeathChill !!! But what if I have SSE3 P4 without NX? The unpatched kernel causes the system continiously restarting right after the apple logo appears on screen. The patched kernel is designed to emulate SSE3 instructions, right? But I have SSE3 compatible P4... mobo D915GUX, P4 2.8 (no NX), 8f1111 installed natively with "SSE3 noNX" kernel. Sudar - I ran into this as well. Fortunately, I was able to boot an older kernel - but no apps would run (other than the interface and java apps). Also fortunately, I dl'd the orginial 8f111a kernel with Maxxuss' patches & a java version of ppf (the ppc version would not run). The net of it is that I was able to patch an 8f1111a kernel with the two patches I needed (no nx & cpuid), moved the mach_kernel to / and rebooted. Worked like a champ (obviously as I am writing this from that box). I am beginning to think that the SSE3 emulation code is not nearly as benign as Maxxuss thinks it is... BTW, does anyone have an idea of how to test the altivec code - any apps that use it? Thanks! Technobob
Thanks Maxxuss and Deathchill for your hard work. It installed without a problem. Here is a funny one for ya, the first PPC app I tried was internet explorer and it crashed my system. I guess Microsoft just won't give up in trying to crash my system I have not had any more crashes with PPC apps so far Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5593-8f111a-update-available/#findComment-35377 Share on other sites
39thRonin
Thank you DeathChill & Maxxuss! I just finished installing the new bits (had a bit of a bump in the road, but no big deal), and had to run Xbench. Whoa! I picked up 20+ points in overall performance (was at 42 now at 63) . The UI is blistering fast, Photoshop lauched in about half the time, Camino is seemingly hitting pages before I can even hit Enter... WOW - big difference! Thanks so much for you hard work & support! antrunix
Asus M5N Dothan SSE2 8f1111a patch kills PPC apps : WMP 9 worked once and now refuse for instance. antrunix
Do you have a sse2 cpu? Thank You for all JaS and other : you're passionate people. I used your PFF patch 1.1a and then 8f1111a for SSE3 emulation. Mine is Dothan Intel SSE2. I've been surprised that these two last patches were worsening the use of my OSX. Everything was so nice under 8f1099. Thx a lot for astonishing work you've made.
