ALC861 - Completely desperate

Hi everybody,

I'm writting here because I'm desperate.

I simply can't make my Realtek HDA - ALC861 sound card to work. I've tried everything. I've edited Azalia with dev ID and Vendor ID... and I still can't make it work. HDA patcher is also useless.

I use a Asus F3Jc series and that's the last thing I'm missing to be completely satisfied with my OSX installation (JaS 10.4.9).

Has anybody make it work? How?

Please help :gun:

Wrong forum. Post in HARDWARE. <--Link.

Being a smart-aleck to those who try and point you in the right direction isn't gonna get you anywhere. Neither is posting in "Forum Information and Feedback".

Why does it take two people to say that this topic is in the wrong forum, and a third person to actually report it? Either way, it's now in the correct forum.

Sabr, it's because I'm the only one that ACTUALLY USES the report button.

Ok, sorry for all the trouble.

In fact it was I who changed the post to hardware. For what I can tell, it wasn't any of the moderators that did it.

Ok, once again, I'm sorry to go off-topic, but that's impossible - since you don't have the correct permissions to be able to move a topic to a different location in the forum. It was in fact me who moved it.

Somebody can clean up this topic of this nonsense and just keep it for ALC861?

I also have this sound system but no luck after installing the 10.4.9 combo update..

Anyway I heard somebody got lucky using the AppleHDAPatcher and the alc861a linux codec dump..

Actually I'm searching for that file but I'm not too optimistic..

If you really want to use it, I suggest you to downgrade to 10.4.8 and it will work with azalia.

you're right. I intended to delete that comment, because I realised it was wrong, but I couldn't

The downgrade doesn't work. I've tried that. And it doesn't work with AppleHDAPatcher with linux codec dump, either. I've tried. I've been trying since january to make it work.

I've edited Azalia with dev ID and Vendor ID... and I still can't make it work. I've read it worked, in same cases, with 10.4.6... but I've even installed that one and still no sound.

I've downgraded the system all the way to 10.4.6. But no sound still.

I've read that people with Toshiba based systems and ALC 660/861 have sound with the edited azalia kext.

The HDA patcher from Taruga plus linux codec dump don't work. I've checked with Taruga.

I'm using a Asus F3Jc laptop

Any work on that subject? Is there a HDA driver for it?
