Amazing - someone completely read my mind.

I'd be very surprised if this didn't help the 8800 driver's stance. AFAIK the Geforce 8600M is still a full DX10 compliant model, cut from the same cloth.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, because Im not very good with OS X. I do however know a lot about hardware, and the new nVidia cards. While the GeForce 8 series cards are DX10 supported, DX 10 is a set of Direct 3D instructions. As you probably know, DirectX is a windows supported feature. No Direct 3d on a Mac. Which is why you only see open GL drivers. Open GL is a form of software rendering, which uses mostly the CPU to render stuff, and is accelerated by the GPU.

This also explains why Macs are very lacking in the area of games. Most game companies like to use Direct X, so the GPU can operate at its prime, and so a load is taken off of the CPU. Its one of those things that makes PCs better than Macs. (yes, a mac can now be a PC, so in theory, you can get DirectX on a mac)
