So after the update to 10.4.9 windows computers can't connect to a share that I have set up from sharepoints. I have tried the 10.4.6 Samba fix and the supplied 10.4.7 fix but they just don't work. Windows computers can see my computer but not access it. And another strange thing is if I search for my computers local ip address it can't find it.

Tried erasing the share and starting from skratch but that was a no-go also...

I really need this function or else I'm forced to running windows again :)

I 've the same problem. After update to 10.4.9 smb-share doesn't work. The log.smb shows following errors:

[2007/04/02 22:48:17, 0] /SourceCache/samba/samba-100.7/samba/source/lib/charcnv.c:init_iconv(141)

Can someone please help me getting those files, I did not backup those files and Samba is not working :)

I have the same problem , can someone send me the same file ?

ANd i have the same problem with AFS Apple file sharing , somene have a solution , i need to connect to my eMac , thanx

i have the same problem here...

tried everything i could find (sambafix for 10,4,6 ; MPIP103_10.4.9.SMB.CIF ; editting smb.conf , ...) but nothing worked.

The only time it works is when i set the security from USER tot SHARE, it works perfectly from a linux box, but then the windows client does not let me choose the user (uses guest and greys it out)

I'm starting to get, well, really frustrated and desperate with this sharing...

It looks like the samba client cannot find the passwords for the user..., very strange

anyone an idea how to fix this?

If you get the following line in your system.log (/var/log/system.log) right after you try to connect, you need to install the smbfs.kext from a 10.4.8 system.

Apr 30 09:39:10 john-does-computer kernel[0]: mount version mismatch: kernel=103700, mount=103600

Do the permissions, chmod,chown stuff.

This is no bug from Apple's update but JaS' one. Just install the original Apple update and before restarting, replace the kernel and applesmbios.kext. Reboot, and voilà, a 100% working installation.

That did fix the samba bug for me.

I happened to find an old backup i forgot about and pulled the smbd file from.

Extract it, then run a terminal, from the directory type

sudo cp smbd /usr/sbin/smbd
<password>

then type

smbd

and that should fire up your sharing, test it out, or check the activity monitor.

Cheers,

IAN
