retroz
I have several PC workstations and a stable Hack n Tosh at 10.4.6 as I debate going to 10.4.8 (you can read about it here..and chime in if you want based on my specs and what kext (HPET) to choose http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36746&st=140 Anyway, with the speculation of a Mac Pro 8 core, I was reading that the iMACS are supposed to be upgraded too as well as the MacBooks with some speculating that it will get a better GPU and perhaps a better CPU and 15.4 option, maybe a PCMIA slot too. Just wondering your thoughts and if you were to buy one then the new ones come out, how much would you get do you think for a 3 month old Mac Book... White $1099 Black $1499 Which would have the better resale vaule and would you mind speculating on how much you think I could get as well as if you would wait vs. not. Thanks! Soliber
I can't tell you what you should do, bit I'm certainly waiting That new GPU is like a present from the heavens I know it's tough to wait, I originally wanted to buy one when I went on a trip to NY, even if it meant being stuck with qwerty (it's azrty here). Luckily my parents talked me out of it As for resellvalue, buh. You're still talking about a macbook that's only a couple of months old, and there are many people who could care less as far as gaming goes on a macbook. Off the top of my head, maybe 300$ less? joneSi
Well, I wouldn't think that swapping the keyboards would be hard ie change from qwerty to azerty. I've pulled the keyboard from my iBook quite easily with removing a few screws...then gently pulling. Then put new keyboard in, and change the keyboard in preferences. Just a thought anyway. joneSi EDIT: People pay dumb amounts for used macs IMO. I'd say $300 off (maybe less) is likely about right. Especially since its not a HUGE change for the average user. OSXtasy
Get a MacPro, and you can upgrade anytime. I still enjoy my MBP (vers. 1.1/coreduo 2.0) but I knew they way that I like to tinker, that I needed to get something "upgradable", so I went ahead and got a MacPro, which I can upgrade to "octo" and upgrade the vid card at anytime........ Yeah I know, but my parents wouldn't let me buy it do to warranty stuff. And if I went for the extended warranty, and finding and buying an azerty keyboard for it, it wouldn't have made much difference to simply buying it here Besides, all depending on the circumstances at the end of the schoolyear with my exams, I'm thinking of buying that Xcode membership thingy where you get the 20% off coupon, and use that on a mb or mp, and have my parents chip in some more Combine that with the money I'd get from my old HP, and a new mb or mbp wouldn't cost me all that much Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45341-now-a-good-time-to-buy-a-macbook-imac-or-mac-pro/#findComment-325127 Share on other sites
Urbz
wait. Even if no specs are upgraded, we'll probably see WWDC bring us Leopard, so wait if for nothing else. By the way, the keyboard on the Macbook is very difficult to ramove: it lies underneath the plastic of the shell. You'd have to dismantle the whole thing! -Urby Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45341-now-a-good-time-to-buy-a-macbook-imac-or-mac-pro/#findComment-325443 Share on other sites
Soliber
There almost has to be an upgrade announced, Santa Rosa will be launched the 9th of May, and I see a lot of casual gamers jumping on the macbook if it features Santa Rosa wit the X3000. An old test showed acceptable performance in Half-Life 2 with the X3000, so that shouldn't be too bad As long as CSS works fine, I'm happy And the Merom seems to get a revision too Either way, there are also rumours there will be a 15" macbook Look at us, like little children, waiting impatiently for some miracle news ^^ Edited March 16, 2007 by Soliber Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45341-now-a-good-time-to-buy-a-macbook-imac-or-mac-pro/#findComment-325475 Share on other sites
