I'm back again having now decided that installing on an AMD system is gonna be more hastle than its worth I'm now looking for an intel mobo and cpu, I have a 1gb stick of ddr pc3200 ram, so I'll be looking for RAM to if its not compatible and also my case only takes a microATX board which is another headache!

So any ideas guys?

Anyone selling their mobo and cpu?

Anyone know of some good sites for second hand hardware? I've tried ebay without much success really.

I'm a student so my budget is extreemly tight lol hence the "cheap cheap cheap"

Lookin forward to ur ideas! Thanks!!!

I'm using the d915gag and it is nearly perfect. They can now be had on eBay for as low as $20 bucks. http://cgi.ebay.com/102007-GATEWAY-AUGSBUR...1QQcmdZViewItem

The onboard video supports quartz/core but is slow but you can upgrade to Nvidia later. Buy a prescott based celeron like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819112206 and you have a pretty capable Hackintosh on the cheap.

I'd strongly recommend spending the extra money on a solid motherboard (Asus, Intel) with an intel chipset (not SiS, VIA etc.) and a solid power supply (Antec).

I've been fixing computers professionally for years and usually one of the first parts to go is the power supply, and with a crappy power supply your chances of killing your motherboard/HDD/CDrom go up alot if the power supply were to die on you. Crappy power supplies cost like 20$, a solid antec 450W should cost you about 70-90$ (CDN$). Its one of those "pay me now or pay me later" situations.

I've used Antec and Asus parts exclusively for the better part of 10 years now and i've only had a power supply fail once, and in that instance antec had a new one at my door in 10 days, no charge.

Also antec's NeoHE line (and maby some other lines) come with Voltage Regulation built in. Surge protectors only protect you from multiple thousand volt spikes, Voltage Regulation "cleans" the power, Computers have a tolorance of 90-130V (about) and your power *should* be 110V, cleaner power = longer life.

You can buy some {censored}e now, and replace it in a year or you can spend a bit more and have something last for years.

kk well lets try and set a budget of €150 then including shipping to ireland, thats pretty tight I know so I'm thinking second hand might be the way to go!

I've got DDR ram like I said so if I can find a board thats compatible with that then all I need is a processor.

Board will have to be microATX to fit in my case as well I'm afraid!

AFAIK all new LGA775 motherboards use DDR2, so you might have to upgrade to a newer type of RAM. Lots of options there, just weigh them all out (OC capability, warranty, price, etc).

I have an Intel D945GNT motherboard (onboard GMA950 video - QE/CI supported) along with a 2.66 P4 (805) Dual Core CPU. Just upgraded to a C2D system. If you are interested, this is rock solid compatible hardware for a hackintosh. PM me and we can talk if you are interested.

Sorry errandwolfe I need a microATX board! Thanks for the offer tho!

Okiee heres two for you guys to choose from -

The First Is An Asus - P5L-MX/LGA775 Intel945G ICH7 PCIex 16

http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat...ECE1269186#spec

Everything looks pretty good to me - intel chipsets, gma 950 graphics, supports Celeron D (which'll fit my budget now) and Core 2 Duo processors (which I'll probably upgrade to) I'm not sure about the sound and lan on this one tho

The second is an Intel board,

Has all the same stuff really but deffinatly has Intel LAN and Intel Sound built in,

http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat...ECE1331101#spec

Along with that I'll get whatever cheapie Celeron D I can get and probs a 1gb stick of RAM

Any comments?

cheapest and most compatible mobo is

INTEL D945GCL.

everything is working 100%.

and it have GMA 950 integrated graphics.

also i recommend to go with Core 2 Duo e6300 CPU - it have all features needed.

if u need cheaper model - so Pentium D920 - the minimum model with all features, inc. VT technology.

but if just need to run - any Intel with SSE3 will do the job !

that's all

about ram - for your choice, 1gb is enough.

Are you affiliated with antec? :)

Don't get the old Celerons, they lack SSSE3, and SpeedStep (tends to give you working sleep). However, Intel has released Pentiums E2140 & E2160, C2D (allandale) core with 1MB cache. At US$74 & $84 for the 1.6GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively they are great value. Plus, they seem to overclock to ~3GHz relatively easily -although a cheap mobo will limit that. The performance appears to average about 5~10% less than E4300, IIRC.
