MSI K8N Neo4-F

Generic Ram 1GB

Nvidea Gforce 7600GT

I have had similar problems with the install locking up on one of my machines using:

AMD64 Venice 3700+

Asus A8N-SLI Premium

2gig Kingston PC2700

GeForce 6600GT Dualcore

Seagate 300gig SATAII

I tried Pioneer DVR-104, DVR-106, and DVR-109

I have tried each drive connected via external usb 2.0 enclosure

I have tried each drive connected directly to the internal PATA connectors

I have tried with and without the iso patch.

I have tried on two different brands of DVD-RW and three different brands of DVD-R

I tried doing a VMWare install and the install completed fine from the same drives and same media however after the reboot the system got stuck waiting for root device.

The same media and drives installed fine on another intel-based machine

Maybe there are still issues with nForce4 sata support?

All,

I have the same mobo, and experience no issues on install (my problems are elsewhere.) I have read other posts which recommend you install to ATA disk0 (set to master) with the DVD on disk1 (set to slave or Cable Select). Installer recognizes my SATA drive but I didn't try installing OsX to that disk.

Given the note on the Hardware Compatability List for 10.4.8 for our board (Asus AN8-SLI) I'd say that may be where your problems lie.

Please post your results.

I encountered much the same thing a few days ago when I first tried to install osx86. Using JaS 10.4.8 SSE3 AMD Intel I could never get the native install to get all the way through, it would always hang while copying files. So I installed VMWare, installed it that way. Once installed I received an HFS+ partition error which I fixed using fdisk within the OS X installer. Once past that I got cockblocked at the "waiting for root device" error.

I read some solutions to it regarding changing jumper settings but none of these worked. So I went back and booted up OS X using VMWare and installed the nForce4 sata kext (search the forum for this). After installing, I used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the drive (it found a ton of incorrect permissions). I rebooted the PC and booted natively into OS X and it worked fine.

Same problem here

Amd64 3700+ (939)

Must be a problem w/nforce 4 and the JaS disc.

Could be an issue w/SATA however...

I'm trying to install to a partition on a sata drive, install hangs at random places between disc utility, and file installation

Any help = much appreciated

sounds like the hardware compatibility with nforce4. look in the forum, but i don't think they have fixed this yet.

did anyone say nForce? I have trouble getting the thing to boot up properly after the install, except I have an nForce 6 chipset.
