c-e-l
I'm wondering if all the experienced Mac users can comment on whether M$ Office for Mac is worth the investment.. I wonder how the other alternatives stand up on the Mac? I have used OOO for Linux for sometime now and have never had any document exchange issues with M$ Office for Windows users.. Except of course when propriatary functions are used with M$ Office.. My preference is to use something native to the Mac interface for office automation apps. Any feedback would be most welcome.. Cheers.. cel........... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/ Share on other sites
Guest bikedude880
Neo Office is an Open Office build designed around the Mac OS X interface. A Nonny Moose
Yes it is, and if you're a student/teacher/good liar, you can get it for about $150. alicheusz
I don't see good office solution for mac. MS office has so pour design, these floating menus make me crazy. Neo office is just big java app. It work even slower than my MS office thought rossetta. I love Open office on win and linux but Neo office and Open Office on mac are horrible. Best solution for me is MS office in virtual WinXp. I is much faster than MS Office through rossetta. But none of those solution are good. And there is also ThinkFree I don't use it much but its quite fast. Even online think free solution are better than MS Office on Mac Edited February 4, 2007 by alicheusz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/#findComment-293977 Share on other sites
bigeeezee
I dunno, I have macoffice and it works great. Its free too (shhhh), just go to any major university campus (make a friend if you dont go there) get on their filesharing hub, and look for it. I had macoffice (a better version than I have on windows) in 5 minutes. Grand total: $0.00 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/#findComment-294240 Share on other sites
e-rick
You can install a windows version of office through crossover mac. And Office:mac is quite allright, I really like the floating menu's. Nicer and better than the regular manu's. But it's really a personal thing. I'd advice you to try Neo-office and M$Office and decide for yourself wich one you like more Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/#findComment-294337 Share on other sites
sandmanfvrga
In my opinion, Neo ofice sucks. Big Java App that rusn slow. If you only need Word like productivity, look up Abiword. I use that. IF you need it all, then I hate to say MS Office is the best right now. Suzuka
Abiword is my favorite, M$ word is alright, but not universal Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/#findComment-294778 Share on other sites

sandmanfvrga
Excel? Openoffice. You CAN run openoffice, with X11 in OSX. I never ran it but it is not java. The X11 doesn't look all nice and "Mac" looking. Might want to try that. A Nonny Moose
I've ran OpenOffice before and after using it, I'm relieved that I'm using the real Office. Ampidire
I like Office:Mac 2004's floating menu's... It means I don't have to look at an ugly gray background and instead can look at my own desktop background while typing... NeoOffice has come and gone from being installed on my Mac, it's a port of OpenOffice to run natively on the Mac, Intel and PPC. It's alright, but MS Office is the most compatible for when I'm doing stuff for classes that need to be turned in digitally. alloutmacstoday
i think office is usually pretty bad, i mean, you can get iwork for $50, and it's universal. office always crashes for me which gets annoying when you're in school and you have to write tons of essays Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41147-m-office-for-mac-is-it-worth-it/#findComment-300104 Share on other sites
