ChuckDSanders
Haven't tried those, however I have a plextor PX-755SA DVD-RW SATA drive and it works like a champ. Kurto2021
I am about ready to pull the trigger on a DVD-Burner for my mac. I would like to order it today so I guess since nobody has said they used it yet I am going to be the guinea pig. Technobob
The only advantage to using a SATA burner would be increased air flow from not having the IDE cable. SATA data speeds are way more faster then what the burner needs so it will run just fine. Yes, I have this drive...even though it's fast and works like a champ, it sounds like a DeHavilan Dash 8 airplane. It vibrates my whole case, and I have a Sonata II case, which is pretty sturdy. sir mac alot
I have been researching this same question. to buy a SATA or PATA DVD drive. The SATA has a disadvantage of not being able to play audio CDs, there is no audio connectors. Although, I don't remember any audio cables on my macs to play audio CD. different? I guess the manufactures decided to save money, although they are charging more for the SATA drives. Also, i thought, you might have extra IDE cables but no extra SATA cables. Like a previous post said, the DVD is not going to use the SATA speed. If you are concerned with airflow you could get a round IDE cable. The SATA has a disadvantage of not being able to play audio CDs, there is no audio connectors. Are you sure about that? For years, software has read audio as Data, and played it through the software, rather than having the drive read it as audio. I don't see why it wouldn't work on SATA.
