wadewa
Hi, I have a strange issue with my USB ports. They are detected in system profiler but if I try to plug something nothing happens. The hardware doesn't show in finder or desktop. If I try to plug my iPod I can charge batteries but the iPod doesn't dispaly that it is connected. I tried PCGENUSB with no luck. The only thing is that once I saw the iPod displayed in sytem profiler (under High Speed USB) and the iPod displayed it was connected but nothing in finder and desktop.... I tried USB legacy changes in bios and nothing. I also tried previous version of IOUSBFamily.kext with........... no luck. I have to precise that these USB ports were working with 10.4.8 (8.4.1 kernel) and IOUSBFamily.kext from 10.4.3 My mobo : ASUS A8V Deluxe Does anyone have a solution for this problem. That's the last thing I have to get a perfectly working system ! Please help me Thanx PS : Attached pictures are snapshot while the iPod was plugged Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/ Share on other sites

banz
Hmm I have similar problem, i thought it was just me. But its not working on this particular laptop, the others are fine. It can detect the usb but I'm getting some errors in my dmesg. It can detect my pendrive but it does not detect my kvm whcih is usb. I didn't pay too much attention to it as the ethernet for my laptop is not supported. So I didn't check further. wadewa
I have the same exact problem. Sais there Dependencies: INCOMPLETE hmm. Let me know if you find something. I'nm goig to sleep couse I'm dead beat. I just installed 8.8.1 so I'm new to it. I will start reading the forums over the weekend and I will post here a response if I will succeed. Yes it would be nice. I tried so many things.... But just to be sure : you don't any plugged USB displayed anywhere, it's not only related to USB2. I saw something new and wired : I boot ... plug the iPod The Ipod say it is connected, I see it in system profiler but nothing in finder Start USB probe (app from USB debug kit) Unplugg the iPod Replug I get less than before : nothing appens anymore : nothing in system profiler AND on the iPod. It's like USB disappear totally I had a response from orbyte in another topic you can check it. I won't be there for the week end so I couldn't try anything. For information I upgrade 10.4.8 (8.4.1 kernel) to 10.4.8 (8.8.1 kernel) using an installer from Jas available on IRC during december. I didn't use any install DVD or so, just an upgrade. Tell me if you install 10.4.8 from the actual DVD. If so, I will avoid to download 4Gb for nothing... Something more : I rode a post in the quoted topic that say that someone had trouble with USB on A8V after using video driver... I also never try any bootflag on startup, you never know. Let me know if you find a solution or more information Hi!Please post your BIOS USB settings...!!! Are you using PS2 or USB mices/keyboards? I think we´ll get it... Rgds. USB legacy : On or Off or Auto : no changes at all. On previous version of the kernel USB was working on Auto with 10.4.3 IOUSBFamily.kext. I didn't have to change these setting to make it work. I don't know if itr comes from here Mice & keyboard : PS2. My only USB need is for HD, iPod and camera And we must get it!!! Regards PS : sorry for the english Edited January 12, 2007 by wadewa Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/#findComment-274237 Share on other sites

jso
I, too, have the Asus A8V Deluxe and am having problems with the USB as well as sound on the VIA 8237 (Left channel only). I am using the recent JaS DVD and I am using the PS/2 ports for both keyboard and mouse. I do not have a USB keyboard to investigate that avenue. I am willing to do whatever heavy lifting is necessary (kernel coding, etc) to resolve this issue, but I am very new to OS X and I don't know where to begin. I'm looking forward to a fix or suggestions. Heh, don't suggest I go Mac, I'm working on that. ;P Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/#findComment-274631 Share on other sites

SirKeldon
I had also the same problems as you guys, all is working 'fine' except the USB High-Speed Bus. My mobo is also A8V Deluxe using AMD64 3500+ s.939, i've tried the PCGenUSB solution and as you mates, the only thing that i see on System Profiler is "iPod" under the HighSpeedBus display list, sometimes MacOS catches the iPod and the screen shows "No Disconnect", sometimes not. Although there is "No Disconnect" on screen, the system doesn't reacts to mount it, i've checked the processes with "ps aux" and sometimes i see the "mount_msdos" process trying to mount the iPod with the right name on /Volumes/ but it always turn to "U" or "Us" and i can't kill it or try to remount, it's always stuck and my iPod never mounts. I don't know if it's an USB issue or the mount_msdos and msdos.util, i've tried different solutions, trying to edit things on the .plist's of msdos, usb, scsi and also iPodDriver and iTunesPhoneDriver with no sucess (i'm still a noob with MacOS X, first sucessful installation was 2 months ago, but not with *nix systems), i've searched for different drivers of all that things, also tried the new executables available on Leopard and no success at all. I'm a little bit "frustrated" cause is the only thing that it doesn't work on my OSx86 and i'm not so good to fix it. Any help from any kind of hacker would be apreciated, thanks and good luck for all the users with this problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/#findComment-305594 Share on other sites
riberao
I have an Asus A8V Deluxe, and seems that does not enable USB devices during the boot. To me is enough to replug the devices and everything work well, I have USB mouse, keyboard and wireless ethernet. Milamber_Cubed
I have just installed my own OSX86 install on my Asus A8V Deluxe and am having the same problems. I used the JaS 10.4.8 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3 DVD and the install went fine. Kernel is 8.8.1 (from uname -r). Plugging in my USB pendrive gets no reaction whatsoever - nothing shows up in profiler at all. I found that if I disable usb 2.0 ( i.e. 8 usb 1.1 ports only) then i can see my pen drive. Not ideal, but until we get a fix, it will get you access to devices. Not ideal, but until we get a fix, it will get you access to devices. No, that didn't change anything to me. I still have my ipod not mounted. Actually, with default bios setting (USB 2 enabled), I just had today my iPod mounted for 5 minutes then OSX gave me the error message about bad ejection of the USB device (but I didn't try to eject anything!!! wired). From that nothing else, back to the "non-working" situation. Funky frank
yeah this is the problem: usb 2.0 does not work on via chipset. only usb 1.0 works. But the point is SOMETIMES, my usb 2.0 work! I am always testing my usb 2.0 tv module. I can report maybe every 100th reboot, this device works and if so, all others too. I really do not understand why this can happen randomly. Milamber_Cubed
So it seems that we are still no closer to a fix then? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/#findComment-325143 Share on other sites
aliquis
Wtf, that is {censored} weird, I have the same problem on MSI MS-6702, but sometimes the device shows up. Anyway I have an USB 1.1 card reader which corrupts the cards every now and then and generally sucks, but it shows up, my usb 2.0 one and scanner never does thought. But now I did: ws:/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns aliquis$ kextstat | grep -i usb 29 9 0x32089000 0x27000 0x26000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily (2.6.1) <6 5 4 3> 30 0 0x320f9000 0x1a000 0x19000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI (2.6.0) <29 16 5 4 3> 31 0 0x327c6000 0x12000 0x11000 com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI (2.6.1) <29 16 5 4 3> 39 0 0x32fff000 0x11000 0x10000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub (2.6.0) <29 11> 48 0 0x33579000 0x4000 0x3000 com.apple.driver.AppleUSBComposite (2.6.1) <29 11> 49 0 0x336b0000 0x9000 0x8000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass (1.4.5) <40 37 29 11> 63 0 0x31e6d000 0xf000 0xe000 com.apple.iokit.IOUSBUserClient (2.6.0) <29 11> 68 0 0x2c9ed000 0xb000 0xa000 com.usboverdrive.driver.hid (10.4.5) <29 20 11> ws:/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns aliquis$ kextunload com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI kextunload: /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI: no such bundle file exists can't add kext (file access/permissions). No luck. But then I tried that USB prober stuff with my old memory card reader, showed up. Switched to my USB 2.0 one, and: It mounts!?!"#)=! Switched card in it, and it mounts again!? Under USB it shows up under regular usb bus, but that is ok for me aslong as it works.. or well, it's not ok, but better than nothing =P I have no idea if this is repetable thought, but I guess everyone could try that usb prober first. This is weird thought, on the USB 1.1 it shows up as 2GB, but on the USB 2.0 reader it seems I can only use the first GB, but why does available says 2GB? I haven't tried such a large card in Windows (and I don't have it installed) either so I don't know if it shows up as 1 or 2GB there. Short joy =P Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37939-usb-not-working-anymore/#findComment-370599 Share on other sites
