it looks like i'm the only one who has a "wireless button"

It seems like a lot of acer models have switches on the front for wireless and bluetooth. mine has one at least. also, would backtrace logs from a kernel crash when loading iwi3945 be of any use to you.

As does the VGN-T160P, which has a slider switch that turns off & on all wireless bits (bluetooth included).

Nope, the iwi3945 doesn't have any button's. All you can do is disable the wireless (FN+F2).

My amilo S1520 is bundle with a i3945abg. I got a "Wireless Button" which swith on/off BT+WLAN together.

Also, got two shortcuts to switchs on/off BT (Fn+F1) and WLAN (Fn+F3).

I used IO80211 and Apple80211 kext from the 10.4.7 combo update downloaded from apple. with iwi2200 debug version the wireless is recognized, it doesn't find any network, the signal is off but i surf, slowly...

i haven't a switch button to active the wireless, only Fn+F1

I have a wireless on/off button but it seems to be managed by the motherboard (ie, it works without any special drivers in Windows, if I put it on off, it turns my bluetooth + iw3945 off automatically, as if I unplugged a USB dongle) and NOT by the card itself.

My Sony-VAIO-SZ2XP/C have a wireless on/off button, if i put it on, bluetooth is on and iw3945 is alwyas off.

Thank for you Help !!! ;)

I found a new article regarding wireless Linux for 3945ABG:

Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

Sorry, didn't wanted to interupt the technical chat here :-)

Edit: It appears insofar interesting, as Intel now seem to have setup a project, that provides a driver which utilizes the new d80211 subsystem for the Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection adapter.

Can this development driver be used for OSX purposes?

Man, I keep checking this thread in hopes that one day I'll wake up and see that WEP and manual network configuration is supported. Until then, though, keep up the great work. You guys have made some really solid progress and it's been fun to watch this progress

I've a compaq presario m2000 running 10.4.6 with intel 2200bg mini-pci

Do i need to update my version of os x to 10.4.8 to even try this driver? (Is it safe to use the software update from apple?)

will it support WPA encryption?

Thanks, and sorry if i'm asking dumb questions, I read through nearly all of this thread but I'm still a bit confused as to the usability of this driver.

cheers :D

I don't think you will need to update, since with 10.4.8 you need to use older kext's.

It is not safe to use software update because you need older kext's

will it support WPA encryption?

It doesn't at the moment but im sure it will soon.

it looks like i'm the only one who has a "wireless button" :star_sunglasses:

i think the keyboard shortcuts do the same thing

kazu, this also happens with your card?

if you reboot (i windows) with the card connected to a network, does it stays on?

try to reboot from windows to mac os with the card power on - it might help

the

IPW_INTA_BIT_RF_KILL_DONE\nPress wireless button to turn interface on\n

is called only when the interface is off or by the firmware.

in iwi2200 when i press the wireless button it turns on - you should get the same effect using the keyboard

if this doesn't happen it's because of the firmware.

i never was hable to use the wireless button without loading the firmware correctly

did you try to reboot from a working connection from windows to macos?

I tried the following: IO80211Family.kext and Apple80211.framework from JaS 10.4.7 (hopefully this is what you pointed) and of course iwi2100_v2.kext.

- reboot

- no airport device detected...

- load iwi2100.kext manually - loaded

- (btw: during boot there is a message: Couldn't alloc class "darwin_iwi2100")

- no airport device detected...

- even no any wlan icon (bluetooth icon visible and bt works well)

- I can switch bt and wlan on/off only together (Fn+F5 keys)

- after I boot Linux - wlan and bt leds are ok and they're working (automatic, no any switch on/off needed)

- boot mac again - only bt works... :-(

how to continue?

pls help

Tamas

Hi to everyobdy.

I have tried the iwi3945v3.kext.

Before i have replaced the IO80211.kext and Apple80211.framework with those from 10.4.7. combo update from apple site.

Kernel panic.

Then i have replaced with those from my 10.4.6 Jas DVD.

Same, kernel panic.

Which is the problem ?

There is other to replace ?

My notebook is a Acer Travelmate 4220, MacOSX 10.4.8 kernel 8.8.1 (latest from Semthex)

PS : I have a button for turn on/off the wirelles

this is great news for iwi3945 users. if the new firmware works without the deamon it will be easy to port the driver to mac os x

i'll convert the new firmware , try some fixes and post a new build version here

So to start testing the iwi3945v3.kext. v3 I will need also 1O80211.kext and Apple80211.framework from the 10.4.7 release? Am I right?

Yes you do need these.

PS.How do I make the logfiles that is needed for further development?.DS

Also, the logs he needs are three text files you can create with the following commands:

sudo -s

dmesg > dmesg.txt

cat /var/log/system.log > system.txt

ioreg -w 0 > ioreg.txt

Here is a small FAQ for iwi3945 since I have noticed people have a few questions:

iwi3945 - FAQ

Does the iwi3945 driver work?

The current v3 of the driver doesn't work

Do i need to update my version of os x to 10.4.8 to even try this driver?

Nope, the iwi3945 driver requires Apple80211.framework and IO80211.kext from 10.4.7 or earlyer

How do I create log's to help development of the drivers?

Launch console and the following commands will create 3 log files to be uploaded the the forum.

sudo -s
dmesg > dmesg.txt
cat /var/log/system.log > system.txt
ioreg -w 0 > ioreg.txt

Where can I get the required Apple80211.framework and IO80211.kext from 10.4.7?

It is included in this post as a attachment

How do I install the IO80211.kext?

To install the kext you need to copy the IO802.11.kext to: /System/Library/Extensions/

Then in console you need to run:

sudo -s
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IO802.11.kext
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IO802.11.kext
rm /System/Library/Extensions.*
kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions
