eGWan
Ok! Thanks. that now works, its slower than my 10.4.7 install though.. but my realtek HD audio dosent work (dosent show up), also my ethernet isnt working, the preference pane crashes, about this mac sees my onboard ethernet, i just dont get any link, though the link light is on... weird.. well well well actually i HATE to say it twice "Read my post at #65" it was meant you to read did i miss something or didnt tell you to BACKUP your driver [kexts] before upgrade. Everyone should know it's standard procedure if you're going to upgrade or tweak a kext! here the simple way, Take a look at the installer screen captured i posted above. make a note, if you dont see your device driver meaning you have to backup your driver. how to backup run Terminal [Applications/Utilities/Terminal] then make a backups folder in your root partition, sudo -s mkdir /backups backup your drivers: cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/* /backups anyway, can you post what your realtek and ethernet specification here i never heard preference pane crashed after applied my patch until you, Usually it coused preference pane add-ons compatible issue with MacOS X 10.4.8 such Application Enhancer, ShaftShifter etc try to uninstall or upgrade them: /Library/PreferencePanes or /Users/Your_username/Library/PreferencePanes

I have both the JAS10.4.7 and 10.4.3 Disc. But what is the path to the drivers? Thanks -Charles

Intel SSE3 Desktop doesnt need Apic from previous version If your processor has only support SSE2, you're in wrong place! find somewhere to get 1048 for SSE2 Check it with CPU-Z:
Pushpull76
Okey.....eGWan......you are THE MAN and this is THE METHOD! My Intelintosh is now working, lot of problems solved with your update. Thanx a lot.
eGWan
you're welcome, glad to hear that some ppl report has successfull update to 10.4.9 with my patch too, i confirmed that, 1049 + my patch should be fine, but i'm still not sure for everyone atleast there's still an issue for mounting disk image, maybe it's bsdkernel related issue to laod IOHDIXController.kext i believe apple will fix it in final version, actually we can solve it by manual adding 2 commands into /etc/rc sudo kextunload -c com.apple.AppleDiskImageController sudo kextload -b com.apple.AppleDiskImageController Edited January 19, 2007 by eGWan
cdickinson66
Yes eGWan , {EDIT} Dell B110 desktop. Intel Celeron D 2.53 GHz Chip set Intel 865 GV 1.25 GB ram 400 MHz Bus Speed 533 MHz MotherBoard Board Intel D865GVHZ Intel® 865GV Chipset with Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 I found the mother board specs by comparing with Intels site below: http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d865gvhz/index.htm http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst...SM/techov12.jpg I had checked in system profiler already while at 10.4.7 and it read SSE3 in the list So I read through the rest of the thread and found you had mentioned to others the IOPCcardfamily.ktext and the AppleAPIC.ktext could be the problem. I deleted the the IOPCfamily.ktext and rebooted and still got the kernel panic. So I went in with Install disc / Terminal and deleted the APIC.ktext as well. but was thinking I could grab an old one off the install disc somewhere? Now it panics with "unable to find driver ACPI for this machine" Does this info help ?? Thanks -Charles Edited January 19, 2007 by cdickinson66

Also I found this website http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/sempron_3.html It gives the SSE3 details for a bunch of processors. As far i know all QI & CI supported gpu can enable Q2DE with Quartz Debug or Quartz Simple There's a tutor to enable Q2DE: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11550 Dont ask for more, atleast this purpose for keep up to date your osx86 version, i heard some apps only run with 1048 only like Aperture and also many EFI Injection driver only run with 8.8.1 kernel e.g Natit, Titan, ALCInject etc good luck

codedancer
I would appreciate some guidance from any experts here. I had a working 10.4.6 installation and tried the patch instructions here following them step by step. On the restart I using -v I got a continuous crashdump loop of coreservicesd. I have tried the following: 1. boot into single user mode 2. rename /Library/caches 3. reboot ----- 1. boot into single user mode 2. run restorevga ----- 1. boot into single user mode 2. run sh /etc/rc All of the above result in the same state. I am running with an Nvidia 7500 card and had the drivers working without harware accelleration at the time of my update attempt if that helps. cdickinson66
Thanks eGWAN, Yes and no, I have the disc with the JaS patch to 10.4.8 integrated however it will not install If I select JaS 10.4.8 Intel under "customize" the installer crashes. "Installer had Errors please try again" So I was just using it to install the base 10.4.7 and the loginwindow fixes then I wanted to use your's to upgrade. Still no luck. What is the AppleACPI ??? -Charles

What is the AppleACPI ??? -Charles you mean you are trying to upgrade from unpatch 1044 version? AppleACPI similiar with Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) standard which has written by an alliance of vendors to provide a standard interface for hardware resources and power management (hence the name). It is a key element in Operating System-directed configuration and Power Management, In this case, since apple has modified AppleACPI, looks like your cpu chiped not compatible to use the new one
cdickinson66
Currently I can get 10.4.7 to work pretty good. Not sure why the ACPI would have changed between .7 and .8. I can upgrade to 10.4.8 by coping the older 10.4.7 ACPI over before rebooting but then I get stuck on a Blue screen Am I the only one with this problem??? -Charles

Dark_Snake
I tried to install it. But i nave no result. First of All I had create copy of IOPCCardFamily.kext and copied it. (don't think that trouble in it, i tried without this step, it's also no effect) Next, i installed combo update from mac and force quit. Next, installed your patch. I tried all kernels, and it has no effect on my laptop. Nex, i forced quit and replaced IOPCCardFamily.kext - that's why i has no such panic. I restarted Macer and get panic in System.kext. Could you help to me? My Macer configuration: Intel Core Duo - 1.66 (fully supports SSE3) Memory - 1024 Dual-channel Video - ATI x1300 (i had choise no driver in your pakage) I had normal work JaS 10.4.7. (in SSE3 mode) Sorry for my English. - Dark. Edited January 24, 2007 by Dark_Snake
