WhiteNoiseEthan
Hey all, I (and many others I'm sure) are looking at picking a core 2 duo chip, but first would like to hear about its performance in OS X. I understand that the current kernel only allows one core to be used, and I'm looking for some reports on how the actual performance is with just the one core. Both in terms of look-and-feel and Xbench. Also, I've not seen any clear statements about the prospects for full support in future kernels/patches (?) cheers, Ethan -------- speculative build: e6300 C2D (waiting to buy). Considering a Pentium D 920 if C2D not worth it. Asus P5DL2-VM DH Rev. 2 (got it) HIS ATI x1600xt 256mb (got it) 2 GB ddr2 667 (got it) cheapo USB Sound (waiting) cheapo firewire (waiting) Edited December 23, 2006 by WhiteNoiseEthan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36651-how-is-cpu1-c2d-performance/ Share on other sites
sg
both cores work just fine with any semthex/mikfi kernel, works even better with the latest semthex kernel when it comes to timings. i think only the core duo (not the 2) has issues with 2 active cores. Infamous
Dual core works fine here too... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36651-how-is-cpu1-c2d-performance/#findComment-260726 Share on other sites
WhiteNoiseEthan
Well that's certainly good to hear. Although I swear I remember reading lots of reports of folks being stuck with just one core. ninetto
Well I think the problems you are refering to are only LAPTOPS which always present a bigger challenge to tweak right. Otherwise the CORE 2 DUOs seem to work really fine with 10.4.8 on 945 boards. BUT THIS too will be solved in time, gushing data-flow to one and all, n.m. Shimms
I'm running the latest Semthex with a core 2 duo (E6400, on an Asus P5LD2-VM mobo) and I have to run with cpus=1 or I get a kernel panic shortly after logging in.... Hi, I got almost the same setup as you (p5w dh, conroe 6600) and can´t get it to work! install from 10.4.7 DVD works, install from 10.4.8 always kernel panics .. how did you get 8.8.1 to work? regs Eciatasa Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36651-how-is-cpu1-c2d-performance/#findComment-262108 Share on other sites
Wisam
Pentium D Dual Core 2.8 works like a charm here. Both cores activity can be monitored and even you have Enhance Halt State / Speed Stepping are working since my fan speed are adjusting with CPU performance. The problems I read was with AMD X2 processors.
