Hey all, I (and many others I'm sure) are looking at picking a core 2 duo chip, but first would like to hear about its performance in OS X.

I understand that the current kernel only allows one core to be used, and I'm looking for some reports on how the actual performance is with just the one core. Both in terms of look-and-feel and Xbench.

Also, I've not seen any clear statements about the prospects for full support in future kernels/patches (?)

cheers,

Ethan

Well I think the problems you are refering to are only LAPTOPS which always present a bigger challenge to tweak right. Otherwise the CORE 2 DUOs seem to work really fine with 10.4.8 on 945 boards.

BUT THIS too will be solved in time,

gushing data-flow to one and all,

n.m.

had problems with the first semthex 8.8.1 kernel, but beta 8 works like a charm !

Hi,

I got almost the same setup as you (p5w dh, conroe 6600) and can´t get it to work! install from 10.4.7 DVD works, install from 10.4.8 always kernel panics ..

how did you get 8.8.1 to work?
