Is it safe to use with newer OC? Will it mess up the config if it doesn't support all the features of newer versions?" So I kinda dismissed it and only used it as an alternative, and only for config editing. But reading more into this (thanks to your comment above) I understood how it's actually supposed to work. So, once again, thank you! Use this button , then click on "get the lastest version of Opencore" and when you got the version 1.07, click on "Start Sync". 3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849227 Share on other sites

Estou confuso. :)) Hi @Arsradu My Apple ID that I use most on Hackintosh does not work, but it works with Clover. I even have been used OpenCore, and I don’t even know why I still have it, since I don’t even use it. But I didn’t test it with it; I only imported the SMBIOS from OpenCore into Clover using OCAT. They are different and it will break my use with the Apple ID by asking to reactivate two-factor authentication. My situation was the same as yours. The difference is that I did what the colleagues above showed and used an old ID that only has the email. If we enter only the email or only the phone number it might still work. But I know that Apple is “calculating” that we don’t have all the hacks there, and it may be that I exceeded the minimum they consider acceptable. Max.1974
If I try to connect my main Apple ID on my hack, it doesn’t let me change anything because Apple permanently ties it to my phone number 😂 On the hack, it shows my email + phone number, but on my real Macs it shows only the email — even though it’s the same Apple ID. The problem is that I’m using the same phone number for both IDs (I actually have 3 Apple IDs in total). One of them I use just for testing my old hacks. XanthraX
I have 2 hacks and 2 real macs, but I use only one of them. I never had problems. But well, I only log in with email, neve 2 factors authentification. I like OpenCore more, because 1. I learned how to make it with OCAT and I find it very easy; and 2. It behaves like real Mac. I dont let picker to show, only when I keep Alt pressed and if I need to boot in verbose mode, I keep pressed cmd+v, like in real Macs. I tested with that too, and it still didn't work. Weirdly enough, even with valid serials, on first attempt, it didn't work. I haven't tested again cause now it works with my main account. So...no need anymore. But it didn't work the first time I tried with valid serials, and it never worked with generated serials. But then again, it also didn't work with my main account. I don't know what could be the issue on your real Mac. I guess you already checked to see if your Text Message Forwarding is set to enabled on your iPhone (or if you can enable it). Also, see if you have Send & receive se tot 2 addresses (the email and the phone number) on your phone. Maybe also try to logout and log back in....? Just saying. In my case, everything works now, and it shows both the email and the phone number, on all my devices, hacks or real. I kinda like it actually. And since I'm multi-booting Windows and MacOS (and a few versions of that), it helps to have a boot picker show up for a few seconds, in case you want to boot into one of those OSes. True, I could just leave it hidden and only shown when needed, but I don't know, I kinda like it this way. But yeah, it's not "the real Mac experience", but I don't mind it. However, a new (probably old) feature I recently found out about is setting OC as "Full" (Misc > LauncherOption > Full). This makes OC permanent and resistant to Windows' forced rewrites (or so I understood). So I found it useful. For USB, I still have it set to Disabled. I'm still unsure what could be different between your use cases and mine. Not sure what happened in my case. But I'm super happy it finally works! Having the ability to text and call from your Mac is super useful. Max.1974
So I called Apple to ask, and they said that my old Apple ID only uses email. But my iPhone, since it has two numbers — one physical SIM and one virtual (the one I originally use with my Apple ID) — is unavailable due to Apple’s security reasons. They also said that in Brazil you need a physical SIM card to activate iMessage (I just saw that warning now). So my old account still works, but the new one doesn’t with just email, because I somehow updated it and now it only works without a phone number. And my physical phone number is from work, so I’m not going to use it for testing. So it matters because I’d have to change settings. So the ‘secret’ in my case is to have a SIM card just for iMessage on Hackintosh, and I use it normally on a real Mac because for some reason it works with or without a phone number or email — who knows? hahaha!! Is this only for first time activations or always? Like, will it work if you activate iMessage with the physical SIM card and then update it to eSIM? I had an eSIM for a while, and no such issues. But I don't live in BR. And also, my account was initially activated with a physical SIM. And after testing eSIM for a while, I switched back to physical SIM cause it's (at least to me) more convenient than the eSIM. Cause with the eSIM, there's an entire process if you want to test something on another phone. Or if you break your screen and have no way to use your phone. With physical, you just remove the SIM, put it in another phone, and voilà, you've got service. So, yeah, new tech, cool tech...but not for me. To me, eSIM would be useful only if you have like 5 or 6 numbers and no slots to put them in. But if you have 5-6 numbers, then you probably don't need a phone for them. :)) You probably need to consider something more "professional". :)) But yeah, so basically, you would need an iPhone, with a physical SIM, just to reroute messages to the Mac. Edit: I'm starting to see a pattern here. And it's not related to the Apple ID, but to the phone number associated with your Apple ID. So...at least for BR, I understand you need a physical SIM to activate iMessage. And you can't activate it with an account that hasn't had any phone number associated with it, right? Which would explain my results. I wasn't able to activate it with an old account without 2FA, and with no phone number associated, but I was able to activate it with my new/current account which does have a phone number (and 2FA). So...I'm guessing (and please correct me if I'm wrong), iMessage might fail to activate on the Mac if: you have no phone number/and presumably no iPhone with that phone number associated with the Apple ID your phone number is not on a physical support (physical SIM). This might be BR exclusive, since I don't remember having issues when I tested eSIM. But it's definitely something to remember. and maybe...if you have your phone number associated with multiple Apple IDs. Which might have been the case for me, too... So maybe that's what caused this issue in the first place? I don't know... But weird thing that it coincided with using the new serials. So maybe it wasn't even the serials. Maybe it was just timing. The first one used the same phone number, and I think Apple “recorded” the old ID and it connects without any problem on all my Hacks (the old one), but my files are on the new one. It is also possible that because I use an eSIM, Apple cannot “install” those micro pieces of information that can only be installed on a real physical SIM card — things that only Apple and its mysteries know. And lucky are those who never had to use more than one Apple ID on a single phone. I think this is the problem. So with or without the phone number in the settings, Apple only recognizes one Apple login and keeps the primary record, and the old one used a physical SIM card. On the new one it cannot “send the information” (I think hidden information) to the physical SIM, and it does not allow the login. I read some support discussions from other apps and this seems to be the most likely explanation, also related to whether the network carrier accepts it. Not to mention that I use an iPhone 12 bought in the U.S., which was used, because I don’t pay a lot for a brand-new iPhone hahaha!! Maybe I’ll call Apple again just to ask about this, and try using a physical SIM card. 😉 However, with the caveat that it connects on all my real Macs hahaha. So they would quickly notice that it’s a Hackintosh (any of my Apple IDs connects on a real Mac), whether with the old or the new number, with eSIM or not. 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849271 Share on other sites

So they would quickly notice that it’s a Hackintosh (any of my Apple IDs connects on a real Mac), whether with the old or the new number, with eSIM or not. In theory...and it's only a theory, an eSIM is nothing more than a regular SIM...on an embedded support. So, basically instead of the information being stored on that chip that's glued to that little piece of plastic, it just stores it on an embedded chip inside your phone. As far as I know, it's the exact same information, and it does exactly the same thing: authenticates you on the carrier side. Basically, it just says: "hey, this is user X, requesting to connect to the network. Should I let it in?" So, that's why I'm surprised it doesn't work for you with an eSIM. It sounds strange. Cause...technically, it should be the exact same thing. Not to mention, in the US, newer iPhones only have eSIM. So...definitely Apple knows how to authenticate a user for iMessage when the SIM card is an eSIM. Now, it could be something specific for BR, for sure. Every carrier might have its own particularities. But...I've never heard of this issue before. But yeah, there might be some records somewhere which might tell Apple: "hey, this user already registered on this device, with this phone number. So...if you see a different number, on the same device, don't let him in, cause there might be someone else." So yeah, it could be that, too. But...interestingly enough, on my Apple ID, I can now only use valid serials. With generated ones, it would just refuse to login (iMessage simply closes after a few seconds). I tried it again today. So I know I'm not "delulu". :)) It didn't work. But as soon as I put back my old config, with valid serials: hey, welcome back! :)) Edited April 18 by arsradu 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849272 Share on other sites
Max.1974
:)) Recently I encountered an interesting message when trying to activate iMessage and FaceTime. The system reports that the phone number cannot be used for iMessage or FaceTime and states that a SIM card associated with an Apple device is required in order to use the phone number with those services. However, my phone uses an eSIM rather than a physical SIM card. This raises an interesting possibility. Although eSIM and physical SIM technically store the same types of network information (IMSI, ICCID, authentication keys, etc.), there may still be legacy mechanisms in Apple’s activation systems that historically relied on a physical SIM card when linking a phone number to Apple services. If an Apple ID or phone number was previously associated with a physical SIM, some of that historical information may still exist in Apple’s systems. With eSIM, that information might not be written or handled in exactly the same way by the device or the carrier, yet some validation systems could still expect that older association. In my case, the system interface explicitly indicates that there is no physical SIM card associated with the device, only an eSIM. This could potentially explain why certain Apple IDs or numbers behave normally on real Macs but show different behavior in Hackintosh environments or during iMessage and FaceTime activation. This is not a definitive conclusion, only a technical hypothesis based on the message shown by the system. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849274 Share on other sites
Max.1974
There is also an option to request activation by following Apple’s instructions online. You can submit the request directly to Apple by going to this page: https://apple.co/IMFT-mac On that page you can start the activation process by signing in with your Apple ID and following the instructions. If you use a phone number with iMessage or FaceTime, you can enter that number during the process. Apple will then review the request and notify you by email if the account becomes ready to use with iMessage or FaceTime. arsradu
Yep, that's exactly what I used when, for some reason (could be that the system detected my number associated with a different account, I don't know...), it decided to just break everything. None of my devices would log into iMessage and Facetime anymore. iMessage on my phone would just stay in "activation", and I could only see my phone number in the "addresses" section. Also the option to log into iMessage with an Apple ID was greyed out/inactive. So basically I could only use my phone number, but I couldn't associate the Apple ID so I can use iMessage on other device. So I used exactly that link that you posted above, logged out of the hack, and requested activation for my iPhone. After about 24h, I got an email saying it was activated, and everything went back to normal...except for my hack. And from that moment on, it looks like I can only use iMessage with valid serials. Could be something specific for my account, could be something else. I have no idea. But...these are the results and the conclusions of my tests. :)) If someone has another theory, feel free to share. After all, that's the whole point of this thread. To try to find the issue, and maybe a solution (other than, apparently, using a real mac or real/valid serials). Max.1974
Unfortunately, with technology advancing more and more every day, Apple knows exactly what is a Hack and what is not. They haven't completely shut us down yet because we pay for iCloud and still give them profit. hahaha! 😀 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849277 Share on other sites
arsradu
Most likely. I mean...again, macserials is on github. I doubt they don't know about Clover, or OC, how they work or what they're used for. So yeah, most likely they already know. But yeah, whatever the reason, I am actually grateful. And I already have 4 other real Apple devices, plus iCloud subscription. So yeah, I guess money is still money, no matter where it comes from. :)) Also, since Tahoe is the last version that we'll ever be able to install on Intel (unless they changed their mind in the meantime...but I don't think so), it's not like they'll have to deal with this for too long anyway. So yeah. This has been a very interesting (and profitable) strategy for Apple for years. They don't mind people using their software like this, since they know at some point you will definitely want the real thing, and you'll get one of their other products anyway. Also, that shows how much people actually love their products and their software. :)) And it was definitely true for me. :)) Started with a second-hand iPhone and a hack, ended up with a new M1 MBP, a new iPhone, an iPad, and a pair of AirPods 3, just to top everything up. Plus the hack! :)) They couldn't convince me to buy their watches yet. I still like Huawei watches more than Apple's. They're cheaper, great design, insanely good battery life. But the iOS app (and some of the features) are unfortunately crippled by Apple. I'm just not a big fan of the square design...I prefer the classic, round watches. And Huawei offered what Apple couldn't (great design, great battery life, and super strong materials - mine is a Pro, so titanium and sapphire glass - ) and on a fraction of the cost. So...I couldn't say no to that! But hey, they're still making them, so there's definitely a market for those, as well. I'm just not in it. But yeah, I totally agree with your opinion. Max.1974
Além do hack! Thank you for the words. I’m not really a fan of iMessage, but I was just organizing my accounts and realized that my iPhone is the same for all of them, and both the old and the new Apple ID work on the same phone. So the advantage is that the login for iMessage is different, but it still works fine on the iPhone, so it’s worth it anyway. I use a G-Shock from time to time and I find Apple Watches or similar ones very expensive and ugly. The ones I used in the past were from the brand Citizen and they were very beautiful. I prefer to change my car rather than spend money on something so expensive, and the priorities of my children and my wife are more important. Thank you and good luck. 😆 One detail: when I use iMessage with any of the Apple IDs, the messages will always arrive on the iPhone. They just don’t sync if it isn’t a real Mac, but it’s still worth it—better than nothing. If needed, it will always be the same phone anyway, so it’s not that bad. 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361701-problem-with-imessage-and-face-time-in-tahoe/page/4/#findComment-2849279 Share on other sites
mnfesq
I am stuck with this issue now on my laptop and can't seem to get past it. I use messages many times daily and hate that I can't text typing on a keyboard rather than with thumbs on my phone. I also used it to send photos from my phone to my laptop since Airdrop doesn't work on my laptop either. I tried all of the suggestions in this thread but nothing seems to work, not even Apple telling me that activation is authorized.
