Hi friends,

I am not capable to make by myself a config.plist for my Z370P D3 mobo, for the iMac 20.1 SMBIOS. The models for iMac 20.1 available for OCAT require a 9th Intel generation CPU. Is it someone who could make a config.plist for this combo? Or I should stay stuck with Sequoia? Thank you in advance.

EFI XanthraX.zip

-Delete old EFI folder and paste new then empty trash. Don't use merge files.
-Don't use Drag and Drop into EFI partition. Use Copy/Paste instead.
-Reset NVRAM one time - with OpenCore use entry "Reset Nvram" / with Clover use F11 key on boot screen.

@XanthraX Is it really true that OCAT requires 9th Gen Intel for iMac20,1?  Why would OCAT impose that limit - doesn't make sense.  I don't use OCAT, but if it really is restricting SMBIOS based on CPU, there's something wrong with the tool.

It worked for me thanks

No, it's not like that.
OCAT doesn't impose anything
Even on the most trivial things that are taken for granted. ic005K always leaves the decision up to the user.

When choosing the Smbios for example, indicate the CPUs that could be referenced, but it is not necessary to have that CPU... select the Smbios that you consider most appropriate.

You're right as usual. This build of mine works better with 19,1 but I used MacPro7,1 to install Tahoe and actually I started from usb with 20,1

Btw (maybe off topic) but in my case the best performance is with Sonoma rather than Sequoia.

Ciao

Would this work on a Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X motherboard?

Why don't you try? Put the efi as suggested in a usb pen and start from that.

Thank you both. @deeveedee When need to make a new EFI, OCAT sends you here: https://github.com/5T33Z0/OC-Little-Translated/tree/main/F_Desktop_EFIs/Config_Templates where you find the templates and you can chose the one based on your CPU. Until now, my EFI's worked flawlessly for the rigs I have. For Coffelake they suggest iMac 19.1 or 19.2. I know OCAT let me to change the Mac model and to put everything on the list, but I did not want to risk.

@bluenote56 I will put your EFI on a UBS stick and will try. Thank you both.

Excuse me, but what's the risk if you try to put the generated EFI on USB and see if it boots ? 🙂

Yes, iMac 19.1 or 19.2 is correct for Coffeelake, but if you need to test for Tahoe, you need the "Skip Board ID check" patch in Booter
(I personally use this configuration)
or use a Smbios supported by Tahoe iMac 20.1 or 20.2

Another valid tool for generating an EFI, if you also have Windows installed, is  OpCore-Simplify

Hi all. I did it. It is iMac 20.1 now, but I think it is cosmetic. Apple seems to not recognize my Hack as iMac 20.1. I cannot find Tahoe installer in Software Update, nor in MAS.

The risk it took was to ruin my iCloud account. Now I had to sign up again in iCloud, in Adobe (and to remove the previous "iMac 19.1" from the account). Also in Setapp.com.

Thank you. I use it now. After removing unnecessary kexts and inserting my boot args (agdpmod=pikera and uia_exclude for some USB's)

Hi everyone,

I tried all versions, even an EFI made by me. Nothing works. It stalls only at the Apple logo, without the progress bar. I have to buy a new USB stick. I tried several times with one until even the BIOS not sees it as EFI bootable.

Did you ever make it through a Tahoe installation with either computer? It does sound like your USB stick may have a problem. I have the same CPU and a similar motherboard. I have Tahoe installed with a MacPro7,1 SMBIOS. It should be possible. I am using an EFI from someone else that I modified a little.

Hi, all I got after struggling was booting, but I get a black screen. No panics, no restarts. I attach here my config.plist. I tried to make it for iMac 20.1. I think I cannot get the proper specifications for the Radeon RX 560 video card. Maybe someone more experienced can help me.

What graphic card are you using? Can you send me your config (obviously delete the serials at the "Platform Info" section)?

I tried to make my own OC MacPro 7.1 but I got stalled here... (see image)

You can try this EFI. I consider it to be a work in progress. I have it working on Z390 for Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia, and Tahoe. It is just an EFI I downloaded from this site with a few changes.

https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/1071-asus-prime-z390-a-tahoe-beta/

Notes:

I have been trying out BCMC for Wifi but it is disabled in this config and DisableIOMap is set back to True. I have not tested Ethernet but it should work with this setting. I don't have Realtek Ethernet in the config but the kext is there. I have also removed AppleALC from the config. A Mod is needed to get that working in Tahoe but I use a Sound Blaster Play 3 instead. I have not really resolved USB yet and I have set USBInjectAll to True. I normally run without it. The OS will see my USB 3 without inject but not USB 2. It will sleep if I set it this way. I have WEG disabled and I am using a RX 6600 but my RX 470 also appears to work. Every once-in-a-while it will hang just before getting to the login and I have to restart. It seems to be related to the display card and also seemed to get better by using 2nd display slot. I'm not too positive, really. I took out the Serial #s in the config. There is still stuff left over that I think could be removed. Good luck!

Thank you. I tried my EFI's from the same topic and I tried some changes. It stalls as I showed before. I also tried the iMac 20.1 also. It booted, but I cannot have video. I will try yours now. Thank you.

It stalls here:

"AppleKeyStore" :pid:77,sel:7:7947: unexpected session uid: -1 requested by: bluetoothd (77)

"AppleKeyStore" :pid:77, :13093: operation failed (see: 7 ret: e00002c2, -1)

"AppleKeyStore" :pid:77, :13093: operation failed (see: 7 ret: e00002c2, -1)

I deleted your entry in the device properties and I added my videocard RX 560. I could install it. Now I can boot it with my iMac20.1 EFI, but I have no USB or blutooth. So I have no keyboard or mouse. I keep working. Anyway thank you @Mac Hosehead

Finally it is a success, but it is not yet my main system. I ordered 2 fullmac BCM9360 wifi cards and 2 adapters for them. But I wait for a proper version of OCLP. The now-a-day methods requires SIP ON, but the VoodooHDA requires SIP off (deadlock!). Also, the update to 26.01 needed alternatively 2 EFI's. I hope in the next future it will be the same easy how is actually with Sequoia. Many thanks to all who helped me. Too bad, my MoBo has only one NvME slot. If anyone else needs help with this mobo, I will help.
