I have scoured through thread this but am unable to find the information I need. I just started using NixOS and I don’t have an icon in OpenCore. What is the correct flavor setting for NixOS’s snowflake icon?

To all:

I don't know if is the right place, sorry. I clone my main disk called "Sequoia" to another internal disk called "Clone" on macOS. All is perfect there:  I've changed the names  in finder and disk utility, however opencore bootlicker hasn't changed as well. Is there a way to manually change an entry's name?

Any ideas, please ?

Happy new year 2026 !

@Matgen84

How to update macOS volume name in the OpenCore picker.

OpenCore uses .disk_label file if it exists, otherwise it tries .contentDetails and, if this doesn't exist, it tries .disk_label.contentDetails.

You have 3 possible methods.

1.-

In Terminal: diskutil info / | grep "APFS Volume Group"

  • you get a long string with letters and numbers (e.g. 654436D1-8026-4D83-81DA-942C2FE63961)
  • cd /System/Volumes/Preboot/654436D1-8026-4D83-81DA-942C2FE63961/System/Library/CoreServices/
  • sudo bless --folder . --label "NOMBRE" where NOMBRE is the name you want to be applied
  • reboot.

To check, in Terminal, one of these commands:

cd /System/Volumes/Preboot/654436D1-8026-4D83-81DA-942C2FE63961/System/Library/CoreServices/
pico .disk_label.contentDetails

or

printf "NOMBRE" | sudo tee .disk_label.contentDetails; echo sudo chgrp wheel .disk*

2.-

  • SIP disabled
  • mount Preboot volume from Terminal (I'm not sure if that this is required, I see Preboot volume without mounting it but other users have had to mount that volume)
  • sudo pico /System/Volumes/Preboot/UUID-number/System/Library/CoreServices/.contentDetails and /System/Volumes/Preboot/UUID-number/System/Library/CoreServices/.disk_label.contentDetails (hidden file)
  • change the volume name to anything else (plain text, make it simple)
  • reboot.

Note: UUID-number is the UUID of the APFS volume group where Preboot volume is located, you can do "diskutil list" and "diskutil info diskx" where diskx is the APFS Container Scheme.

3.-

Install or reinstall Intel Power Gadget and reboot.

Hi @miliuco Thanks for your guide. @deeveedee has also pointed your method in Opencore Discussion Thread.

OFF-Topic: to clone with SuperDuper for example,  an OCLP root patched volume, revert patches is necessary. Edit Volume name in .disk_label.contentDetails, each time after cloning : that's the question !

Happy New year 😊
