semthex
Yeah semthex, but he only wanted the "best" for us...He just wanted to help! Sure the ppl should be more carefull. Apple is watching this place of course!! This is the #1 community in getting OS X to run on normal PCs The whole thing is headless and it is worth to think about some things before doing them. This #1 community won't last for long anymore if things like this continue.
AppleLegal
why doesnt apple care about pics and vid and other things involved wit 10.4.8. why do they care so much about leopard? Leopard = New. Tiger = old. And saying Apple doesnt care is wrong - if they didnt care, osx86p and win2osx would never have been served DMCA notices. Anything to do with leopard right now will only do more harm then good. Examine it on your own in private if you wish, but posting findings publically is not a good idea. amalgam
This might have an impact on the whole community. We should avoid hacking any betas at all cost [thats my case]. We need to respect apple as well ! I cannot for the life of me understand how you folks can claim that hacking a leopard beta is any more or less "respectful" to Apple than hacking an "official" release. Every version before 10.4.4 was hacked on & discussed in here - NONE WERE "OFFICIAL" releases. Now if there are some of you "in the know" who have been given a secret wink-wink from Apple as to what they'll allow, then it's not very fair to be bashing on others who haven't been given that info. Semthex has suggested that revealing successful hacks to Leopard betas makes it easier for Apple to build a harder to crack final release, and that is true. But noone here has shown that there is anything being done differently in the betas (to prevent cracking)than what is currently "official", so it does apply (yet). It only appears to me that this forum still tends to develop little cliques - if you are one, it's Ok, if you are not - then woe onto you. This forum (excuse me, "community") came to exist out of a common interest in running an Apple OS on non-Apple hardware. It's what hackers do, no other justification is needed. Period. If that has changed, then somebody has done a miserable job of defining what the heck is going on.
Hagar
Apple has always been jealous about it's pre-release software, and lets not forget that this community has been hit with legal action before.. It's not a question of getting a wink from apple, just take a look at what they have gone after in the past, and it is abundantly clear what they are & are not willing to tolerate. amalgam- your post smacks of paranoia. you refer to the posting of a fellow user as "you folks" & talk of "little cliques". If you feel you are on the outside looking in, maybe that is what you need to adress. This community is always open to productive contributions. bgrau
amalgam, the fact of the matter is Apple has gone after those who distribute Leo hacks, so your theory has no leg to stand on. Besides Leo is in non-public beta release. Apple feel that their bottom line gets hurt when it is made widely available as it destroys the element of surprise, which is one of the most important marketing strategy to get maximum number of first sales. I must remind you that hackers are not there to hurt others... Greetings
kismus
The hackintosh does not put damage to business Apple! I hope, that analysts of the company understand it. Work of Russian community of the Hackintosh advertises all production Apple. Advanced PC-user can try Mac OS X and advise the friends to acquire it. No other effective advertising Apple in Russia is present. Sales of production of company Apple are magnified in Russia It despite of unfair prices. The price for the Macintosh in Russia is 150-200 % from the price in the USA It is discrimination! Apple could magnify sales in Russia at 10-20 time if sold the Macintosh at the price of the USA. To purchase on a unfair price in Russia it is considered "zapadloo" (this Russian national word - means - incorrectly). Apple could organize manufacturing of computers Mac in Russia. The community of Russian hackers would help the company with this business.
rognvaldr
@Kismus: I think Apple would weigh it's options carefully. Russia has shown itself not to be a reliable country to do business in. Maybe when Putin's gone and Russia no longer interferes with business by forcing them to hand over majority stakes into Russian hands (Gazprom/Shell, foreign banks, countless other examples, even churches and charity) as soon as business becomes 'too successful'. If I were at the helm of Apple, I wouldn't venture into Russia as long as fair business is not allowed. Until then, the Russian government is not acting in Russia's best interest. Plaid
is it really necessary to get Leopard hacked..? I mean, it's still beta and there is a long way for it to be a mature OS. Imo, first, we need to handle those annoying driver (kext) problems for sound, graphics, ethernet, wireless and bluetooth etc. But, anyway, that's a good news too Edited January 9, 2007 by Plaid
