Google "Enabling HD 3000 graphics on 7-series motherboards". You will need to prepare an installer USB using the old "restore BaseSystem.dmg" method, not createinstallmedia. That is interesting, I've used the latest three versions I could find, however I used an old version from a 3 year old boot stick I made for my desktop once (just for testing) , I also used the last release of a 32bit loader. Nevertheless, I'll try the latest version and also look into modifying AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext and AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext. Thank you for the latter, after constant reading up on this I had a feeling I'd have to do this, but I was curious how to do it with an installer USB. Closest SMBIOS for your hardware is probably MacBookPro8,1 (late 2011, i5 SandyBridge 2435M with HD3000 graphics) ---> OK for Sierra & High Sierra. If you want to try the latest macOS Mojave, you can try with MacBookPro9,2 SMBIOS (mid 2012, IvyBridge i5 3210M with HD4000 graphics). This would require adding Sierra kexts for HD3000 for full QE/CI graphics acceleration . On 8/16/2018 at 4:10 PM, Jiji The Fox said: I've tried MacBook 8,1 and also 14,2 and the error is still there. (On a tangent : I have also tried the latest version of Clover, still black screen, no verbose. Raised a ticket on sourceforge, hoping to see if any of the devs can discuss.) Chameleon Wizard should be OK to generate a valid MBP8,1 SMBIOS.plist, but is it being saved in the correct location? Spoiler Make sure there is only one /Extra folder in your system (any other hfs or EFI volumes or disks with /Extra?. Look for stray SMBIOS.plist using MBP4,1). May want to check boot log (bdmesg) to see if correct /Extra/SMBIOS.plist is being used. Personally, I haven't used Chameleon for a few years and prefer Clover. Did you try with @Rehabman's config_HD3000_1366x768_7series.plist ---> rename config.plist and place in /EFI/EFI/CLOVER? Did you try UEFI with/without CSM &/or legacy? At Clover Main Menu, did you select the installer USB with arrow keys and press <spacebar> to access verbose mode in the submenu...? Spoiler Maybe try booting with attached Clover r4649.pkg (compiled with gcc, official builds on SourceForge are compiled with XCODE8). Check the SHA1 checksum of your downloaded "Install macOS Sierra.app" at this website. You can actually make a patched installer USB that will allow installation with MBP4,1 SMBIOS with @dosdude 's macOS Sierra Patch Tool. 17 hours ago, JijiTheFox said: With the Patched Installer + Enoch, I can get into Installer and Begin installation. Erase and reformat target drive as GUID, macOS extended/journaled in Disk Utility. To be safe, reformat & remake your installer on different USB or separate partition on hard drive (approx 10GB). I've tried countless USB Sticks and Hard drivess, BIOS configs, with/without hard drive. Reset BIOS, update BIOS, reset CMOS. I've looked and asked into this system hang on a few forums and subreddits, and I did try to add a support ticket over on Sourceforge regarding the system hang, if it's a bug or a config issue. Unfortunately support is not something they specialise in, I think Enoch is better to focus on. It's most likely due to me not using createinstall media as I needed to change AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext and AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext to work with my Sandy Bridge / Series 7 combination. I'm looking at the Sierra Patch Tool, I can't get into using it until tonight (busy weekend), however, if this using createinstallmedia, I'll might be pushed back a step. JijiTheFox
Hi All, Following the extra update to the BIOS I forgot to try legacy Clover again. This time around it worked! I have reached verbose! I'm currently on the vanilla (CreateInstallMedia method) Sierra installer hoping it goes through smoothly! Thank you everyone for your help, will update when there's more news! If this helps anyone in the future, I've gotten this far with the attached Clover setup, I've had to boot in safe mode to avoid a busy timeout IGPU error. CLOVER.zip UPDATE: INSTALL WAS A SUCCESS! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP. I was dead close to getting rid of this laptop. I was losing the will to keep going. I'm going to start a post-install thread soon to try and comb out the lovely boot errors I have now. macadventure
I am also struggling to get to the install screen. I can boot from the UEFI usb and it reaches VoodooPS2Mouse: After a few seconds the screen gets garbled with the prohibited sign. I can see that it was trying to get the root device. I am attaching my DSDT to this post for help from /CLOVER/Extra folder. Is this in the right place? DSDT.aml DumpLog.txt
