SavageAUS
Unsure if this has been asked and or answered before but i've been using iMac17,1 on my desktop machine (in signature) since well forever. Would my machine be more like an iMac or macPro? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/332017-imac171-vs-macpro61-smbios/ Share on other sites
Cyberdevs
Your machine will be more like an iMac 17,1 because it's the only apple product with the Skylake Processor and is built on the 100 series chipset and Mac Pro's are based on Intel Xeon processors. MacPro uses LGA2011 socket architecture and iMac 17,1 uses LGA 1151 Socket processors. 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/332017-imac171-vs-macpro61-smbios/#findComment-2577175 Share on other sites
Gigamaxx
IMac 17.1 definition worked well for sky lake in Sierra but Sierra 12.6 brought some issues and High Sierra as well. I changed my sky lake rig to iMac 18.2 definition due to igfx/IGPU bug issues. There are various fixes to keep skylake 17.1 definitions but I like to keep my setups to a simple minimum fix so it’s easier to replicate and update. Kabylake or iMac 18 series boards are very close to skylake they are Basically just overclocked versions of the same architecture 14nm so I haven’t noticed any issues using the 18.2 definition everything seems to work and is actually less buggy than when I use the 17.1 as far as updates go. I do updates about once a week in the beta program so it’s easier for me to keep it simple. Cyberdevs
I used iMac18,3 for a couple of weeks and the only thing that I noticed was the speed steps which were either 800MHz or 4GHz and nothing in between. But when I switched back to iMac17,1 I have all the steps working 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/332017-imac171-vs-macpro61-smbios/#findComment-2577557 Share on other sites
