Hi all,

Got a Dell Optiplex 990(small form factor desktop) which I managed to install Sierra on.

The onboard intel 2000 graphics card works but there's no video acceleration or anything.

Was looking into buying a low profile card for my install. As the power supply is only 240W, and the PCIE x16 slot only gives out 35W max, is there any compatible cards out there I could buy?

Many thanks

Thanks again, Herve!

I shall purchase a GT610 then, and give it a go. :)

As the 610 is discontinued, am I better off with a 2gb 710?

Greetings Insanely Mac community.

I recently acquired an Optiplex 9020 SFF, (Haswell 4790, stock) and have ordered a GTX 1050ti 4gb.

If you google "Elsa 1050ti" you'll find it.

You can get it from Amazon Japan. Its single slot, half height. Edit. Its single slot, FULL HEIGHT. (Beginner here). I got one from Amzne Jp. Oh well, future build?

There IS a single slot/half height, 1050 ti, Battle Flag from "ASL" in China.

I have that on order. too  (Helps if you speak Cantonese and can navigate A Barber shop).

This is my first hack, so I... have a bit of reading to do. - Just did a first second read through of the ACPI spec, et al.

Thanks again, Herve!

I recently tested the gt 710, gt210, and 8400gs all Nvidia cards, they all worked oob, I kept the gt210 as it was the cheapest and I'm only using for a helper card for my AMd RX 480. I was able to get metal supported status on the gt710 at one point with the RX 480 having full metal support. I have an AMD 5450 but the support is getting shaky for this card in sierra 12.4-12.5. There are a few people having problems getting them to work well since the last two updates. All three Nvidia cards worked well oob though.

I am using the GT-710 in both of my hackintoshes. Works OOB indeed, depending on which SMBIOS you are using. I was using imac10,1 in which the card used to work fine, but that doesn't work anymore since 10.12.5. I am currently using MacPro3,1... no problems at all.

I also used a Radeon HD6450 which also worked OOB.

Well, The 750TI, 1050 and 1050TI has a dual-slot cooler which imo makes it hard to put it in a LP case.

They would not fit in my Dell Optiplex 755, nor in my NEC Powermate VL280. Which is a shame, since otherwise I'd have got one of these instead

Where did you got the Battle Flag from? I can't find it online

p.s You'll see in the comparison pic, there is, also, a single slot - full height - 1050ti.

It's from "Elsa", and is available online, Japan Amazon.

Although, its no good for our "SFF" rigs.

As I discovered, the hard way

I googled your cases. To fit the cards in, you can remove the fans actually, since they don't run anyways if you don't play games. I also believe your office has AC, right?

BTW, the latest NV driver supports 1030 now. I found a post about it on a certain x86 dot com

The 1050ti, ss, 1/2 height is more readily available now.

1050ti - Single Slot - Half Height Card - Direct order

Its not cheap.

On the windows side, my son plays Fortnite at 1080p at very smooth 60fps.

View distance - Epic - Everything else "medium" to low.

I use a number of low profile passive cooled graphics cards in my HP Microserver hacks.

  • Asus Radeon HD 5450 1GB - This requires a SSDT to work at its optimum under Sierra and High Sierra - see attachedSSDT-GFX0 zip.  The SSDT was downloaded from a post by another forum member on this site.  You would also need to use the Eulemur Framebuffer, ATI Inject and a FakeID (0x68E01002) in Clover config.
  • Asus Radeon HD 6450 1 GB &
  • Asus Radeon HD 6450 2GB.

The two HD 6450's work out of the box in Sierra & High Sierra but require the AMD drivers from High Sierra 10.13.6 to work in Mojave.  Screenshot below showing Graphics card system information for the 2GB HD 6450 working under Sierra, using Pithecia framebuffer and with ATI inject selected in Clover.  I would assume that the other cards shown on the report screen, HD 7450/8450 & R5 230 would also work.

The HD 5450 is glitchy under Mojave even with copying the AMD drivers from High Sierra.

None of these cards require additional power and work just fine with a 150W and 200W PSU.

How do you get your Radeon 6450 to work?? I tried EVERYTHING for High Sierra and I can't get it to work. I'm almost at the point of giving up. I've already replaced those 4 Kexts from Sierra, tried Lilu + Whatever. I'm over the black screen issue now but I want it to have full acceleration.. Please help me.. :(
