I installed the 10.4.8 without support for ATI checked... everything is fine.

Then i installed Boris Latest 3.5 Package Installer...

My card is PCIe Sapphire X1600 PRO 512

ID = 0x71c2

Reboot... after the grey loading screen, black screen, nothing!

Try in safe mode, same thing...cannot boot at all iin GUI mode.

Uninstall, everything come back to normal.

Ok, said to myself, do it manually...don't have the lines you talk about in my ATINDRV.kext???

Can somebody help please!

Also, i tried Boris with AGP option checked just to see... well it boot, now i have QE and everything enabled but no Resolution change and i have mouse artifacts.

Try to install the AGP fix, even though yours is PCIe.

Below is the result of booting with 10.4.8 mifki kernel, and 3.5 installer, in SAFE MODE.

trying AGP fix now.

With AGP fix, it hangs on loginwindow

I believe this was from a safe mode boot with AGP fix.

I have a sapphire x1600pro Crossfire edition and I've been having the same problem with the jas 10.4.8 dvd...I install with x1600 support and if I boot with -v i can get to a blue screen with no mouse...if i boot without the -v I get the "you must restart your pc" screen...i just figured it was my card because I pulled it out and I tried with my onboard gma950 and its working fine....damn...this card was working great in 10.4.7 I might just have to go back to the old kernel for the sake of my card....

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a similar problem. But I installed the ATI PCIe drivers from the DVD.

My original sapphire x1600xt (PCIe) died and I bought a new one. This just gave me garbage on the screen. After some investigation I discovered that the new card had a newer bios on it. I then re-flashed it with the older bios and it started to work.

The new bios is p/n 11x5c8801SA-009

What you need on the x1600xt PCIe is this one p/n 11x5c8801SA-008

P.S. You may have to flash in dos mode as I found it would not use the windows utility, plus you need to force it to flash the card, cannot remmeber the exact commands but I remember -amtel as one of the parameters.

Hope this helps.

try the 2nd port guys.

if your monitor is connected to primary port then try secondary port to see if is works.

my old x1600xt has dvi port and vga secondary port. osx doesnt want to go past the apple grey screen with monitor connected to dvi primary port. after i change to vga port, osx load prefectly.
