I'm at a stopping point on my Sierra installation.

Important system info:

  • Gigabyte x58-UD3R v2.0 FH
  • OCZ Vertex 3 SSD - Plugged into port 0
  • BIOS set to optimized defaults (see attached files)
  • Using ##### / clover set to legacy mode

What's happening / the steps:

  • I boot from USB stick to Sierra installer
  • I can see the SSD and format it
  • I install Sierra on the SSD
  • I reboot from USB
  • I do not see SSD as an option on the screen for the second phase of completing the installation of Sierra from the SSD (see attached image)

What I have done:

  • Plugged drive in every port
  • Installed Clover to a new USB stick with a variety of settings / themes
  • Attempted multiple configurations using Clover Configurator

I don't know what else I need to do to complete the installation and install a bootloader on the SSD. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you.

Hello, and welcome at InsanelyMac  :)

Maybe is a problem in the installer itself.

We don't know how Tonymac tools works, read here why:

VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ! (ABOUT TONYMACX86 AND iATKOS M / Y)

Why InsanelyMac does not support tonymacx86

But, if you want 100% support, you can use our methods.

Making a 10.10/10.11 USB Installer /w Clover (UEFI and Legacy) the correct way!

Alrighty! I used the guide described above. I'll give it another go and post questions from the guide perspective.

I'm running multiple SSDs on my X58a-UD7. You just have to be sure that you install Clover for a legacy boot (make sure it updates the MBR when you install it.)

Make sure that all the drive ports in the bios are set to AHCI (very important.)
