rc4g
OSX 10.10.4 on VMWare Workstation 11.1.2 (hardware 11) Unlocker 2.06 This VM was originally built on VMWare Workstation 10 / Unlocker 1.30 and I started experiencing the resolution issue after the Apple update to 10.10.4. I upgraded to VMWare workstation 11 with the hope that its native support for more guest video memory might address the problem. Updated VM boots fine and is fully functional except for the video issue. No matter whether using "use host settings" or specific display resolution configuration I cannot get the VM to recognize more than 128MB display memory and the display option within OSX is locked at 1024x768. Here is current VMX file where resolution was set to 1920x1080 and 512MB RAM (I manually modified VRAMSIZE to 512MB to match): .encoding = "windows-1252"config.version = "8"virtualHW.version = "11"numvcpus = "4"cpuid.coresPerSocket = "2"scsi0.present = "TRUE"scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"sata0.present = "TRUE"memsize = "8192"sata0:0.present = "TRUE"sata0:0.fileName = "Mac OS X Yosemite.vmdk"sata0:1.present = "TRUE"sata0:1.autodetect = "TRUE"sata0:1.deviceType = "cdrom-image"ethernet0.present = "TRUE"ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000e"ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE"ethernet0.addressType = "generated"usb.present = "TRUE"ehci.present = "TRUE"ehci.pciSlotNumber = "34"sound.present = "TRUE"sound.virtualDev = "hdaudio"sound.fileName = "-1"sound.autodetect = "TRUE"pciBridge0.present = "TRUE"pciBridge4.present = "TRUE"pciBridge4.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge4.functions = "8"pciBridge5.present = "TRUE"pciBridge5.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge5.functions = "8"pciBridge6.present = "TRUE"pciBridge6.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge6.functions = "8"pciBridge7.present = "TRUE"pciBridge7.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge7.functions = "8"vmci0.present = "TRUE"smc.present = "TRUE"hpet0.present = "TRUE"ich7m.present = "TRUE"usb.vbluetooth.startConnected = "TRUE"board-id.reflectHost = "TRUE"firmware = "efi"displayName = "Mac OS X Yosemite - AD"guestOS = "darwin14-64"nvram = "Mac OS X Yosemite.nvram"virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted"powerType.powerOff = "soft"powerType.powerOn = "soft"powerType.suspend = "soft"powerType.reset = "soft"extendedConfigFile = "Mac OS X Yosemite.vmxf"gui.lastPoweredViewMode = "fullscreen"uuid.bios = "56 4d 62 fd 63 42 bd f1-a4 87 80 a2 58 d5 e9 f3"uuid.location = "56 4d 62 fd 63 42 bd f1-a4 87 80 a2 58 d5 e9 f3"replay.supported = "FALSE"replay.filename = ""sata0:0.redo = ""pciBridge0.pciSlotNumber = "17"pciBridge4.pciSlotNumber = "21"pciBridge5.pciSlotNumber = "22"pciBridge6.pciSlotNumber = "23"pciBridge7.pciSlotNumber = "24"scsi0.pciSlotNumber = "16"usb.pciSlotNumber = "32"ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "160"sound.pciSlotNumber = "33"vmci0.pciSlotNumber = "35"sata0.pciSlotNumber = "36"ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:d5:e9:f3"ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0"vmci0.id = "-534598329"monitor.phys_bits_used = "42"vmotion.checkpointFBSize = "33554432"cleanShutdown = "TRUE"softPowerOff = "TRUE"usb:1.speed = "2"usb:1.present = "TRUE"usb:1.deviceType = "hub"usb:1.port = "1"usb:1.parent = "-1"toolsInstallManager.updateCounter = "48"usb.autoConnect.device0 = ""sata0:1.fileName = "C:\Users\gsalisbury\Downloads\com.vmware.fusion.tools.darwin.zip\payload\darwin.iso"tools.syncTime = "TRUE"isolation.tools.hgfs.disable = "TRUE"sharedFolder0.present = "TRUE"sharedFolder0.enabled = "TRUE"sharedFolder0.readAccess = "TRUE"sharedFolder0.writeAccess = "TRUE"sharedFolder0.hostPath = "C:\Users\gsalisbury"sharedFolder0.guestName = "GSalisbury"sharedFolder0.expiration = "session"sharedFolder.maxNum = "2"mks.keyboardFilter = "allow"workingDir = "."templateVM = "FALSE"annotation = "Yosemite 10.10.2|0D|0ACentrify client, SEP for MAC installed.|0D|0A"tools.remindInstall = "FALSE"sharedFolder1.present = "TRUE"sharedFolder1.enabled = "TRUE"sharedFolder1.readAccess = "TRUE"sharedFolder1.writeAccess = "TRUE"sharedFolder1.hostPath = "C:\"sharedFolder1.guestName = "7440-C"sharedFolder1.expiration = "never"mks.enable3d = "TRUE"gui.exitOnCLIHLT = "FALSE"usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"svga.autodetect = "FALSE"migrate.hostlog = ".\Mac OS X Yosemite-3ec85d2d.hlog"svga.graphicsMemoryKB = "524288"vmotion.checkpointSVGAPrimarySize = "33554432"smc.version = 0usb:0.present = "TRUE"usb:0.deviceType = "hid"usb:0.port = "0"usb:0.parent = "-1"svga.maxWidth = "1920"svga.maxHeight = "1080"svga.vramSize = "536870912"usb_xhci.present = "FALSE"floppy0.present = "FALSE" What am I missing? spakk
I do not use VMware but look here, this user has no problems, it uses Workstation 11.1.2 and Vmware Unlocker v. 2.0 *to everything else he writes, I dissociate myself. rc4g
I appreciate the input but really wasn't wanting to rebuild the entire VM from scratch. As I stated before the VM is fully functional except for being able to set the video resolution and VRAM size manually. rc4g
OK, rebuilt brand new VM from scratch and have the exact same issue, display is still locked within OS at 1024x768 and video memory is at 128MB even with the following configuration: .encoding = "windows-1252"config.version = "8"virtualHW.version = "11"numvcpus = "4"cpuid.coresPerSocket = "2"scsi0.present = "TRUE"scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"sata0.present = "TRUE"memsize = "8192"sata0:0.present = "TRUE"sata0:0.fileName = "Yosemite.vmdk"sata0:1.present = "TRUE"sata0:1.fileName = "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\darwin.iso"sata0:1.deviceType = "cdrom-image"ethernet0.present = "TRUE"ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000e"ethernet0.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE"ethernet0.addressType = "generated"usb.present = "TRUE"ehci.present = "TRUE"ehci.pciSlotNumber = "34"usb_xhci.present = "TRUE"sound.present = "TRUE"sound.virtualDev = "hdaudio"sound.fileName = "-1"sound.autodetect = "TRUE"pciBridge0.present = "TRUE"pciBridge4.present = "TRUE"pciBridge4.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge4.functions = "8"pciBridge5.present = "TRUE"pciBridge5.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge5.functions = "8"pciBridge6.present = "TRUE"pciBridge6.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge6.functions = "8"pciBridge7.present = "TRUE"pciBridge7.virtualDev = "pcieRootPort"pciBridge7.functions = "8"vmci0.present = "TRUE"smc.present = "TRUE"hpet0.present = "TRUE"ich7m.present = "TRUE"usb.vbluetooth.startConnected = "TRUE"board-id.reflectHost = "TRUE"firmware = "efi"displayName = "Yosemite"guestOS = "darwin13-64"nvram = "Yosemite.nvram"virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted"powerType.powerOff = "soft"powerType.powerOn = "soft"powerType.suspend = "soft"powerType.reset = "soft"extendedConfigFile = "Yosemite.vmxf"uuid.bios = "56 4d a1 6e df 48 e0 ac-a7 f2 39 b7 93 f9 9e 0f"uuid.location = "56 4d a1 6e df 48 e0 ac-a7 f2 39 b7 93 f9 9e 0f"replay.supported = "FALSE"replay.filename = ""migrate.hostlog = ".\Yosemite-5dcb4cf5.hlog"sata0:0.redo = ""pciBridge0.pciSlotNumber = "17"pciBridge4.pciSlotNumber = "21"pciBridge5.pciSlotNumber = "22"pciBridge6.pciSlotNumber = "23"pciBridge7.pciSlotNumber = "24"scsi0.pciSlotNumber = "16"usb.pciSlotNumber = "32"ethernet0.pciSlotNumber = "160"sound.pciSlotNumber = "33"usb_xhci.pciSlotNumber = "192"vmci0.pciSlotNumber = "35"sata0.pciSlotNumber = "36"ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:f9:9e:0f"ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0"vmci0.id = "-1812357617"monitor.phys_bits_used = "42"vmotion.checkpointFBSize = "134217728"vmotion.checkpointSVGAPrimarySize = "134217728"cleanShutdown = "FALSE"softPowerOff = "FALSE"smc.version = 0usb_xhci:6.speed = "2"usb_xhci:6.present = "TRUE"usb_xhci:6.deviceType = "hub"usb_xhci:6.port = "6"usb_xhci:6.parent = "-1"usb_xhci:7.speed = "4"usb_xhci:7.present = "TRUE"usb_xhci:7.deviceType = "hub"usb_xhci:7.port = "7"usb_xhci:7.parent = "-1"toolsInstallManager.updateCounter = "6"tools.syncTime = "FALSE"svga.autodetect = "FALSE"svga.maxWidth = "1600"svga.maxHeight = "1200"svga.vramSize = "134217728"workingDir = "."mks.enable3d = "TRUE"svga.graphicsMemoryKB = "524288"floppy0.present = "FALSE"usb_xhci:4.present = "TRUE"usb_xhci:4.deviceType = "hid"usb_xhci:4.port = "4"usb_xhci:4.parent = "-1" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307474-video-memory-resolution-issue/#findComment-2158944 Share on other sites
rc4g
Has anyone been successful building a new 10.10.4 Yosemite VM on top of VMWare Workstation 11 with Unlocker 2.06 and been able to change the video display resolution to anything other than 1024x768 ??? Donk
Have a look at this thread on VMware forums. Explains the issues. https://communities.vmware.com/thread/466947?start=30&tstart=0 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307474-video-memory-resolution-issue/#findComment-2159232 Share on other sites
rc4g
Thanks for the response Donk. The video sizing issue was caused due to a View/Autosize setting in Workstation being out of whack. I've set it correctly so the resolution issue is resolved. My question in both threads was about an apparent incompatibility with a IPTV streaming client that runs fine on MAC hardware but not in a VM. I have the issue opened up with the vendor who is researching whether their client REQUIRES hardware acceleration or not. I think they may have a minimum video RAM size issue as well based on how the client "fails" when attempting streaming from a multicast source. aphex6b
is it possible to do 4K in a mac os x guest under ESXi? can only get it to do 2560x1600 .. Working fine in workstation tested mac os x Snow Leopard server and even that does 3840x2160 60hz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307474-video-memory-resolution-issue/#findComment-2159773 Share on other sites

Jesby
I ran into a similar problem. Maybe anyone got an idea on this issue ? Host: Win7 Pro, VMWare WS 12 Guest: Yosemite, darwin.iso VM tools of V8.0 installed I can get a resolution up to 2560x1600 but no 4k (3840x2160) is available. In config the guest is fixed to center, the monitor resolution is defined to 3840x2160. But no chance to reach this resolution with native Mac OS X preferences or with SwitchResX. With other guests the 4k resolution is possible. Any ideas ? Jesby
Found the solution... Had to uninstall the old VMSVGA2 driver by the uninstall script (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vmsvga2/files/?source=navbar). After deinstall it was possible to install the new display driver via darwin.iso V8.0. Now the VM runs with "Display 128 M" and the guest is able to switch to the host resolution of 4k in full screen mode. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307474-video-memory-resolution-issue/#findComment-2171116 Share on other sites
