Finished downloading JaS's 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel SSE3.

Immediately unzipped it in my MacOSX 10.4.7 and extracted a .pkg file.

Double clicked on the .pkg file and an installer pops up.

Installed successfully without any warnings or errors and it asks me to restart computer.

After restarting the computer, it hangs right at the blue screen that appears after the gray apple screen, the progress bar never moved.

Then I started it in verbose mode, found that it stopped at the line:

AppleIntelPIIXPATA: PIIX4 (CMD 0x170, CTR 0x374, IRQ 15, BM 0x1058)

I think that's something related to the ATA driver.. it seems that the updated ATA driver isn't reading my SATA harddisk now while the old 10.4.7 one does. (But does that really matter? I'm running it on VMWare, so it must be able to detect my harddisk anyway, right?) I hope it is not the case, but please, help me to clarify this.

Please help, and please refer to my screenshots below. thanks!

P.S. I'm previously using JaS's 10.4.7 repack, which worked perfectly well under VMWare.

[all processes above were conducted under the VMware environment]

(To JaS: Sorry JaS, I don't mean to pick any mistake out of your hard work or to embarrass you.. I only intend to reveal the issue i'm having and ask for help. So, if you see this thread, please kindly give me a few advice. Thanks so much!)

Cheers,

Leo

If you get an error with intel sse3 where you can't get past the blue screen just do this

boot up -v -f -s then type in

mount -uw /

mv /system/library/exrensions/r2d2.kext /system/library/extensions/

that will fix the error with he blue screen For those of you that are not updating from my 10.4.7.

If you already have my 10.4.7 installed you wont get this problem.

I built and released 4 updates at once for everyone,so give me a brake about the mistake please.

it is a lot of work.

Thank you JaS! They all work quick and fine now. Thank you, and take care.

Hello Jas,

of course I understand that you can make some mistakes. It's completely normal. It happens to everyone. :-) Your work is great, BTW.

I did your recommendations with blue screen. It helped, but partially. I did following:

Logged as you wrote -v -f -s

then command mount and the last move command. And probably right after "move" command I did something wrong. I am pretty familiar with Unix commands and my habit is type "exit" in the end of my work in Terminal window.

Once I typed it, system continued with booting. I didn't know it, otherwise I would simple restart. During the boot process I saw that r2d2.kext is loaded, so missing kext is on right place now.

And here is the problem itself. I don't know, what happend, but I can see my desktop only in two colors (blue and black). Mouse and probably everything else is working correctly, but display not. I have integrated graphic card GMA950 by Intel. All the time I had Core Image and Quarz Extreme supported and I've never faced any problems with my graphic card in any Mac OS version - starting 10.4.4.

I tried to boot with -x and it works. I can get to my desktop, I have my resolution, but in System Profiler I see no CI and QE and also few stuff is not working in Safe mode, e. g. SpotLight? at least on my desktop.

Do you have any idea, what could be wrong? Or does exist way to go back to version 10.4.7, which worked almost perfectly?

My system - Intel D 930, 2 GB A-DATA 667 MHz Memory, few sata harddrives (all work fine), mentioned GMA950 nad my motherboard is Asus P5LD2-V.

Thank you very much.

Martin

I do not have a GMA card, but an ATI x1600, I have blue then black screen at boot-up with mouse pointer.

The move to correct place r2d2.kext did not fix the graphics...

So I can access the hard disk from vmware in xp, I re-installed with Pacifist the JaS ATI support (similar to the GMA card fix then)...

Will reboot and see :D

It worked, I am now in gui and writing these words :D

I had 10.4.8 before from jas delta, I wanted to see if this combo will fix these:

About with correct cpu = Nope

Safe mode booting in gui = still Nope...

worth the try,

and thank you again to JaS for the effort...

Looking forward to a new kernel :D

Guedes Jr, I think it is possible to install a package from command line, you need the JaS 10.4.7 ATI patch in packages folder of JaS 10.4.7 DVD.

My method: I already have a macosx vmware virtual machine, I add hard disk the one that contains physical macosx, and then boot up so I have access to it, then install to it with pacifist, repair permission etc...

but it works

hi thank for you reply, i will try this.

but i dont have a vmwere intaled, is i install i can use with may mac os hd?

[]'s

You can boot your os x install with the -F -v -x flags and get to the desktop to fix your gfx issue.

Safe boot will get you into your desktop to make changed to the system.

am having trouble after installing the combo on top of JaS' delta 10.4.7. (what a mistake!)

i cannot get past the blue screen with boot progress. argh! if i boot with -v it just keeps going through r2d2...

-x does the same thing. no gui.

any help please?

I have another problem while booting my OSX.

My PC specs:

-Asus P5LD2-Deluxe

-1st HD on PRI-IDE: 120gig Maxtor with Windows XP Prof SP2 (2 partitions) -Master

Samsung WriteMaster -Slave

-2nd HD on S-ATA (Master) 200gig Samsung SP2004C with JaS 10.4.7 (working until now!!)

-Geforce 4 MX 4000 (PCI card, working with MacVidia 1.0.7)

-512 PC533 Ram

-Apple Pro keybrd and mouse

Well...I installed the JaS 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel SSE3 this morning. Before that, I had JaS 10.4.7 running without any conflict.

If I want to boot, OSX presents me this on the screen:

....beginnig here with the MacVidia drivers....

NV: MacVidia Driver Version 1.0.7

NV: CRT Monitor Detected On Output: A

Apple 16x50ACPI1: Identified Serial Port On ACPI Device=UAR1

Apple 16x50UARTSync1: Detected 16550AF/C/CF FIFO=16 MaxBaud=115200

pci8086,27d8: family specific matching fails

Oct 19 12:07:45 kextd[31]: kextd_watch_volumes: couldn't set up diskarb sessions

AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH7 ATA/100 (CMD 0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ 14, BM 0xffa0)

WARNING: ATA Drive claims FLUSH CACHE EXT feature support but does not claim Extended LBA feature support

AppleIntelPIIXPATA: 80-conductor cable not detected on primary channel

...end....here it hangs....

So, first I tried the Blue Screen fix JaS mentioned, but here the RSD2.kext can't be loaded (this is also written while OSX is booting).

If I doing the fix it continues booting until it hangs with my Marvell Miniport ethernet driver (there is written yukonosx, so I think its the one because under XP it calls the adapter Yukon too).

Now really f*#§"ed up is that my Ethernet adapter won't be regocnized under XP anymore...I tried everything to get it working again. Nothing helps.

MacDrive 6.1.5 warns me under XP that it sets my OSX HD to read-only because of an system failure and say I should re-install OSX on this disk.

Please let me know how I can fix the booting under OSX or what else I have to turn off in the MoBos BIOS (Ethernet, Audio etc.).

I'm feeling really pi$$ed off by this!

### I post this in another thread, so there is no more help needed. Problem is solved. Sorry! ####
