Scellow
I found a little cable which can help us to make a special usb flash drive for the boot loader! Here is the cable : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Retail-wholesale-NEW-Internal-Motherboard-USB-4pin-4p-single-row-male-to-A-female-Extension-Cable/1439177112.html We could just dedicate a small usb flash drive (256mb) and install the boot loader on it! Then we hide it inside the pc ! Even if your HDD die you'll keep your boot loader for ever! No more problem ! EDIT: A smaller one, without cables : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Motherboard-20-Pin-Header-Female-to-Dual-USB-3-0-Type-A-Female-Connector-QbO/1229773302.html Edit 2: A better one! A Flash module! : http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_54152/merkmale.html
Slice
USB Flash Drive will die faster then HDD. In my local market there is no such cheap flash drive. The smallest one is 4Gb.
BiTRiP
Even if your HDD die you'll keep your boot loader for ever! No more problem ! What do you want to do with a boot loader without a working HDD? Just booting loader? Second, re-installing bootloader on new hdd is no work either. I don't see the advantages, sorry. jamiethemorris
Then just put a bunch of sticky goo on the flash drive and put a giant plastic case around it and tell people it's real efi. You could sell tons of them. Just kidding... I think this could be a neat idea though, except that it's going to detect it slower than an internal drive. I have a usb thing for my bluetooth though, so I wouldn't mind using something like this and keeping it inside the computer.

Scellow
Install Clover to EFI partition will be cheaper mischief. This trick could be used as a recovery boot loader, in case something is wrong with your hdd you'l still be able to boot to something else without carry about to install a boot loader again I just bought one, it fits my needs ! :
tle88
And with cheap 32 GB usb stick You can have boot loader AND full basic system in same stick. By using two sticks this method works even better. Boot one stick, and copy second stick to back and over the broken or messy disk. There is no reason to "hide" any boot loader inside pc. Think this things again. With outside sticks everything is much more easily. T -.-

alaskantraveler
I think I would prefer having my recovery disk on DVD. Almost every machine will boot from the DVD drive. Excepting some really old ones which won't run modern OS's anyway.

vbetts
I just have a small SSD that is pointed to boot first with my bootloader on it. Also, I've done this for a bluetooth receiver for a small a10 build.
Gringo Vermelho
I don't get it either....what's the advantage to this? The whole point of using a flash drive is that it's removable and portable...right? Hide it inside the case, and now it's neither. If you're going to do that you might as well install your boot loader to your hard drive - same difference!
vbetts
Low cost and low power boot loader option. It's not the most secure or protected because it's USB, and most USB thumb drives use cheap memory that will most likely fail within a year or so because of constant usage. What's the point in that though when you have to buy a new memory drive every year? Just save yourself the cost and buy a small ssd, or a cheap hard drive. 32gb adata sata III SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211717 $44.99 USD 320gb 2.5" Sata III HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W018K9344 $48.99 USD
