robertmdebodt
I have a laptop with an A6-3420M APU.The issue im having is actually booting Clover. I've used BootDiskUtility to create a Clover Bootable USB. The problem is that when I try to boot from the USB, I get a "7" in the top left corner of the screen and then the screen stays black. I've tried pressing other keys like 1,2,3 while its booting. I've tried booting UEFI [Pendrive] and just [Pendrive] in my bios(which i've updated to the latest version). All i'm getting is a black screen. I've even used different versions of Clover that say AMD Support. I extracted the PKG and put it on the flash drive. Still just get a "7" and then black screen. I can see that the resolution changes after it boots from the usb, though. Anybody ever have this happen? I can't find any information on it.Thanks,Robert. theconnactic
You know, AMD APUs + InsydeH2O locked BIOS is arguably the worst possible hardware combination to run OSX: even you do manage to boot, you'd never ever have graphics acceleration support unless you find a way to disable the integrated AMD graphics in the BIOS; then you realize you cannot do it because of the InsydeH2O BIOS... complicated. You must weight if it's worthy of the time invested, because even a success here means a crippled experience: no QE/CI meaning no games, no movies, no youtube, no iWork, no iMovie etc etc etc. All the best! theconnactic
P.S.: you should research the possibility of trading your laptop for one with Intel inside, preferentially with a 3-gen intel CPU with Intel HD4000 graphics (while it's possible to get the Intel HD2500 to work on 10.8.3+ with a desktop machine, i don't really know if someone has luck with a laptop an this particular graphics). Another option is to get a laptop with an older Arrendale 1st-gen i3 CPU, since they're cheap and it's now possible to enable their Intel HD - but even then some of them won't work, because of the type of display - some displays won't pass the edid correctly - so get one that's proven to work, such as the Inspiron n4050 2010 model with mobile i3 CPU and intel HD. Another inexpensive possibility is the netbook ASUS 1201n with nVidia ION graphics system (stay away from ION 2, which is not supported). The downside is the Atom CPU, which is pretty weak, but i can tell i even can run Logic Pro X on my 1201n and kinda enjoy the experience. Also, avoid any laptop with dual graphics or IntelHD + any nVidia/ATI card: they are not supported and never will be. http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K53TK/#specifications This is my laptop. I'm not really sure what InsydeH20 is. Won't work, won't even work, unless Apple starts using AMD APU graphics system on its own lappies, which will never happen. Read above, or do at your own risk if no graphics acceleration and resolution plus patched kernel (meaning FaceTime, iMessage won't ever work, and even iCloud will need workarounds) is acceptable for you. robertmdebodt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRjK63ZSHv4 This video has similar specs to mine. Maybe even the same. My laptop has an apu and a dedicated card as well. 7670m. You've been a big help so far. But I do like a challenge so i'm gonna keep trying.
