stefa
OK, this issue has been addressed quite many times already, but no real progress has happened and I figured that people sharing this problem could join forces to try and find a solution. Some said that perhaps this prob isn't quite high in priority, but atleast I would find it much more pleasant to be able to listen to music with both ears in real stereo, while trying to fight the other 'bugs'. I myself have very basic programming skills, so I guess I'm not much of a help in that if any programming is going to be needed. So what would need to be resolved is the 'left channel only' syndrome, and SPDIF output would be nice to have working also. Least priority would be on the multichannel audio (although I think that would enable us to switch output channels in the MIDI preferences and thus perhaps solve the problem). Please don't post any 'pull the plug out a little' posts, because it's not a real solution to the problem (resulting audio is not stereo, but dual mono or something). What I know already is that the Audio guide in the Knowledge Base doesn't apply for this and that my audio cards vendor ID and device ID are already in the AppleAC97AudioVIA.kext and it loads and works ok on the left channel only. Anyone up for the challenge? All ideas and experiences with similar hardware are welcome! My setup is: AMD Sempron 2800+ (SSE3 enabled) MSI K8T Neo (VT8237 controller and Realtek ALC655 codec) RealTek 8169 NIC on MoBo RealTek 8139 NIC on PCI 1,5GB RAM 2x160GB Samsung HHD (Parallel ATA) USB wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Okay, getting graphic card up and running is more important for me but it looks like everything is going to work for me, except the left mono audio channel. So I'm also looking for the mono sound solution for AppleAC97AudioVIA.kext. Regards Jordan
jordanvanbergen
So I'm also looking for the mono sound solution for AppleAC97AudioVIA.kext. Don't forget the following solution to have at least crackling free sound from the left channel! It works for me and this produces perfect sound but still mono of course: sudo -s cd Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.app/Contents/MacOS/ Execute Audio\ MIDI\ Setup In "Audio Devices" AC97 Selected the output for LINE OUT and choose format = 2ch-16bit And make sure to set it to 48Khz. instead of the "current" 44.1Khz. Now apply, done and now you will have crackling free sound from the left channel! DONE! Regards Jordan
stefa
"Don't forget the following solution to have at least crackling free sound from the left channel! Crystal clear mono sound! Ok, but thanks for joining the discussion. cheers -stefa
JaS
Hi everyone I thought I would tell you whats going on here with my via sound.I have installed Os X on a P4VXAD+ motherboard and it has the P4X333 Northbridge + VT8235 Southbridge The VT8235 AC' 97 gets the 44.1 Hz bug When installed but I can fix that with the midi setup. Here is the thing though. It runs in stereo since I installed.Maybe its a chipset thing?

Problem seems to be atleast mobos with VT82xx Southbridge combined with RealTek ALC 655 codec... cheers -stefa

I also tried to find info on what codec your mobo has, but no success. My guess is that the northbridge has no effect on whether the sound is mono or stereo. Probably the problen is only with some RealTek ALC-codecs combined with some VIA southbridges. BTW, my southbridge is VT8237 if that makes the difference. I just thoght to include other VT823x southbridges in the title, since they are under the same title in the HCL and are claimed to have this problem. So you have been a little bit luckier with this issue way... I wish I would have bought some different mobo Well, hopefully we will have this case cracked some day... cheers -stefa
sektor
Yes that would be nice, I have VIA AC97 audio and I get choppy left audio and in MIDI setup it says output not supported.
Escape311
Same issue here which is funny. I didn't even notice it for like a week, because I had my speakers sitting on the floor while I was in the procees of moving things around. They were still hooked up but just sitting on the floor. I just heard sound and thought all was well until I put them back on my desk. If anybody else knows what to do, I would be greatly appreciative as well. Severnya
Dont wanna be daft - cant we find some Linux'y stuff - and gander it!? I know my ac97 works alright in ALSA - and the OS X audio layers are openly documented. got to be a fix in there. Surely............
numberonekiwi
Just a thought How many users here have the ability to enable voice prompting when booting from BIOS ie "power on selftest complete computer now booting from operating system" if you do enable it for a test I am using a vt8237 chipset and the ad198xCodec ( had to rename a string from ADS72 to ADS70 ) On bios boot it also only outputs sound from the left channel and to those users who have sound working on both channels can you also try this and post results Maybe we need something else more complex in the kext file to get this thing operational
